There is a strong chance, though, that the drought will end when the Giants make the 10th overall pick of the draft on Thursday night. Their top target, according to multiple sources, is Georgia linebacker Leonard Floyd. And that’s good. Because it’s about time they address a position that’s been ignored for far too long. A final decision was still being discussed on Wednesday night, and there was some support for taking Michigan State tackle Jack Conklin instead, but one source said that Giants GM Jerry Reese has been focused on the 6-6, 244-pound Floyd for months. At least some in the Giants had also been pondering a big leap of faith on UCLA linebacker Myles Jack, but a source last night told the Daily News the Giants “aren’t likely to take that risk.” |
Giants NFL draft plans: Three players to watch - ( New Window )
You could hate on the organization for the leaks or credit our beat writers for having the sources and breaking the news.
THEY created this situation. Reuben Randle's 14.0 average, 8 TD production wasn't good enough. I get it. But now what ?
Even if Victor Cruz comes back 100% to reclaim his slot position, that doesn't help fill the hole left by Randle.
Does this same standard apply to asshats? Serious question (or as serious as possible while using a term like "asshats")
2. You guys need to chill. These aren't state secrets and you literally have 0 idea whether this information is true or not.
We've been targeting floyd for a while now, and the fact that true whole fucking front office and coaching staff went to his proday proves it.

but holy shit, if they pass up Jack for Floyd, that is a fucking remote thrower right there...
the guy who publicly admitted he could need microfracture surgery down the line?
As an uninformed armchair fan analyst, I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this dude was the Offensive AND Defensive Pac-12 Rookie of the Year... That's a football player and someone who instinctively knows how to play the game. I'll shoot for greatness here (not that Floyd can't be great - contrary to most people on this board, I think his skillset is actually a great fit for the modern NFL and that his ceiling is absurdly high, but his relative lack of production is concerning).

Floyd is a weapon against the passing game in an increasingly pass heavy league.
He'll likely be taken off the field on obvious run downs, but finding a good run playing LBer is easier than a good pass coverage AND pass rushing LBer.
Also the Giants need another pass rusher to allow Vernon to move inside on passing downs.
Am still worried about his ability to get to a reasonable playing weight though.

And Floyd didn't end up doing anything at his pro day. He was 'sick'. So they didn't get to see anything. Which means it's a lock they pick him?
his combine weight was like 250...

That is what bothers me the most about him. What was the real reason for not showing is what begs to be asked
On Floyd, it seems to me like Ralph's enthusiasm is more for historical reasons; that we should take a lb because we haven't done it forever, rather than because of this particular player or urgency in team need. We can improve at lb, you can always improve. And I'm not saying that it's not even a weakness. Of course it's a weakness among many. But a starting WR is a canyon. Putting it another way, a lb gets us better but in terms of wins its incremental at best. A starting WR (even Ruben Randle quality WR), OTOH and considering the defensive improvements already made (and seemingly always ignored when we discuss the current team and the draft), is the difference between contending for divisional championship and trading down for a shitload of picks in next year's draft.
??? who is this man you are referring to? lol
cruz plays in the slot, we need another outside guy.
cruz will be there but you cannot count on him for substantial production. IMO you draft an OUTSIDE WR in round 2 and if cruz comes back its gravy
Agree - b/c he isnt getting fired either. Total conflict of interest there - but they can do wtf they want I guess.

But my ex-wife shot the wedding of a beat writer, at this event were several other beat writers. Several photos of said event were asked to be destroyed and not included on blog posts. There was a mysterious man there who was in each of the photos and who was seen in several shots with said writers. All were destroyed to protect the writers and this source. PHotos of the writers alone were not destroyed but this man was erased from the wedding. No I am not kidding.

Do you have a death wish? Jesus.
It's not if they have serious concerns about Jack's knee.
If Jack were 100% healthy he would never even be in the conversation to begin with because he'd be off the board well before we picked.
Cruz was better at slot. He was never as good on the outside. 3 WR set is becoming the base which means you need 3 starters.

What happens if Victor Cruz returns heathy this year? Now you've spent the 10th pick in the draft on a receiver who will hardly see the field and will be the third option on most routes (when we're not throwing swing passes to a back or passes to the tight end). How much have you improved your team? As fashionable as it is on this Board to say you can't count on Cruz; it's equally true that you can't count on him not being here.

and you did a great job too - that fellow has been weeded out
