He was the most polarizing player on BBI alone, but I've got to admit, I breathed a sigh of relief when his name was called to the Bears right before our pick.
the Bears might go Hargreaves, but obviously wasn't shocked with Floyd cause they had been linked as well. I wasn't pissed, but a bit disappointed Giants weren't going to get their guy. Could turn out for the best - I love what I'm reading about Apple.
much like how I have followed Evans and Scherff career.
I think OBJ and Flowers already have proven that is it better to be lucky than good.
Evans has been fine with Tampa...but much happier that we settled for OBJ.....and the same goes for Flowers over Scherff who has already settled as a guard....vs that mauling RT everyone wanted.
and I suspect similar results with Floyd and Apple
I knew they were taking Floyd. I will be honest when it was announced Cleveland had traded the pick I kept saying "
please don't be the Giants," over and over.
But when I watch the film people have posted, I just don't see a playmaker. I see a guy who jumps on a lot of piles, a guy who drag tackles, a guy who seems to have trouble actually bringing QBs down when he does get pressure.
but the coach who was part of the franchise that drafted Von Miller, traded to get in front of us to take Floyd. NOT saying he's the next Miller, just saying a pretty good defensive coach obviously thinks pretty highly of Floyd. Maybe Fox will use him differently than we would've, IDK. Time will tell if he is a stud or bust.
too old and too many red flags. I was happy the Giants didn't draft the CB from Florida too. I don't know anything about the guy they picked except he's young and has good size and good speed. Please let him have good health.
I usually don't follow players closely who get drafted by other teams, but I will be following Floyd.
Did the Giants dodge a bullet or get burned?
Might be difficult to truly judge. Bears run a 3-4 and here he would have been running from the WLB spot (most likely). I think he will be rushing the passer more in Chi-town.
considering how much dislike BBI had for Floyd, I was shocked at the immediate hate being spewed at Eli Apple. Sure it stings getting jumped twice, but after reading the scouting report on Apple, it felt like we dodged a bullet.
As soon as they moved up ahead of us I figured they'd draft Floyd.
it is important to take into account what Toth just said. Floyd is a much better fit in a 3-4 defense. He's going to get sacks in that defense. He's not a very good fit in the 4-3, and I still don't think he'll end up being spectacular in coverage.

Wasn't the whole selling point behind Floyd that he was the piece that would give Spagnuolo the ability to run more hybrid fronts, and that he wouldn't simply be a 4-3 DE or WLB?

My only bitch was Reese saying they had an offer to trade down. Seeing who we took, why not ? There were no blue chip 1st rounders left.
I was happy, too. Now going forward, how Floyd performs elsewhere is irrelevant. He can have a HoF career in Chicago but I just don't think he would have worked with NYG.
the selling point that he'd cover TE's, even if it would be to be close to them as they made receptions.
I've not seen Spags do much in the way of innovation either here or with NO or STL other than changing the DL front and having a lot of blitz packages. He's not really wavered with the LB responsibilities, and when he's had tweeners, he's pigeon holed them into one position or the other. Kiwi kept yo-yoing but it wasn't during games, it was seasonal.
Kehl and Sintim felt like square pegs in round holes and I thought of Floyd the same way.

Good point Fats. In the grand scheme of things I think Spagnoulo is the bigger problem here.
until I heard that he was 244lbs at the combine but played at 225.
He is 23 years old. At this point his frame is his frame. Keeping weight on seemed like it was going to be a problem.
Dan Graziano said last night that his weight was back down around 220.
Floyd had to bow out early at the combine and his Pro day. One for cramps, the other he said he ate too much. Flags that he's been binge eating to try to get to a weight that teams would want.

Exactly. It would be like putting Plaxico out there to set the edge and rush the passer.
The only potential draftee I really dug into was Floyd, so being blissfully unaware of Apple was fine with me.

Then silent and staring at the TV after OUR pick.
My wife laughed at us. (So, the usual, really.)
Feeling much better about The New Eli this morning.
Aldon Smith was a beast who transitioned speed to power better than just about anyone I've seen recently. He'd toss tackles.
I just don't see that speed-to-power potential at all from Floyd. He's pure speed.
It will definitely be very interesting to follow him.

With Jack rumored to be off the Giants' board (at least for RD 1) Floyd was my last hope.
He's definitely a boom or bust guy, but I saw him as a player with freakish edge rush ability and the potential to transform our defense.
