I am curious on everyone's assessment of Collins. What can we expect from him? He definitely was thrown in a trial by fire situation. Was he worth trading up for? After a season of learning can he be our answer at safety? Can two pro bowl cornerbacks make up for his lack of coverage skills? He definitely proved he could play well assisting in the run game.
OK.
looks like he's going to be around an average player. His athletic limitations when it comes to change of speed and direction.
Free Safety with speed and can lay some wood .
He is not perfect but he can cover as well .
If we get a FS and allow him to play SS, he'll excel and will be a star in this league.

Sorry if German.
If it is true he's a piece of shit.

Bah, just found the archived thread. Still though.
He is a SS not a FS......as far as what his ceiling is, we may have seen it.....or, he was overwhelmed by being thrown into the fire, and maybe with a year under his belt, his confidence in himself returns, and he improves....
His coverage skills need a lot of improvement....whether he was worth two picks, remains to be seen...
Hoping that he isnt just another big/Vanilla S like Barron or Ha Ha...
Funny how the "Pro-Ready" Bama guys (dont) pan out in the NFL (Sans WR's).
Flashing danger signal that should have confirmed the significance of his coverage issues that had been apparent on the field.
The three-pick trade-up to get him underlines the point that the Giants' draft bureaucracy is not governed by a consistently analytic approach.

You realize that safeties have to play both spots in our defense? And besides Kam Chancellor, how many star pure SS types are there?
Will he ever live up to his draft status? Time will tell, I suppose. A stronger supporting cast can only help him (which you can say about a lot of players, I know).

Your lack of football knowledge continues to amaze me. Yet you continue to post on a football forum. I seriously wonder if you actually watch real games or just post in threads. I'm just going with the later myself.

Great post. 3 cone is something the Giants have traditionally valued, it's a head scratcher.
The fact that he is a piece of shit is icing on the cake.
Choked away the Patriots game, almost choked away the SanFran game because of his drop in the endzone.
With that being said.....
There was no true centerfielder that could let him play more in the box.
There was no pass rush what so ever.
Can't evaluate him right fairly right now, have to see how much of a jump he makes with a pass rush.
The way people talk about him you'd never think he racked up 112 tackles to go along with a pick and FF as a rookie with very little to work with as far as a supporting cast is concerned. Pair him with a decent coverage safety (yeah yeah, Spags system, interchangeable safeties, etc but they still need a safety who can provide consistent coverage) and he'll only continue to get better. I think he's going to be an above average player in the league.
If they match him up with a ball hawking true FS ....
I really hate that term "Safety" now-a-days. They have to get more specific like they are doing with other positions ..
Is he a DE ... or is he an edge rusher?
Why when we can have Leonard Floyd at a top 10 pick instead? Lmao
This board needs immediate pro bowlers or bust and doesn't believe in learning and getting better. Weird.
As far as Collins, the kid is going to be a very good player. was he our leading tackler?
Once his is moved to SS and we get a true centerfielder, he is going to make a lot of plays. him dropping the ball doesnt mean he isnt a playmaker. as big of a joke as it is MANY DBs drop the ball on easy INTs...it happens. You put collins around the LOS though, he is going to make a ton of plays between sacks and TFLs. He is a good tackler is quick around the corner and has very good instincts.
I LOVED the trade up for collins and I still do. he is going to be fun to watch...he was out of position all year long and still performed okay. not great not good enough for an early second rounder i agree but still serviceable. now he will be at his natural position...watch he is going to have a very good season

+1
Looking forward to seeing how he progresses.
You really can't make this stuff up.
Haha, he definitely hit his ceiling. There's just absolutely no way a rookie can improve.

who participated in the 3-cone drill at the 2015 combine, Collins was dead last. 41 out of 41. And it wasn't close. He was 7.38 and next slowest was 7.22.

Also agree. He pretty much played like advertised. Good going forward, but not backward. But I will say we need to remember that he was a rookie who had no help next to him, and zero pass rush in front. So it’s way too premature to offer a final assessment of what he can do. We need to wait until the end of this season at the earliest, and probably after 2017 as well.
stop a good college offense. It really was that bad and
some are focus on single players and rookies?
Collins has the tools to fill his role SS
But without a Rangy center-fielder and lack
of a Pass Rush exposes many a good player .

You won't improve if you're not quick enough to get in the right position to make a play. HaHa!

This place is unreal. Go back and check the draft threads from last year...You'll find Collins' and Odi's names all over the place.

I don't claim to have all the answers. But I dont think Collins will do much better than last year. His quickness is too much of an issue. Now please say something snarky back like I predict.
Is any of the above possible or am I just speaking out of my ass?
The lack of football knowledge on this site is hilarious.
All the bullshit posted on here makes me laugh, especially the people who think they actually know what they are talking about, yet they have no clue.
All you have to do is put on some tape and watch this kid play to know he's gna be a good one.
The fact that he landed awkwardly and the ball popped out at the end of the Patriots game does not mean he choked the game away.
That's like saying OBJ choked the game away because he had the ball knocked out at the last second in the endzone.
Wow,what a bunch of idiots!!
for real, just watch Collins fly around out there as a rookie and you know there's nothing to worry about.
He's going to be an excellent player, especially around the LOS and sideline to sideline.
His coverage will improve as well in his 2nd year, and so on.
He struggled at times in coverage but he also flashed with some really nice plays as well...
The same people who are talking shit about him now,are usually the 1st to suck players off and act like they knew they'd be good from the start!!
