I am curious on everyone's assessment of Collins. What can we expect from him? He definitely was thrown in a trial by fire situation. Was he worth trading up for? After a season of learning can he be our answer at safety? Can two pro bowl cornerbacks make up for his lack of coverage skills? He definitely proved he could play well assisting in the run game.
Can we please see what he can do when he is surrounded by better talent and not a rookie playing in one of the worst constructed defenses in this franchises history? Some people are so quick to run players out of town like Flowers, Odi, and Collins after their rookie year. You same people would have probably ragged on Michael Strahan too after his 1 sack rookie year. Give the kids a chance. Flowers and Collins were thrown into the fire in positions where they werent setup to succeed.
If efforts are focused on getting a rangy FS who can stay healthy, I'm pretty confident in Collins being able to play with less of a burden, and more loose. Going from the most talented defense in college to the least talented NFL defense is a huge huge shift.
What about drops from WR's? What about missed dunks in the NBA?
It was a freak play, happens all over the league by players both good and bad.
I'm looking forward to the Giants drafting s guy with range and coverage skills to go with him. Without that lets hope the pass rush is insane.

so is going from Saban to Spagnoulo

should we make necessary upgrades. He's already great in run support which we will need with Prince gone (probably his most consistent contribution when he wasn't injured).

That too, but to be fair, Spagnuolo was given a shit sandwich. I don't think he's an amazing DC or anything, but he didn't have a chance last year.

Not true. Spagnuolo doesn't eat bread.

had nothing to do with being a rookie. That was a gimme. 99% of NFL DB's catch that ball.
It wasn't a gimme, Collins jumped up and snagged the ball at the top of the jump and landed from several feet up in the air directly on his back, dislodging the ball and knocking the wind out of him.
The criticism on that play shouldn't be about dropping the ball - it should be that he didn't realize DRC was in position to pick it off without having to make a spectacular catch.
I'll take guys trying to make plays in key spots(even if they fail) over guys who aren't trying to make plays because more often than not, they will make them.
Collins is a very good tackler, and fans are going to be appreciative of his skill set of Reese takes Floyd.
Agree.
He is going to make a few pro bowls as well.
Quite a few plays behind the LOS. Not sure why everyone is so down on him.

He is going to be a baller for us once he strictly plays at SS. Link - ( New Window )

He dropped an INT, therefore, he is a bust.

Seriously. I don't get the hysteria. I thought he looked really strong attacking the LOS and playing the run.
ARRGH. ARRGH. ARRGH!!!!

Agree. Just leave him at SS at let him do his thing

I love the fact people blame him for the loss yet somehow forget Beckham dropped a TD that would have won us the game just a few plays earlier.
People have to realize that in the history of sports - there has never been a player who lost an entire game for a team.
LC can be a major asset if used properly in tandem with a ballhawking FS in 'centerfield'.
I think he's legitimately better than Antrel Rolle as far as reading and attacking at the line. When it comes to seeking and blowing up the run, he might be the best linebacker on the field.
It's not like he's CC Brown in coverage, either. I think he can certainly improve in that area just like Rolle did. He's been in position to make plays and just did not catch the ball.
from what i saw of collins last year, it was really ugly. i was embarrassed for him at times. he's got a long way to go, i can see a reduced role (dime CB) playing closer to the LOS. the good news is he did show talent at certain aspects of the game including special teams so he won't be a total bust either.
