ross he had never played slot CB in his life but spags saw the requisite skillset he was looking for. big, fast, aggressive, physical. also played t2 there are a rookie.
he's the #10 pick - he'll be the nickel CB by default.

Ross vs Austin in the 2011 game where he got burned on like 3 consecutive plays out of the slot.

Yeah, if Romo didn't overthrow him, Giants wouldn't have made the playoffs.
He's the next Richard Sherman - Tall, fast, physical corner that cannot be outrun or out-jumped.
Sherman is 6'3" (4.56 forty), 194; Apple 6'1", 190 (4.40 forty)
No, he's not going to be playing against the slot - that requires smaller, quicker defenders that can turn on a dime.
I'm guessing when Tunsil screwed us out of Conklin, Spags said "OK, I want Floyd". When the Bears leap-frogged us, Spags said "All right then, I want the Richard Sherman look-alike."
should be awesome in the slot as a shorter, quicker, shiftier guy that a QB might lose track of until he jumps seemingly out of nowhere to pick off a pass and take it the other way for six.
not easy to find but apple fits the mold.
that said, i hate this pick

Sounds like Apple needs to work on his footwork and hand technique on the outside before he learns how to play the slot.
Also, I'd be surprised if we made Jenkins the highest paid CB in the league (at the time) to play inside. Just seems like a weird situation.

he's in the same mold as Aaron Ross and T2. spags likes a big physical slot CB he can blitz. and play man on slot WRs

Yes. They all fell far from the tree.
