NFT: NYR Early Offseason & Anti-East Conf Playoff Teams Thread

MetsAreBack : 4/26/2016 3:22 pm
Sick of looking at that game 5 thread and envisioning a happy hudson and Steelgiant jumping up and down for joy with their Crosby and "Kristopher Allen" Letang blow-up dolls.

Lets discuss early offseason news and our golf and summer plans here, but lets also see the hatred flowing as we root against ....well... everybody. The only worse EC final 4 i can think of would be to swap in Flyers or Devils for Tampa, and that's impossible under the new playoff format. And Tampa sucks too.

So fuck 'em all - I want to see pain, inept officiating as we saw in NYI/FL games 5 & 6, coaches challenges and long delays, 3 OT games with the home team losing, *lulz* quotes from kwhite2250 that the 'sky is falling' on NYI threads, and of course, a Western Conference Champion.

Whatever at this point.
SJ took too much time reacting..
Davisian : 5/31/2016 1:01 am : link
They're a much more structured team than the pens, but gave far too much space.

Maybe it's a function of the pens creating that space, but I thought SJ got away from their game tonight.

They better fucking figure it out.

The Sharks
pjcas18 : 5/31/2016 8:11 am : link
power play is fun to watch. If they can get the rest of the games called as tightly as last night they have a chance.

I thought there were soft calls both ways, but the sharks PK did a better job.

The Sharks need to force the Pens D better. without much pressure the Pens D continually turned the puck over, but the Pens played the Sharks similar to how they played WAS, ans they had their forwards down low.

It hurt when Burns (for example) had way too much time to get pucks on the net - and I haven't seen many better at getting pucks through traffic to the net than Burns, but the forwards being down low didn't let SJ get much quality sustained zone time through cycling or forecheck.

If SJ does a better job pressuring the Pens D they'll get better chances. Obvious? Maybe, but they didn't do it in game 1.

Former Whaler going home?

I love him, because Bruins fans hate him more than any other player of the past 30 years, but man he was a douche as a player.

Not blaming Ulf, really
bigbluehoya : 5/31/2016 10:30 am : link
But I guess I'm not unhappy to see some kind of shake-up considering the way the defense looked as a unit this season. I put it squarely on the players, but maybe a new voice lights a fire or changes a few things.

Either way, wishing Ulfie all the best.

My wife will miss seeing him behind the bench. She always comments how good looking she thinks he is.
Ulfie was the hardest guy to root for on the Rangers I can remember

bigbluehoya - hahaha! Me too! Between Lundqvist and Ulfie, at least I was allowed to watch games while she gawked at them.

As far as a replacement. Jeff Buekeboom is consistently lauded for his work in Hartford. I am not sure if they want to take him away from Gernander but Beuke might be a good promotion.

18. Theres a lot of smoke around the Rangers, too. Rick Nashs no-move is gone, but he does have some control, 12 teams he can be traded to.

It sounds like there is legit interest. Hes got a big ticket, and that makes it more difficult, but its not impossible. Remember hes got plenty of fans in the organization who know he was hurt last season.

If hes healthy, he makes a big difference. And, is he more valuable with one year remaining in his contract, not two? The Rangers also have centres. And, everyone is looking for centres. Theyre going to be interesting to watch.

Would need to be a hell of a haul. And not sure how many teams could or would take on $13-15m of cap hits (even if the expected production justifies it). If the Rangers were determined to move both Nash and one of Step/Brass, I think they'd maximize the return by doing / separate deals.

Brassard has got a sneaky good contract

5 million with term for a 60 point player.
Not to mention
bigbluehoya : 6/1/2016 2:32 pm : link
Brassard's contract was heavily front loaded cash-wise, so extremely attractive to the low budget teams as well.

Believe Step's deal was done same way.
well, that's just the point-such a deal might well get a helluva haul
Greg from LI : 6/1/2016 2:34 pm : link
I mean, I don't think the Rangers would deal a center just because. I'm not sure how much you get for Nash by himself. I don't think they should be aggressively trying to deal Step/Brass, but I do think it would behoove them to check the temperature for something like that.

Isn't Doan a free agent?

Do it.

I like Stepan/Brassard a lot. Trading one of them would be contingent on them getting back a good defenseman or being able to sign one with the new cap space (as well as other assets). I think Hayes can take the 2C role.
I should say

Brass for

Anisimov + Shaw would actually be great value (Hawks can't afford Shaw), but Rangers would need to parlay this with another deal to clear cap.

Brass puts up more points, but I think Arte has the better metrics.

Either way, it's to get a paisan for Buchenevich. Hard enough to make that transition without a countryman or two who's been through it. And went through it in the same city.

1. Watch the games, nerd.

2. Anisimov plays ~87% of his minutes with Kane and a third of his minutes with Keith while Brassard spends ~40% of his 5v5 time with Girardi or Staal (or both). Brassard had great possession numbers in 2014-2015 on a weak possession team. I think last year was the outlier in terms of possession stats for him.

3. See #1.

4. I'd be more interested in signing someone like Medvedev from the Flyers. Or, we can always re-sign Kovalev... Or Zherdev.

LV is a no-brainer. They have an arena, strong ownership and interest. I'd put Vegas in the Pacific division, then add Seattle to the Pacific once they're ready. Move Calgary and Edmonton to the Central division, and the league is finally balanced out.

I'd have to go back and look for the articles, but throughout this process I've seen a lot of material talking about how dedicated the potential franchise owners are to the city and by pushing the construction of the arena, compared to Seattle where it seems like the prospect of NBA/NHL expansion is a hot potato that no one wants to touch.

This series is starting to piss me off even more because its starting to remind me of 2014.

Except now the speedier team is getting the breaks while tje bigger, deeper team is hanging around but cant get the big goal.

The fucking yinzers might win a cup by playing the Rangers style of 2014..
