creaming over Simmons and that's great, but he hasn't been drafted yet. Obviously, teams see faults in his game as well. Thompson is a flat out ball hawk and a good physical football player. So he didn't run well at the combine - oh well. Can he catch? Can he make plays for once - something we haven't had in years? Yes!

Vernon said JPP and JT Thomas are the leaders on the line and LBs respectively. JJ said DRC is the leader on the DBs, but looking at their interviews, Berhe and Jackson seem like good leaders too.
Darian Thompson had 19 career interceptions at Boise State. "He's very instinctive," Giants coach Ben McAdoo said. "He has tremendous ball skills, but the instincts and the twitch make it happen for him."
that comes to mind is none other than our old buddy, Stevie Brown. Poor angles, poor tackling ...just hope he has the attitude to Be more than just a centerfielder.
as they still have Jackson, Thompson and Behre on the roster and are guys that they really haven't seen play badly. Unless you call them injury prone, and I really wouldn't considering the type of injuries, they already have new guys on the roster for that spot. odd.
Is Berhe really a free/cover safety? He seems like more of a hitter than anything.
Jackson and Thompson are late round players.Jackson a converted corner who was not really a big time talent in college.
There was certainly room to bring in more talent.
Berhe is a SS. Jackson would be good as a slot/FS utility guy. He also seems like a good leader and smart player.
The draft tracker I'm following gave this pick high marks
A steal at this point, Thompson could be the Day 1 starter across from Landon Collins and perhaps clean up some of his coverage mistakes. There is no rangier safety in the draft, and he would have gone higher had Thompson not tested so poorly at the scouting combine after food poisoning caused him to lose 8 pounds. His pro day workout was much better. The Giants like what they see. Grade: A-
But it's pretty obvious the NYG staff and FO aren't as scared off over the right side of the OL like us fans. Let's hope they're right. I have a suspicion though that Jerry and Newhouse will not allow this offense to reach its full potential....
is declaring that he has no confidence in anyone at S except Collins, who himself was definitely shaky at times last year. A lot of bodies at S, with no one having proven himself. Like the backup OL. Having to consistently redraft the same position is not good.

I'd expect that during camp and the season that Collins and Jenkins will become leaders in the secondary with DRC. Perhaps Berhe too.
Well, IMO, the leader/orchestrator needs to make the calls and not sure Collins can make the calls or read the offense. He's a down in the box safety IMO with three CB's and a FS centerfielder.

LOL
"Grab some free food from our buffet on the way out young man"
but disappointed there. I'm never sure how much stock to put into combines. Same thing happened to Collins last year. Was rated #1 safety then combines and then he fell.
I remember reading that he had experience at CB and FS in college. I would hope that with a year of work on his speed, endurance, and flexibility that this guy might be a candidate for some play at CB. Jackson & Thompson could be valuable as versatile guys who could line up on a 3rd or 4th WR one on one on the outside if need be.
at one point he was the top ranked safety...i am good with this pick...many people will say simmons simmons just like epople cried for hargreaves....who is to say the guys we took arent better? time will tell.
High character guy. Smart player, who calls the plays in center field, and he's a ball hawk. He can get coached up on the angles and tackling. I believe in our coaches. He could be a starter for us. I like it guys.

JR just doesn't understand the value a great o-line gives you. They think the 3 steps and pass make up for it which completely ignores the running game. So we'll go 5 years in a row with a mediocre o-line.
When he starts picking off passes. Angles and tackling can be taught. Good size, good speed and great hands, holds onto int. Evidently they liked him more than Simmons.
he can ball. He has moxy. He's going to have to tighten up on the back end, but he is definitely fast enough. Don't be scared by the combine. He is smart.. but will have some bumps as he learns and guesses wrong.
A thought.. He could be used as a third safety, and hybrid LB type, but the guy is smart and does guess right.
Try 4.69 40, which is not great for a safety that has to keep up and react to quicker receivers.
Go back to sleep.he ran 4.53 and 4.55 at his pro day.
You would have quite the scoop if he did!
Not an O Lineman yet, wow.
Don't depend on other teams' scraps to help the O Line,
they just signed 3 JAGS for the O Line recently.

"Darian can tackle in the open field and can play in a variety of different looks." - Coach McAdoo

a competition pick, hardly and strong endorsement.
He's not going to declare a third rounder the starter 10 minutes after he was drafted.
As he shouldn't.
Jerry Reese says Darian Thompson is a free safety. "Center fielder, makes the calls, solid tackler."
So JR doesn't even know the scoop on this dude is that he can't tackle? LOL!
Hopefully this will be JR's LAST draft! So far he's 1 for 3 in this one.

At least he didn't go BPA (a theory I despise).

I agree.
I disagree. Thompson was among the better players left

I thought they said he's a good tackler. He's missed some tackles as the last defender and that was due to a bad angle not bad tackling technique.
So it's getting into position to make a tackle that he needs to work on.
