I'm starting to hear more and more analysts either outright claiming or at least considering Josh Doctson to be the best WR in the class. While most on the board here have come to the conclusion that Treadwell would not be worth the pick at 10, I'm starting to think that Doctson might be...
Sure, we'd all rather trade down and take him later in a perfect world, but remember that a) you risk losing the player you like, b) you have to find someone willing to make you a worthwhile offer, and c) Jerry Reese has never traded down while he's been running the NYG drafts. For all those reasons, I don't see that happening.
The Giants do have a history of grabbing their guy, even if it's a little premature to the consensus rankings... Flowers, Pugh, and even Beckham were all rated lower than where the Giants grabbed them through most of the pre-draft period. Once the Giants interest became clear, Flowers and Beckham started moving up in those last few days, Pugh I think remained a surprise.
I'd also argue that adding a quality WR is important not only this season, but moving forward as well. Right now there's not even a young guy on the team that would look like a star in the making, unless you take an extremely optimistic view of G Davis. When Beckham's contract comes up, who knows what he's going to ask for? The Giants need to protect themselves and not end up in a position where Beckham has them held hostage in negotiations when that time comes.
So yeah, I'm really beginning to wonder if Doctson might be on their short list...
I don't think any WR is worthy of a top 15 pick.
Giants running the WCO and he is a perfect fit. He should be there in round 2
treadwell
Doctson
Coleman
Fuller
Thomas
boyd
shepard
i think we target one at 40, my guess is thomas boyd and shepard will all be there. would love thomas, i think he would be a good compliment to OBJ
I do think Caroo is a great value at 40. I think he is underrated in the class. 10 TDs in 8 games for an overall inept Rutgers offense is no small feat. He's smooth in his routes and has some of the best pair of hands in this class. 2nd round is great value but if he drops to the 3rd as some analysts believe I think it's a steal.
I'm not sure Carroo is that guy but he does have a combination of skills that I think he might be able to do it... he's a good leaper and he can get deep, with good 9 5/8" mitts. I think Thomas and Doctson are gone by 40, and I'm not sure we should burn that 2nd rounder on a WR anyway, because I think if we go defense in the first, we almost have to get a OT in the 2nd because by the time we're drafting in the third all the good ones will probably be gone. So Carroo is a guy I really like in the third, as well as Charone Peake, a guy Sy likes as well... those are my two third round targets.
A lot of people are talking up Devon Cajuste in that 4th-5th round range. He's big, had an insane 6.49 3-cone, big time leaper, combined with a 6'4" frame. He's definitely a guy you like on the outside in the redzone to go up and get it. Not sure he's the complete package though as a receiver, because I don't think he's going to beat a lot of corners deep... his movement on the football field belies his timed measuarables... he seems a little clunky/clutzy out there and I think that's why a lot of people see him more as a TE/H-back type. But he does enough things well that he could be a useful player.
A consolation prize in the 5th round range (which is where I'd be considering him at) is Keyarris Garrett from Tulsa. Tall (6'3"), long armed, hands a little smaller for his frame at 9", but he had almost 1600 yards last year and 8 scores. He absolutely worked over Zack Sanchez of Oklahoma pretty good, who will be playing on Sundays next year. The knock on him for me is he's not the sharpest route runner.
Another intriguing guy for me is Cody Core from Ole Miss, pretty overshadowed by Treadwell, but I think he'll have a better pro career than college. He's a 6th round consideration... along with Tajae Sharp from UMass, who I really like and may even consider a around earlier.
riiiggght....the Giants have a history of drafting stars in the 5th round...just like most teams do.
I'm guessing 3 or 4 WR's will come off the board in round 1. But I'm just a fan like everyone else. No one knows how the draft will unfold, which positions will cause teams to panic and go on a run for positional players, etc.
The good news is, is that at 40, we are going to get a dang good player. But it all depends on how the draft unfolds and who falls through the cracks and into our laps.
Treadwell is the most physical. Fuller has the most dangerous speed. Coleman is the best slot and change of direction guy. Doctson has the best hands/ball skills. I don't think they really stand out in comparison to each other. So you could make the argument they are all on the "list" at #10 if they are thinking WR.
In terms of waiting...thats what I think they should do but not by a landslide. I think NYG can get a guy like Charone Peake in round 3 or 4 and he could be their #2 by season's end. Sure, Docton and Treadwell would likely pay off quicker and higher initial dividends, but the gaping holes elsewhere still exist as well.
I think two guys are gonna potentially fall in tis draft in to NYG's lap. Hargreaves and/or Bosa. It would be hard to pass on them if you're asking me. And I still think they go Floyd.

