Semi-asshat info: Giants "obsessed" with Apple

Vin_Cuccs : 4/28/2016 10:57 pm
This might be a day late and a buck short, but I'll post it anyway. If it's not received well, I will gladly delete it.

I know many are unhappy, but think of it this way:

The fact is that they did actually have Apple rated higher than Hargreaves due to size and consistency. They really liked him throughout the draft process

I talked to my guy after the pick was made, and his response was that the Giants were "obsessed" with his measurables and tape.

He did admit that they liked Conklin and Floyd, but Apple was not as risky and filled a need. He said Floyd not being able to keep on weight was an "issue"

He basically said, what Reese said in his press conference: they had a lot of concerns about Tunsil and his off-the-field issues, Jack and his knee issues, and Hargreaves with his size and style of play.

He also said that several teams were interested in trading up for Apple, as high as 12. If the Giants didn't take him, he would have been selected shortly thereafter.

So after Floyd, Buckner and Conklin were selected, the choice was easy.

No one knows what his pro career will be like, but realistically, he is the best option.

He did not tell me if Apple would have been the pic of Floyd was still on the board, because I'm guessing he didn't know. He also did not know what the cost was to trade up or the price to trade down.
great info

thanks
I don't doubt it

Don't like the pick but don't doubt it. The Giants like long corners and Apple fits the bill much more than Hargreaves. They also like young players with their best football ahead of them. I still don't like the pick, but not my choice.
Do not delete.

Why would you delete it?

Fuck that.
I like the pick quite a bit

What you say makes a lot of sense. But please ask your friend what he sees for round number 2!

Thanks for sharing, Vin

.
Sounds like the Jets were interested in moving up to get him in

the mid teens.

Man, the Hargreaves was misdirection for many if no Floyd was available.
one of these days

they might learn to trash their obsession with meeting various metrics and go back to drafting football players.

Probably not any time soon though.

Interesting, and exactly the type of posts that makes BBI what it is.
Here's the issue withy guy:
Vin_Cuccs : 4/28/2016 11:02 pm : link
He usually doesn't let me know anything until after the fact. And he's pretty hard to get ahold of.

Since he's only a small-time agent, I don't think he gets a lot of true, breaking inside information.

Yes, Reese is obsessed with measurables and potential.
Yes,
AcidTest : 4/28/2016 11:04 pm : link
great information.

But that just proves this was a classic Reese pick, where he assigns the greatest value to “upside,” “athleticism,” and “measurables.” Apple can play, but he needs a lot of technique work. The fact that other teams would have taken him at #12 doesn’t matter. The Bengals took Jackson at #24. We could have had him or Burns and a bunch of extra picks.
So Eric was right about the DRC stuff huh?
Mason : 4/28/2016 11:04 pm : link
I hope we work something out with him that rework his contract.

If the the Giants can land Karl Joseph that could be a hell of a backfield to go with a nice front four.

Still need a WLB.
A lot of people on here had Apple as the number 1 CB
DonQuixote : 4/28/2016 11:04 pm : link
When I read Sy's write up, I was like, so we should prefer Apple. People might fault the Giants for leaking info about Floyd, but Floyd at least is not a BBI favorite to say the least.

Anyway, I wanted Coleman, so whatever. I think Apple is a smart pick.

Raiders reached for Joseph
If Conklin was our guy
averagejoe : 4/28/2016 11:06 pm : link
and I think he was - it was JR's job to get him. Instead he just sat there. NO scouts believe Apple is ready to step in and start. You can't take a CB at ten that is raw and needs work. In a win now league who gives a shit if he develops in year three? He will leave as a FA anyway.

A first round top ten blunder.
I'm feel pretty confident
Johnny5 : 4/28/2016 11:06 pm : link
That the Giants had Apple rated ahead of Floyd on their board. Just a feeling.

Damn. Joseph is worthy of a 1st round pick IMO.

Joseph already went. And Reese is probably content with J.T. Thomas, since LBs don't matter.

The fact that they had Apple ranked higher than Hargreaves doesn't exactly make me feel any better, though. Oh well. Not a big deal. There's a reason my passion for this team, for the first time in my 33 years of life, has taken a major hit recently. Just hope for the best. I do feel bad for Eli as a person, though. By all accounts, he seems like a great guy, which is something that seems to be getting more and more rare (not sure that's the right word/word I want to use, but you get the point) these last few years. Meh. I will lower my expectations for this team (not the first time these last few years) and hope for the best. The days of me over-reacting to this team, especially with the current FO still intact, are long gone. It's just a football team.
I seem to remember that McAdoo stresses
Jay in Toronto : 4/28/2016 11:09 pm : link
the teaching aspect of coaching, so perhaps he sees Apple as a worthwhile challenge in that respect. It would appear that most of what he is missing (technique) is teachable.

Yes. The "it's just a football team" just screams "I need a tissue." What a shock! drken approves of a Giants move!

Let the record show you started it this time, doucher. :)

Get some sleep Dave. If we won all the time it wouldn't be a game. The Giants are a great team to root for, speaking as someone who has been through the pre-86 dark ages.
It's easy to spot who the short sighted guys are

Looking at it as just a football team seems like the smarter outlook than anything I've read on here tonight, both on the positive and negative side. If it's worthy of a response like the one you posted, I'm good with that. Have fun being passionate about this team and front office this year.
