whats he smoking? Tunsil is a very solid prospect many have him as the best in the draft. i dont see it, he is strong as hell and has gone up against some serious talent at ole miss.
to get real comfortable with the idea of Conklin at 10. Plug him in, finish the line, improve the run game, improve the passing game and find plenty of other value at 40 and beyond in a deep draft.
I agree Stanley is the better player but I wouldn't be surprised if San Fran or the Jints threw some money that scouts way to come out with this evaluation the day of the draft so Tunsil drops to the greaser.
The guy ended up playing 8 seasons starting over 100 games and retired when teams still wanted him as a starter. By the end of his career he was a good starting guard IMO. There are way better examples of draft busts or scouts conpletely whiffing on a player.

Or maybe that guy is serious about his profession and doesn't take kindly to non-professionals declaring themselves experts from the comforts of their home sipping on Diet Coke.

RE: The gallery draft bust statement always surprises me Â

Patrick - Gallery was picked #2 in the draft to be a Left Tackle -- he was given a monsterous contract - and never was able to hold that position --that's a bust
And Yet He's Been Touted as the Next Walter Jones Â

So then the picks that flamed out of the NFL before the end of their first contract? Or never received an inkling of an offer for a second contract? Super busts?
Gallery turned out to be a good NFL player. He wasn't Jamarcus Russel or a long list of complete jokes.
99 out of 100 rookie tackles struggle. So will he. So did Tyron Smith. He has all the tools and he will be really good. Wish we had a chance, because we dont.

There are guys that get paid to do it all day and guys who put in a lot of work for free because they have a passion for it. I don't know why he needs to be pejorative about it... it's not like these scouts don't miss ALL THE TIME. Most of us who do research do so on a much smaller pool of players than they do, it's a full time job to do 150 players or more in the draft, like Sy does.
They all miss, everyone does, there's no high horse for anyone to stand on.
Absolutely not. My point is Gallery is pretty middling for the second overall pick spent on an OT. He was labeled can't miss because he was big and athletic, he turned out to be an NFL starter for 8 seasons and was signed to start 1 more when he retired.
Jason Smith is a huge OT bust at #2. Luke Joeckel is already in danger of becoming a backup.
Every year we as fans seem to forget how short careers are, how awful some picks turn out to be, and how much of an absolute crap shoot the draft is.
A top 10, 5, or top pick should seem like a no-brainer and seem safe when in reality there are no safe picks at any draft spot.
Tunsil is a no brainer, to me Conklin is as well. Conklin is more of a no brainer to me because at worst IMO he turns out to be an average, mean ass guard. Likely 1 or more of Tunsil, Stanley, Decker, and Conklin completely flame out in 3-4 years.
in the first round, and he didn't even make the team. Ended up suiting up for three games in two seasons for the Lions, and that was his entire career.
Bust written all over him? He gave up 2 sacks in 3 years going against the best athletes in the country. In his last game he absolutely dominated Ogbah. Perfect characteristics for a left tackle. I would take my chances.
You don't spend a #2 overall on a guard. You could have gotten that Â
You're undervaluing the worth of a #2 overall pick to say that Gallery wasn't a thunderous disappointment. He was. He needed to be a difference maker for that franchise. It just didn't work out.
Guys bust all the time. It's okay to call a spade a spade. If Jamarcus Russell went on to be a 10 year vet quality backup QB it's still a bust.
"they’re not as high on him as these clowns on their computers in their basements who maybe watched one game on YouTube and think they know the answers,’’

You people are those clowns.
I don't think Dan Shonka has any right calling people clowns. He sounds bitter he's not the guy on national TV. Instead he's left sitting on his couch like the rest of us watching clips of games. Only difference is he runs a website no one seriously pays much attention to.
Tunsil faced some of the best competition and still only gave up 2 sacks in almost 30 games. #1 recruit at OT coming out of HS and now considered by many the #1 prospect at OT in the draft. In short, I think that says a lot about Tunsil.

This. I’d love to get Tunsil. Not sure why anyone wouldn’t.
I'm not an ol expert, but in watching videos of him, I don't get the Â
harsh criticism. I don't know enough to compare him to Stanley, but they both look good to me. I wouldn't trade up for either one, but I'd be happy with either at 10.
“He’s the one everybody — I shouldn’t say everybody — you talk to people in the league, they’re not as high on him as these clowns on their computers in their basements who maybe watched one game on YouTube and think they know the answers,’’ Dan Shonka, general manager and national scout for Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services, told The Post.
“He can’t block people crossing his face, he’s technique-poor. Here’s how stupid people are. They say, ‘He had a great workout at the combine.’ Well, he didn’t do anything at the combine but on the field drills. He was fresh. All the other guys went through real rigorous, the 40s, the vertical, the long jump, they did all that, everything, and he didn’t do crap and some of these clowns out there say, ‘Well, he had a great workout.’ Well, all those other guys would have had great workouts too if they weren’t so tired.’’
Thanks for bestowing your timeless wisdom upon the underlings oh great one.
What an asshole. If that really is a scout he should be reminded that the reason why he has a job is due to all those stupid clowns watching youtube.
They were all wrong about Gallery

That's a bad, bad review of Tunsil. Real bad. Could all the other Draftniks be wrong?

That is true. Although Gallery is certainly not awful... he didn't live up to the hype.
