Seeing Jets Over Years proves Value of Franchise QB like Eli

DaddyM89 : 4/29/2016 10:48 pm
Having seen the Jets try time and time again to get a franchise qb, it proves how valuable it is to have a guy like Eli. Since Eli was drafted in 2004 the Jets have spent NINE draft picks on QBS including several premium picks with basically nothing to show for it.

2016: Christian Hackenberg 2nd Round
2015: Bryce Petty 4th Round
2014: Tajh Boyd 6th Round
2013: Geno Smith 2nd Round
2011: Greg Mcelroy 7th Round
2009: Mark Sanchez 1st Round (4th Overall)
2008 Erik Ainge 5th Round
2006: Kellen Clemmens 2nd Round
2006: Brad Smith 4th Round

That's nine picks including three 2nd rounders and a 1st rounder drafted 4th overall. God Bless Eli.
Hackenberg is already David Carr

after Carr got shell shocked playing for the Texans. The speed of the game was fast for him in college and he had trouble with it after O'Brien left. I can't imagine him adjusting to the NFL
Amen.

You could add the Browns, and until recently, the Raiders, and the Redskins to that list. Many others as well. Look at what the Texans gave to Brock Osweiler. Ridiculous. I know I’m in the minority, but I’m stunned nobody would even consider giving up a mid round pick for Nassib.
I cannot believe they did this.

absolutely floored.

First time in years I feel legitimately bad for my few jet fan friends.

Jets should have traded for Drew Brees.

Linebacker...like the one we haven't had for years.
Hahahahahaha.

The Jets took Hackenberg. Don't know why I'm surprised. They never learn.

Our franchise QB has two Super Bowl MVPs.

How many rings does Kuechly have?

Why? Brees has a $30 million dollar price tag this season and is a free agent next year.
The Bills have been awful

Really....one of the dumbest observations I have ever read SHO. Please when you sleep it off come back and rescind.

I can't believe you are so obsessed with the LB stuff! We won two with role players at LB.

Not valuing it allocated our resources elsewhere. That helped win us a super bowl in 2011 with a guy coming off of his couch during the year.

Only so many resources to give your franchise QB toys at WR, dline, DB's oline and RB. Something else has got to give (LB and TE). Choosing Rolle>Dansby in 2010 helped win us a SB. Justified as far as I'm concerned, but I do miss good LB play.

Our recent struggles have to do with just about every position, not just linebackers, even if they are our weakest position again. One can't just say to add good linebackers without taking away from other resources if they do. Where do we take from? Stick to the plan and get Eli #3.
What does that say for how badly the Giants had to have bungled
Devon : 4/30/2016 2:57 am : link
things to get in the position they have been despite not having to worry about QB at any point, for even a game?

(Same thing for teams like the Chargers and Saints, for that matter.)

Says that they didn't draft well. They held on too long to the old. Having a franchise QB means a lot less money for free agents, so the draft extra vital... we all know how that went for awhile, but hey, things are looking up after the last few.

Don't get me wrong, I'll take a franchise QB any day over a franchise LB, but it would be nice to have both, or at least, someone somewhat competent on the defensive side. The lack of decent LBs have killed us over the years.
Excellent analysis guys!
Carl in CT : 4/30/2016 10:44 am : link
That's why when you don't have one, (as EA always said) you find a way to get one no matter what it costs. If there is a stud available you give up a whole draft if you have to to obtain one. (And more if needed).
I like Hackenberg

though.