I see a few WR in college that could be interesting late round picks just based on measurables. The Temple kid Anderson, Davis from California, Garrett from Tulsa, Core from Mississippi, or Mathews from BYU. Colleges have alot more passing today then decades ago. There are more receivers and more potential sleepers.
I don't like Stanley at all, I do like Conklin but not at 10 and not for a right tackle. Trade down once or twice and add a couple of picks, then grab your right tackle, free safety, and wide receiver. If they added enough extra picks you can grab 2 receivers in this draft, there are plenty of #2 types.
You can also add a guard if they add enough picks. If you can't get an impact player at 10 then trade down and add picks.

The Giants have been much better at evaluating WR talent. Nicks, Cruz (I know he wasn't a draft pick), Beckham, Randle (he wasn't a bad pick), Manningham, Steve Smith, etc. under Reese as opposed to Acorsi.
Cruz is a HOFer from the way fans talk about him on BBI.
I think we can find the equivalent in the late rounds if our resident genius doesn't reach for the bromleys of the world and show us how much smarter he is then the rest of the league
and also,
a high character guy - ( New Window )

This is a really strange argument. You seem to be saying that since we haven't drafted studs with our high picks, that they've just been average (conveniently forgetting Beckham) that we should just take guys in later rounds and be happy with average players?
You do know that last year's pro bowl wrs were
Julio Jones
AJ Green
DeAndre Hopkins
Allen Robinson
Jarvis Landry
Amari Cooper
TY Hilton
Odell Beckham
are there a lot of late round picks in that group?
AJ Green - 1st round
DeAndre Hopkins - 1st round
Allen Robinson - 2nd round (late in the 2nd, though)
Jarvis Landry - 2nd round (late in the 2nd, though)
Amari Cooper - 1st round
TY Hilton - 3rd round
Odell Beckham - 1st round
Brandon Marshall should've been a Pro Bowler and he was a 4th rounder.
I have looked into him and he has some things you like, but the book is bad hands. Athletic guy. I think he'll be a 7th rounder or be a UDFA. Certainly roster-able if the latter. But in the 6th round, there are too many other guys that have more polish, like Keyarris Garrett or Tajae Sharpe.
I hope there is great value in the later rounds of this draft relative to the early rounds as the WR group does not seem exceptional this year by all accounts. Some of the numbers height wise and speed wise seem intriguing. Maybe we will hit some value
There's a chance Shepard and Thomas are gone before 40 as well.
I expect a run on WR at the top of the 2nd.

I don't think the Giants wait on WR. They value the position highly. I'd be shocked if they dont take a WR in the first 3 rounds.
AJ Green - 1st round

Allen Robinson - 2nd round (late in the 2nd, though)

Thank you for doing that...(btw Marshall was I believe widely regarded as a first round talent, off the field issues pushed him far down...)
The idea of just grabbing a wr in rounds 2or3 isn't crazy, you can find some good players there, but it's no sure thing. From our recent experience, guys like Smith, Manningham, and Randle have been solid but unspectacular contributors. I think that's pretty much the ceiling if you wait past the first in most cases. Or, you can get Sinorice Moss, Jernigan, or Tim Carter.
Remember, the argument that a guy "is gonna be great, but isn't a good value at #10" is a weird one. If a player is great, nobody cares where he was drafted. If a player isn't, it was always a bad pick, no matter how late.

I like him a lot. A little raw but you can see NFL upside in him. You can easily make the argument he is a top 10 WR in this class
he fits the Bill ..
