Watch this video of Eli Apple

and tell me if he looks worthy of the #10 pick.
What do his supporters see? - ( New Window )
he can run step-for-step

no one got behind him one-on-one. great feet
We never actually do this

but in a year if we could bump these threads, I'd like it very much. I expect he'll be a fine player for this team. He flew heavily under the radar.
I will say it again

He looks like Corey Webster to me. He will most likely be an above average starter in time.
He is a pass interference machine
PA Giant Fan : 4/28/2016 11:21 pm : link
It's bad. Maybe he will be great. Maybe its technique and he will be great. That video is not an endorsement in my eyes
Clearly...

...the Giants are out of their league. They should just allow the computer to pick like in FFball.
He is 21
mdthedream : 4/28/2016 11:25 pm : link
very young and talented.
It's a reach
averagejoe : 4/28/2016 11:26 pm : link
He is raw and way too handsy. He is not ready to start. Good athletes that lack technique fail all the time,

A downgrade from Amukamura at ten. Terrific.
He's actually..

20. It is funny that most mocks I saw had Apple going to the Steelers at 25 saying he was a solid pick.

I see a lot of Terrell Thomas and Webster in him. I'll take that in a 1st rounder.
I agree...
Brown_Hornet : 4/28/2016 11:28 pm : link
...with averagejoe, I think it's a terrific pick.
The defense just got better!
Ok, I am about a third of the way through.
DonQuixote : 4/28/2016 11:29 pm : link
He seems bigger and stronger than his opponents. I have not seen anyone get by him yet. He is probably too f he doesn't realize how good a position he's in some cases. You asked ...
He's a better tackler than

Leonard Floyd.
Edit
DonQuixote : 4/28/2016 11:30 pm : link
He is probably too physical when he doesn't realize how good of a position he is in...
That's a very disappointing video ....
Manny in CA : 4/28/2016 11:33 pm : link
The NFL is all about empowering receivers to make big plays. Corners are a "necessary nuisance" (that's why the 5 yard rule is so strictly enforced).

MAYBE Apple can be taught to keep his hands off receivers, else he'll be giving up a lot of interference calls in the pros.
He is 20

and covering third WR in first year he will be fine.

It is funny you say that. I said the same thing about both Prince and Eli Apple. They both feel or felt like Steeler picks and someone that goes on to be a solid pro. That said, this tape reinforces what Mayock was saying which was he saw some inconsistency in the tape.
Lets hope he is never asked to cover

Actually, a lot of WRs get behind him. He did a good job in college of catching up. I don't think he will be able to catch up as often in the NFL.

Most years, I'll take that as well. But, when you've had the last few years the Giants have had, you have a top 10 pick, and you have a few immediate needs and you walk away with an OK player who just about everyone had going toward the end of the round, you didn't do your job.

Well we dont know what kind of player he will be. And where everyone else had him ranked means nothing if he turns into a very good player. I remember similar sentiments being expressed about Travis Frederick. A good player who was a reach and he may have been one of the steals of that draft.

Apple could be our version. We wont know for another year or two, but plenty of players exceed draft expectations and plenty fall short. If he turns into a very good corner, his draft value is meaningless. The only thing that matters is getting a good player.

1) He did not say before the draft. He could well have been the top CB when Pick #10 came around

2) Jalen Ramsey was not expected to fall out of Top 4, even Tunsil there were mocks with him in 6-8 range. What I am getting at is he was probably not on the main board. Every team has a few guys who they know won't be around under any circumstance but still keep separate for that one in a billion chance or to aid the pro scouts when they become UFA.

3) Although VH3 was my #2 CB, I could see how a team who thought highly of Apple's upside would rank him behind only Ramsey at CB
He will need a lot of coaching

Holding won't cut it in the NFL.
reminds me of a slightly larger Will Allen

I like the pick after watching that film

Most of the mistakes were over aggressive errors. 12 from Penn State gave him some trouble though. He was not blown away by anybody.
He played at the edge of the rules of the college game
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 4/29/2016 6:48 am : link
He will have to adjust to the pro rules. So what? He's hardly the only one.
The way the draft unfolded..
FatMan in Charlotte : 4/29/2016 8:07 am : link
didn't do us any favors (even if I'm glad Floyd was gone). I think the Floyd pick left us scrambling and when we couldn't find a trade down partner, we went with the player on the board we had targeted at an area of need who didn't have red flags. I like Apple better than Hargreaves.

Here's the thing - even if we overdrafted him, he wasn't going to be there in the 2nd round, so I don't see the hand wringing. We had a #10 pick in a draft without 10 Blue chippers. It happens. Because it is a flat draft, I could see positions 7-25 pretty much being interchangeable.
