No it wouldn't. It might not be what you want, but it finishes the Oline for all intents and purposes. Eli is protected and they may very well be able to run on 3rd and two or 1st and goal from the 4...............
how can we pay flowers pugh richburg and conkline if all pan out? thats too much money and a poor allocation of resources in the oline not to mention conklin is far from gauranteed...im sorry but conklin is a bad pick at 10...i would move back even if you dont get HUGE value slide back a few spots and take lee or treadwell.
Finish the oline. Conklin has alot of issues. He is not the second coming. Flowers struggled last year, most rookie olineman struggle. Pick a impact player that can make plays. They have let the d go for to long.

You are the only one who sees these serious flaws in Conklin's game. Other people on the board argue whether selecting Conlin at 10 is the best use of our resources but Conklin is generally regarded as one of the safer bets in this draft.

I prefer pass rushers buy an OT makes sense. A solid RT will enable Eli to make more plays down the field.
Kiper and McShay have Conklin 4th and 7th on their final big boards, respectively. Haven't seen Kiper have this much of a hard on for a player as of late than Conklin - he's been talking him up for months now.
RE: This might be where the Titans trade up for Conklin.
Likes it when they see j.t. Thomas futily chasing t.e. and rb down the field again. Floyd looks like he is going to be gone anyway. I'd pick Hargreaves, Treadwell or Elliott before Conklin. Hargreaves also fills a big d need slot cb. Treadwell, slow and poor route runner but a good athlete. Elliot, I think will be gone. To bad Jack and Smith are hurt. Giants could have used both.
I felt the same way until I watched the Conklin's tape...the guy is an absolute beast with a nasty attitude...below is a highlight film of Deforest Buckner's Oregon team vs Conklin's Michigan State...the focus is on Buckner a top 5 pick that was completely neutralized...watch closely what happens on the first play...focus on #74 not Buckner...Hated Conklin until I watched fit myself Conklin Flashes in Bucker Michigan State Tape - ( New Window )
How the Dallas O-Line, three of whom were first round picks, humiliated the Giants last couple of years? Who wouldn't learn the lesson that you need such an O-Line?

You can't say any rookie does anything, but compared with Newhouse he is a huge upgrade. I expect Hart will take the RG.
He has a lot of issues? lack of experience in the NFL is one, so what else? He played LT in college could be one.
Every rookie has faults.

There would still be WILLs like Sua Cravens and Jones from LSU who they could take in the second and third.

wow you sold me. Conklin was a beast that game. 1 on 1 with Buckner most every play and he man handled him. I'd be fine with Conklin at #10.
hargreaves or a trade down to 15 or so and take treadwell or jack if he is falling in this mock.Anyone thinkiung were getting a 2nd rounder to trade back to 15 i got a bridge to sell you.early 3rd at best.

we have already spent 3 high picks on ol recently
After years of neglect, with Will Beatty the only exception...seven years ago.
Reese needs to have a solid draft top to bottom like 07. None of those picks were sexy at the time but most were core players or would've been core players but for injuries. Conklin would be a good start.
With a powerful RT, the Giants would be able to run the ball. What people are missing is that this is incredibly important- to the defense.
Too many times over the past several years, with the Giants simply unable to reliably run the ball, would have Eli drop back 3 times and have to punt- taking just moments off the clock and putting the defense back on the field tired and without a real break.'
A team that can grind out those hard yards can control the clock and give the defense the rest it needs to be fresh in the 4th quarter.
After the first several weeks of the season where the Giants lost several games late- I wondered whether they would have won most of those games if they could have RUN the ball and killed the clock earlier in the game or on their final offensive drive. Instead, a tired and worn out defense had nothing left at the end and lost the game.
That's a long way of saying that perhaps the best help the defense can get is a powerful RT who can help maintain long drives by getting those tough run yards. That allows the DBs to get a break and the pass rushers to stay fresh.

I see a tradeback--grab Treadwell and add
a 2nd round pick!!!
Any of those 4 would be better options at 15 than Conklin or Floyd would be at 10.

OT is a nice long term move post Eli ... Short term it means we are all about shootouts....

Said he was the most polarizing player in the draft. And that he had the best first step in the draft.
Not really.
