NFT: Mets talk 4/29 Bring on the Giants!

ZGiants98 : 4/29/2016 8:29 am
Mets have won 6 straight.

Conforto getting praise all around the league.

Is he a young Barry Bonds, without as much power? a talent evaluator asked after studying Conforto. But he might show more power as time goes on.

Wright saying he got out of sorts by relying on a subtle leg kick. Working on adjustment.

Jake Peavy takes on Steven Matz at Citi tonight!

Enjoy Debo. Should be a fun weekend.
Giants have a legit lineup
ZGiants98 : 4/29/2016 8:42 am : link
Not sold on their pitching but their lineup should be a nice test for our staff. Bumgarner VS Syndergaard should be particularly good Sunday.

But Nimmo busted out last night. 3-3 with a double finally hitting at the top of the order. Gilmartin was fantastic and is pitching very well in Vegas.

I know I come here and intervene on some NL east talk and joke around from time to time. But I think people are really underestimating whats going on in Philly right now. They are a lot better than people think. Just a bunch of young guys who play hard. Their OF defense ranks up there with any team in baseball. Herrera, Burjous, and Lough are really fast and really good out there. Their only weak defender is Howard.

Offensively, they struggle at times, but they really do battle. Herrera has turned into a OBP machine. Franco wiull become a stud if he learns he doesnt have to hit a ball 500 feet every time. The rest of the team is fair at best, but usually one or two guys come through a game. Yesterday it was Rupp, the othr day it was Burjous, or Galvis.

Plus, Williams will be up playing LF soon. Knapp should be taking over at 1B as well. And of course their best prospect, Crawford, will be up either late this year or next year.

I dont expect them to win anything this year, but I made a predicition that they will be closer to .500 than people think and I am sticking with it.

Oh come on did you honestly expect the guy to hit .430 all season?

Of course it would drop at some point but he is still 3rd in the league at .370. Not exactly worthy of mocking.

The point is his BABIP is so high he isn't likely to be leading anything before long. I fully expect him to regress back to the mean. Also, he only has 2 HR so I guess so much for the unlocked power.
Look I don't want to shit on Murphy.
ZGiants98 : 4/29/2016 11:10 am : link
I'm happy he had a hot start. I believe it's coming to a close though.
Murphy
steve in ky : 4/29/2016 11:14 am : link
Was a homegrown guy, a great teammate while he was here who always played his hardest and even during all the playoff and WS heroics and the attention it drew he continued to always point to his teammates instead of himself.

He wanted dearly to remain a NY Met and was left no option but to sign elsewhere and then proceeded to get off to the hottest start in all the league but now has cooled off which everyone knew would happen at some point.

I guess I don't understand the need to try and tear the guy down at the first opportunity.
Well for one...
ZGiants98 : 4/29/2016 11:20 am : link
He plays for the Washington Nationals who happen to be our main competition and who are also in first place at the moment. I'm really not in love with the Nats lineup. They have Harper and then whose their second best hitter? Murphy?? Murphy was our 7th best hitter heading into the postseason last year. A lot is riding on how Murphy does for the Nats. It's slightly important.

The rest I agree with though. I have no ill will towards him. I do find it humorous how many Mets fans were ready to jump off a ledge after the week of the season though (not necessarily here).
Amed Rosario #1 on BA Hot Sheet
pjcas18 : 4/29/2016 2:24 pm : link
Quote:
1. Amed Rosario, ss, Mets

Team: high Class A St. Lucie (Florida State)
Age: 20
Why Hes Here: .375/.407/.750 (9-for-24), 2 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 12 RBIs, 1 BB, 5 SO

The Scoop: Rosario is a talented prospect, but when the Mets jumped the teenager to the Florida State League last year after he spent 2014 in the short-season New York-Penn League, the move proved to be too ambitious. He was able to tread water in 2015, but his modest performance didnt reflect his considerable upside. Back in the FSL for round two, Rosario is off to a terrific start. He already has three home runs after going without a homer the entire 2015 season. The minors are chock full of talented shortstops off to excellent starts, but Rosarios stock is certainly up as his game performance starts to break through. (BB)

Got to figure he's in Bing around June 1st
ZGiants98 : 4/29/2016 2:33 pm : link
I wonder what happens if he owns Bing though. Cup of coffee in Vegas this year? Probably not but either way as long as he performs well there he is likely starting in Vegas next year and a heartbeat away.
Wright needs to forget the nonsense and stop trying to hit home runs
Eric on Li : 4/29/2016 2:40 pm : link
he can say whatever he wants about adjustments and leg kicks, but nothing is going to change until he stops trying to swing out of his shoes. His bat speed is nowhere near what it used to be, likely a result of losing strength due to his back and normal aging, and he needs to compensate but relying on his hand eye coordination to make contact and go the other way with the ball more. Instead he's still trying to pull 2 strike pitches that are on the outer half.

Mets don't promote players quickly without organizational needs. Unless Rosario is absolutely amazing in AA AND the big club has a need at SS Rosario will most certainly split at A+/AA and open next year in AAA. Could he finish up in AAA? Sure but A+/AA much more likely. Also, 0% knocking the kid but he needs to walk more, he's not close to being a finished product.

Yeah I was envisioning something like last year where maybe he just gets called up for a cup of coffee or a playoff run or something. Still, even that's unlikely.
