Dave Te Thomas' "Inside the Numbers" Series on the corners

David in LA : 4/29/2016 6:10 am
The link dated for 2/26 has glowing remarks on Ramsey. It's worth the read and might make some of you feel much better about the newest NY Giant. I won't quote any of it as a courtesy to Dave and his hard work, but I encourage you guys to read it. This was before the pro day, but there is an updated chart available. If I'm not mistaken, there is a final ranking coming as well.

This analysis seems a bit of an outlier. But it is incredibly detailed.

I sure hope he right.

Hopefully Apple becomes a star...the meltdown on here last night was predictable but somewhat justified...but the more I read up on this kid the more I think they may have nailed the pick...
Extremely detailed review, and

by his rating system #1 Apple and #2 Ramsey are the only 2 CB's this year with the potential to be franchise players.

DTT could be brilliant or way off-base, but he thinks Apple is outstanding.
The post pro day chart has Apple graded lower than Ramsey

Ramsey moved up significantly, and Apple graded just a hair under the "franchise player" designation on DTT's most recent chart. Still #2 corner that is just under "franchise" and at the very top of "star quality" is pretty good!
I love this part

Range and Recovery Skills…This is where Apple excels. When he does lose relationship with receivers on deep routes, he has confidence in his speed to catch up when his opponent gets behind him. He shows an above average trail technique and can cover ground quickly. His stop and go quickness is above average. His speed lets him cover up for mistakes, as his 4.52 timing on grass is the same when wearing his pads.

I was devastated last night but if that scouting report is even semi accurate, then they got a stud.
He certainly is a fan of Apple's

But it's hard to take him seriously when he doesn't even mention Eli's excessive grabbing of the receivers jersey that we have all seen. I'm hoping that this can be coached out of him but it's alarming.
so the Steelers thought he was in play for the 25th pick

and the Giants draft him at 10.

Raiders were in on him. You saw a corner go right after our pick. There's also chatter that Apple would have been the pick for Miami.
reaction justified?

Not really for most because they based it on draft site rankings and no real expertise. Two of the most knowledgeable draft posters were okay with the pick. I was hoping for Conklin but the Titans cut in line ahead of us.

Physical and excellent press skills.

How about the completion % in passes in his area? 20.9%? Nice!
