Sy's Grades in one chart

CT Charlie : 4/29/2016 12:40 am
I made a chart to see how Sy's top-graded players stacked up so far. One thing that jumps out is that Sy graded Eli Apple near the very top of all players in the draft. The chart shows only players with grades of 80 and above, and I apologize for any errors.

The first number is Sy's grade. The last number is where they were drafted.

several players close together with the same grade..

one of them is Eli Apple...
I guess the next thing we could do....
TyFromQueens : 4/29/2016 12:45 am : link
Is compare his previous draft grades to the production of the players.

Looking at this chart....damn he's good! look at the grade he has for Tunsil. Look where he went. Very interesting stuff.
Good post

Not sure why people are up in arms over Apple, he was definitely someone that fits the profile for what we look for. The more stuff I'm reading about Tunsil helps me accept that there was too much risk to take him.

on this basis, Giants did as well @ 10 as the 'Boys did @ 4.
Yeah Eli Apple
Torn Tendon : 4/29/2016 12:50 am : link
fits in his top 10. Sure he had a CB 1 point higher, but one point is going to be close and within the margin of error.
Really starting

To come around on the Apple pick after being lukewarm about it. I think most people here are just shocked because after Floyd and Conklin were gone - whoever we took there was going to be a guy that wasn't really talked about, except for maybe Hargreaves. So the obvious "what the hell??" Reaction ensues.

He kills in interviews and seems to be a smart, great kid. Looked great at the combine as well, if that means anything.

Hey Sy

Great work Very impressive.
They should have drafted the guy with the bum knee!!!
blueblood : 4/29/2016 12:54 am : link
even though we just got rid of a LB with a bum knee.. yeah that the plan.. replaced the older guy with the bad knee with the younger guy with the bad knee..

BTW did anyone in round one take the guy with the bad knee??

Nope.... oh...
Jack, Spriggs, Bell and Sheppard
Mason : 4/29/2016 12:56 am : link
Something tells me 3 of those guys come right off the board tonight.
Good job Charlie in putting

this chart together. Apple and Hargreaves virtually have the same grade and went 10th and 11th respectively. Based on Apple's grade and position, I can see why he would be the highest graded player on the Giants chart given who was available when they picked. That being the case, fans shouldn't be upset with the pick. I would say Sy did good work.
Myles Jack is this year's

Owamagbe Odighizuwa for Sy only difference is everyone got played. The teams have medical access no one else has. Hope they deem him worthy of pick 40.
I think Jack will be gone. Maybe the Pats
CT Charlie : 4/29/2016 1:30 am : link
will reverse course and trade up with some of their 11 picks. If they got 2 years out of Jack on a rookie contract, they might be happy. Who knows?

Umm... Margin of error?? This is a normal distribution of a sample of what??
Hmm Pat

Clearly Sy belongs in the Front Office

And CT you should be his agent ;)

the points are on talent seeing the kid is 20 years old I would say in the end he will be the better player. He is also a lot better athlete.

That's the case for every system and every player. I keep thinking back the The year Revis got chosen. OBJ was no ones top rated WR. Watkins was. Now Apple could be are Revis or he could be Ross. Who knows. The hand wringing on what a reach this kid is a bit much. Especially given The Giants penchant for picking DBs early. They've grabbed FAs but
When did Sy do these grades?
5BowlsSoon : 4/29/2016 6:44 am : link
Before or after the draft?
Is this the therapy thread to make us feel better?
RDJR : 4/29/2016 7:01 am : link
I do feel a bit better this morning then I did last night. I just thought we would be in line to get a true play maker at 10. Draft didn't fall that way, so we get our third corner which is a necessity. I'm a fan now. Go Eli Apple!!

Before. Last few weeks. Pretty simple. Apple is instant!y the biggest CB on the team. Hargreaves can not replace DRC in a yeast or two schematically. I'm one of the biggest Reese critics on this site and to me it was a solid pick looking at talent and need. This year and in a few.
Good Job!

This is a great look at Sy's grades and how these guys were drafted.

Let's all hope that Sy'56 did a really good job rating players this year;)
thanks Charlie

ALL the info. Really great insight and breakdown without getting to technical for idiots like me.

It was funny but I felt like the Giants were going to go DE or CB in the first round and when I read Sy's take on Apple I thought, ok, I like this guy. After having a great undersized talent in Prince, it would be great to get a bigger CB who can cover the bigger WR's in the league now. And by the way I couldn't have been more wrong or happier if they were able to get Conklin or Floyd (I'm in the linebacker happy camp).
fits what the Giants look for in round 1
djm : 4/29/2016 11:00 am : link
CB was a somewhat boring pick but a necessary one. We now have a lot of talent back there most of it young, prime and ready to go.

Tells me Oline and WR

Giants fucked up.
Well it sure makes Chicago look...
Johnny5 : 4/29/2016 12:50 pm : link
...Stupid. LOL

If we "reached" for Apple, then what do you call what they did to take Floyd??

The mayhem on here last night after Apple was the pick (minus a few logical voices) was pretty funny. And sad.
Thanks Charlie, this is helpful.
Section331 : 4/29/2016 1:00 pm : link
Say does an awesome job, but these rankings are an in exact science. That said, I've always felt that Apple fit the NYG profile for DBs far better than Hargreaves did. If he falls on his face, we won't have Reese to kick around any more, but I think he'll be a good fit.

There are still some good players left on the board, so this could be a good draft.
12 guys left on the list
WideRight : 4/29/2016 3:12 pm : link
Removing Jack and the DBs (can't see how we would take another), leaves 7 well-graded choices. Fortunately for us 5 on offense and two on defense.

Offense

Hunter Henry TE
Sterling Sheppard WR
Jason Spriggs OT
Charone Peake WR
Kenneth Dixon RB

Defense

Jarren Reed DT
Jonathan Bullard DT

Since we pick 9th there is no assurance we can get one of these, but with the unpredicability increasing in round two, I think the chances are very good.
