This could be the pick that gets someone fired

The_Taxman : 4/29/2016 1:53 am
Not just because a top 10 pick needs to start and contribute from day one but because this was a panic move caused by constant leaks in the front office. As early as 2 weeks ago, I was told by a relative who works in the scouting department for the Patriots that we were targeting Conklin at 10 and Fackrell in the 2nd with Floyd as a fallback option if Conklin was gone. If he knew that then every team in the league did as well. Then you have Tennessee and Chicago trade up ahead of us to draft Conklin and Floyd. This wasn't just happenstance. These were 2 teams that knew we wanted Conklin and then Floyd. To me, this is a fireable offense. If Apple doesn't turn out to be a very good starting CB, then the whole front office will have egg on their face for not only reaching but also losing out on 2 players they really wanted and who would've filled 2 major holes for the next 10 years. I'm very curious to see if a team interested in Fackrell behind us in the 2nd trades up ahead of us and picks him. If that happens, then this team really needs to do something about leaks in the front office. Again, this is beyond embarrassing. At this point, I think they need to address the o-line and hope that Spriggs is the pick if he's there at 40.
How does Reese

Fill two holes for the next ten years with Floyd and Conklin...if we only had one first round pick..
Two teams traded up because they knew we were interested...

in two players with only one pick?

Holy crap.

What he brings: Any trepidation I had about his high ranking in my Top 50 went out the window after after the combine. With long arms and good feed, this guy looks the part more than any other CB in this draft class. He’s raw though. He tends to get sloppy with his technique. His hips, feet, change of direction are all next level though. He can play press and bail coverage and he runs and mirrors receivers without much effort. His instincts are great too He anticipates route combinations extremely well.

So now it's the so called leaks that made us lose out on players that were DRAFTED AHEAD OF OUR PICK!!!

Reese and Co did what they were supposed to do. Stuck to their board.

It wasn't about leaks. It was all about those teams doing what needed to do to get their player. Obviously The Giants saw more value in staying put at their pick.

Obviously I meant either Floyd or Conklin would've been 2 players that would've filled more pressing needs at positions we are lacking for the next 10 years. If you think CB was a more pressing need than RT or LB on this team, you probably haven't been paying attention. Also, if you think we would've taken Apple if Conklin and Floyd were at 10, then you are high.

This a panic move is so incredibly wrong. The fact that they picked Apple at 10 with so many others having him ranked lower is practically proof they stuck to their draft board. They are high on Apple and selected him because he was #1 on their board without character or injury concerns, not because Reese panicked. Criticize the pick all you want, just please stop with the panic nonsense.
guys, this thread is about leaks

our top two targets weren't just drafted, but traded up for. i completely agree. and im fine with the apple pick, but this is second-rate business.
possibly..

We shall see. This pick better pan out for Reese's sake. I'm still in Awe of passing on Tunsil, Hargreaves, and Rankins?? wtf. smh..
was surprised
msh : 4/29/2016 3:49 am : link
they chose apple when hargreaves was still on the board but he is taller and faster than hargreaves he has to learn to play smart those penalties cant happen at nfl level this was need pick and a good pick overall they need a RT so round 2 is ok this guy wouldnt have made it to thier pick in round 2

they must go RT in the next round thou spriggs hopefully if he last to thier pick, people questioned the logic of taking an OT but yet again teams traded up to pick them in the top 10 where tunsil would have been had the video not appeared at the wrong time

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He doesn't have long arms. That's one of his negatives.

post. I agree that there is a real problem with leaks. Other teams seem much better at keeping their decisions secret.

Thanks Acid. I dont love or hate Apple at 10. Its a blah pick we were forced to make because of this front office and it's amateurish leak problems. Missing out on 2 players you want because of it is really bad. A ton of apologists on this board. I'm shocked more people aren't up in arms about this.
Apple was a 1st round fixture in this Draft
Torrag : 4/29/2016 12:00 pm : link
Very little chance he 'busts' and isn't a productive asset, that doesn't scream 'fire everyone' to me. Solid pick with some upside.
I love these theories
Patrick77 : 4/29/2016 12:04 pm : link
The Giants had huge leaks...
Everyone knew who the Giants loved...
The Giants had opposing GMs trade away earlier picks to other teams to get these players before the Giants...
The Giants weren't involved in trade up discussion because they and other GMs are supremely incompetent...
The Giants were shocked that they were passed over...
The Giants didn't attempt to trade down or were incompetent again...
The Giants freaked out and overdrafted a player...

A lot of holes in this theory. Maybe. Just maybe. The Giants valued guys like Apple + a draft pick above Conklin and Floyd. Crazy I know.
