Congrats Hankins

It appears that you will earned that rare thing

A SECOND GIANTS CONTRACT FOR A DT!

Since your replacement was not drafted this year!

Well that is until they stick you with the franchise tag and draft your replacement next year.

Another plus to the Apple pick.

If DRC doesn't restructure, we can dump his 8.5 million cap hit in '17 and give him and Pugh new contracts.

I am loving the Apple pick more by the minute.
Until he

gets hurt again, misses most of the season and they let him walk. /CaptainNegative
Hankins still has to

produce this year, because if he doesn't.............oh boy!
There is literally no chance

Hankins is ever mentioned in the same sentence as the franchise tag.

Many people aren't picking up on what this means. They're like CB wasn't a need pick but they know the G Men. No DTs in rd 2 means Hankins made it to at least a franchise tag. DRC on the other hand...
Doubt DRC gets cut or savings unless
Giants2012 : 4/29/2016 11:15 pm : link
he lays horribly.

He might be asked to take a pay cut yet the depth across the roster isn't great enough to lose him, Hankins or nobody of value IMO.

The Giants cap number will still be nice yet they won't win any biding wars next year as half the league has as much or more cap space next offseason as the Giants had this offseason.
mmm

billings is still there and sorry but our first three picks were WAY bigger needs than a replacement DT for 2017...elis window closing fast we need immediate impacts, we drafted three starters in two days. billings will be high on giants list tomorrow
When was the last time we paid 2 DT's top money?

We signed Snacks for big bucks. I think that Hankins will hit the market next year, especially if JPP comes back to pro bowl form (which is not likely).
Assuming DRC maintains close to his production

paying him $7 to #9 mil is good value. I don't envision the Giants cutting him in the future for cap savings.
That's a terrible wig he's

You just did it. So it literally happened already.

Your last sentence is key. I think they have space fir either JPP or Hankins but not both (technically they can probably re-sign bit, but that would use over 25% of cap space on the DL). It'll be interesting to see which one (if any)gets a long term deal and it could come down to the play of Bromley and Owa more than anything. If either of those two steps up as a viable starter it could spell the end in blue for Hankins and/or JPP respectively.

And Hankins would need a crazy breakout season to get the franchise tag. As of now he's probably looming at a deal south of Snacks while the tag is closer to Malik Jackson.
