Again, I will get more in to the Giants review over the next few days. They've done a nice job so far and I still think the theme is going to be surrounded on guys that will help this team in 2016 for at least the 4th round pick. Who is still out there that I think NYG is looking at?
Many were thinking NYG was going to go offensive line in round 3. I didn't see it. The guys that are available now are most likely backup-caliber. This team like what they have at RG between Jerry and the future of Bobby Hart. So even though there are some names I like there, I think they only look at RT today. Two guys I like are Parker Ehinger - Cincinnati and Halapoulivaati Vaitai - TCU . They are both big guys that played left tackle in college, likely making a move to RT in the NFL. Ehinger is more pro ready, but Vaitai has more upside. If you are looking at developmental left tackles for later in the day, Alex Lewis - Nebraska, Joe Haeg - North Dakota State, and Tyler Johnstone - Oregon. I also think NYG is one of the teams that thinks Brandon Shell - South Carolina can be a starter early in his career.
There are a few guards I personally like a ton. Connor McGovern - Missouri is at the top of that list and I think he is an ideal fit for any rendition of a zone blocking scheme. Joe Dahl - Washington State and Spencer Drango are guys that will need time to adjust to the NFL eay of blocking but the former OTs project really well inside.
As expected, we enter day three with a ton of talent available at RB. There are a few guys there that personally, I would gladly take over any of the current NYG running backs. But also as expected, I think NYG passes on them. They are going in to 2016 with what they have. But man, it's hard to pass on Kenneth Dixon - Louisiana Tech and Paul Perkins - UCLA round after round.
Tight end? The only guy I am really looking at is the kid I helped get in to the East/West Shrine Game, David Morgan - UTSA. Really strong and powerful. Really quick and competitive. He would be an awesome number three TE to have here.
I don't think NYG is done adding to their defense. As a matter of fact I think they are leaning in that direction with their 4th rounder. I think they want to add another body at both DT and DE, perhaps more urgency at DT. Andrew Billings - Baylor is there but they may not see a guy that will make enough plays and/or pass rush impact. I don't think they will look there. If they want someone for their nickel and dime packages, I think Matt Ioannidis - Temple, Connor Wujciak - Boston College, Hassan Ridgeway - Texas, and WIllie Henry - Michigan are on their short list.
If this team is looking for another outside pass rusher for depth purposes, look for them to have high grades on Matt Judon - Grand Valley State, Charles Tapper - Oklahoma, Romeo Okwara - Notre Dame, all guys with the tools they look for. Personally I am still very intrigued by the upside of Stephen Weatherly - Vanderbilt.
Now we come to the spot where I am almost sure NYG will be looking with one their 3 picks today, LB. It's been the Jerry Reese way to try and piece together that second level with middle tier FAs and late draft picks. There is a name that sits atop my board right now...that would be the ideal fit for their weak side LB. BJ Goodson - Clemson. I called him a 100+ tackle guy year in, year out a few months ago and I still feel that way. I'm not as confident he can thrive in the MIKE role, but on the weak side where he has some more open space to deal with, I think he can be a big time presence right away. NYG needs to get this kid on their team and I bet they can't keep him out of the starting lineup by mid-season.
Josh Perry - Ohio State is a solid inside presence that would essentially give them another Keenan Robinson. Tyler Matakevich - Temple and Kentrell Brothers - Missouri are less than ideal athletes but have a nose for the ball. They could be solid backups with big time special teams ability. If this team wants an athlete to develop, look for them to give De'Vondre Campbell - Minnesota a long look. Blake Martinez - Stanford gives them the kind of tools they look for as well.
Lastly, I think there is still a small chance they add another WR. There are some high upside guys available and NYG has to know they are playing with fire there, especially if Cruz can't bounce back. How about the big and fast Charone Peake - Clemson, whom I love. A few guys that you could draft with a developmental approach, Ricardo Louis - Auburn, Kolby Listenbee - TCU, Cayleb Jones - Arizona, Marquez North - Tennessee, Demarcus Robinson - Florida, and Rahard Higgins - Colorado State are names I think they will like.
One more name that keeps jumping out at me is Devon Cajuste - Stanford. He had a faster 3 cone than anyone in this entire class. He is 6'4/235 with monster hands and long arms. He runs good routes and he plays hard. If this team wants a new guy that presents matchup problems kind of the way Aaron Hernandez did for Stanford...this could be a smart risk to take.
My prediction for Day 3:
4 - BJ Goodson - LB/Clemson
5 - Brandon Shell - OT/South Carolina
6 - Willie Henry - DT/Michigan
I have a feeling they will take Judon, some DE depth with upside.
Thanks for the info Sy.
I'm not sure if Day has a position at the next level. Undersized for the inside, and lacks the length to play outside.
We have 3 viable CB's .... We need 4,
BTW, who were your 2 picks for the Giants yesterday? I would guess Sheppard was your 2nd round pick, so who in the 3rd?
Rashard Robinson
Keith Marshall or Alex Collins
WR and Secondary set for years
Bobby Hart at RG and go get Anthony Davis if possible

Dude, Bobby Hart is not playing RG. Are you following this team at all?
Of course, this means that they won't take either of them.

Dude what the F--K are you talking about. The team is high on Hart. Are you following this team

Think of it this way, they had too many needs and were going to have to endure something somewhere. I'm less concerned with what they weren't able to solve than I am hopeful they have legitimate answers for what they did try to address. IMO, it is not about a completed product, because that simply is not happening. But hopefully they got some major pieces that will prove to be core components for the long haul and things are moving in the right direction. The next years shopping list can be more focused.
I was looking at Goodson's prospect review (@nfl) yesterday and he seems to be a hard working leader, however, their reviewer (Zierlein) mentions "...stiffness leads to athletic limitations in space. Lumbering pursuit speed...could be in trouble when matched up in space..." You mentioned above; space is where he would "thrive".
In no way am I questioning your scouting (you got skills), it is just interesting to read such a difference in opinion.
Would you suggest some games I may want take a look at?
I think the upside of the backup WRs on NYG is very limited.
Because if Cruz isnt what he once was, Charone Peak probably becomes the #3 WR by opening day (and in the Giants offense, the #3 WR is a starter and on the field for the majority of offensive snaps). I think the Giants desperately need that 3rd WR (unless magically Cruz is everything he was before which, being a Giants' fan, I know in my heart just won't be the case).
If he's not - then there's NOBODY at #3 - they are missing a starter - and the impact on Beckham is too great. Beckham IS the Giants offense and they need to surround him with talent so we get to see the real deal, not someone whose impact is diminished because there are so few threats that teams are free to triple him and force the Giants to beat them with their non-existent 3rd WR.

Not sure what his watching Goodson makes plays all over the field. He is always around the ball. He tested out VERY well at the combine.
He had an outstanding national championship game
No. Torn ACL in 2013.
I wonder if there is less urgency re OL cause of the new coach. Perhaps there is a feeling he can get more out of what we already have?
Eh. I think he is too small. Cash would be a cheaper version of Landon Collins.
Listenbee
Perry
McGovern
Dixon
Billings
Peake
Goodson
