Giants 1st And 10 Last Night

Anakim : 4/29/2016 2:58 pm
Anyone see the coverage of the Draft last night? I felt so bad for Paulie D. I mean you have to love the passion of Giants fans, but mama mia, we have some extremely uninformed fans. There wasn't one fan last night that said anything remotely intelligent.

I know, cool story, bro. I'm just amazed at how little some fans know about this team and about this draft.
This is the general populace....

these people are still probably more informed about the Giants then they are about our country....

say he wanted Bosa after Elliot was taken? Bosa was taken before Elliot. Also, Eli Apples mom called Michael Irvin a RB in the pre-show. lol But she gets a pass.
And then you have the fans that

claim to know more football than everyone else on this site who whine and cry about the pick, and drop a string of F Bombs at anyone who disagrees.

LOL...

the "uninformed" or "casual" fans are the masses

True, but I felt horrible for Dottino. He was trying to get quality insight from fans and these fans...I mean they were uninformed at best. It was embarrassing.

Yeah, but I would think that if they're attending a draft party, they may know at least a little bit about the draft and about the team. Dottino was dying out there.

of the football population is uninformed about actual football matters. They enjoy it for the entertainment. I wish I could be more like that - I'm working on it as I get older...

Actually, I think Philly fans really want to be awful deep down. Just so they can piss and moan.
I had to turn it off

and just watched ESPN. Talking with the fans was brutal. Dumb comments/stances with a thick accent makes for bad tv.
Following sports doesn't really refine the intellect.

People don't generally tune into sports for mental exercise. It's entertainment that provides an emotional outlet. We get hooked on the emotional highs and lows involving "our" team. And once we whip up our emotions, it's almost impossible to think clearly and objectively.

On top of that, sports media (where we get our sports information and editorial content) have evolved into a nauseating product that dumbs down sports fans even further with hasty, reactionary, intentionally provocative commentary mixed with C-rate attempts at comedy. You listen to enough of that crap, and you can't help but conform to it.

Giants fans are certainly not immune to all this. More often than not, when a Giants fan calls into a sports radio show, I end up shaking my head or cringing at the shallow, false, and unjustified opinions expressed. More often than not, if I'm watching a Giants game in a bar (which is not often), I'm embarrassed at some point during the game to be rooting for the same team as some loudmouth in a blue jersey yelling nonsense nearby.

It's a shame. Actually has chipped away at my passion for the Giants in recent years.

I went to the draft party last night with my son and some of his friends. And I was over by the Giants draft HQ set with Dottino, and he had on Kennard and Harris before the draft started. Dottino was struggling to find anyone who knew what was going on. I wanted the kids to get up close so they could see the players and I stood few rows back. Most of the people by the railing, other than kids, were a bunch of meatheads, so it's not a shock that Dottino didn't have much to work with. One kid asked Kennard about Elliott and if the Giants should get him. Someone else asked Harris what his favorite meal was. There was one decent question about why the linebacker position was seemingly so devalued. Kennard pretty much said linebackers make it all go because they do everything so they shouldn't be considered an after thought. Someone asked Harris who was better, Dez or OBJ, which caused him to pause a bit and then realize where he was and said OBJ.

Honestly, most of the draft saavy fans were just watching the screens and talking about it there. But it was cold as balls last night, and the events for the kids were hit or miss. They packed up the event gear around 9:45 after the Giants picked. And note to the Giants, get more food ready to be served, especially with kids. Not much to pick from and they were all hungry.

Sorry you had a bad time with the kids.

But yeah, it's pretty astounding. I just think that if you're going to an event of some kind, you should at least have a LITTLE knowledge of what's going on. I mean I'm not expecting a full breakdown of every prospect but at least a little knowledge about the team, its needs and a couple of the prospects is reasonable, IMO.
