NFT: Dee Gordon suspended 80 games for PEDs

Major League Baseball announced early Friday morning that Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon has been suspended 80 games, effective immediately, for the use of performance-enhancing substances.

The league said in a release that Gordon tested positive for exogenous Testosterone and Clostebol. Gordon led the league in stolen bases the past two seasons, with 64 in 2014 and 58 in 2015. He made the All-Star team both years. In 2015, he also led the NL in hits and batting average, and won a Gold Glove award.

When the mets played the Marlins earlier in the month, they interviewed Mattingly and he specifically noted how Gordon was working out more in the offseason and put on more weight so he could hit for more power.

And now this.

Theo Epstein defends his pitcher.

"I saw the clip of essentially an accusation on the ESPN morning show ("First Take")," Epstein said Thursday on ESPN 1000 in Chicago (via ESPN). "I found it to be completely reckless. It's someone who has never met Jake, as far as I know, has never been in our clubhouse. I don't know if he's ever watched him pitch. (He) would make that type of accusation without talking to anyone who knows Jake and anyone who understands his work ethic and changes that he's made."

The guy who was in the Mitchell report discussing Gagne's steroid use? The guy who had the team doctor doing seminars for the Red Sox on how to take steroids for maximum effect? Exactly the guy I would want defending me as a player when it comes to steroid accusations.
