Fifth year senior. Was a backup and special teamer for 2-plus years, with only one and half season of starting experience. Goodson is an interior enforcer that can play equally tough against blockers and ball carriers. His stoutness and short area power make him a tough assignment for any blocker and his ability to finish plays can be an asset to a defense looking for run defending help. Goodson lacks the ideal athleticism for every down duty, but he has shown to be at least competent in zone coverage and has enough range to play at least two downs in the NFL.
*I saw a ton of Goodson in 2015 and #44 kept popping on to the screen. There were so many players on that defense that I was scouting and time after time Goodson was right in the middle of the action. After further review I almost had him as a 1st rounder. Goodson is thick but fast and quick-twitched. He has all the power you want and maintains it on the move. Goodson moves well enough in coverage to possibly stay on the field for three downs. He is smart and reliable, rarely misses tackles. I dont see superstar here and he can get overwhelmed in traffic, but Goodson is a guy that simply brings it play after play, week after week. I think he can be a 100+ tackle guy year in, year out.
Just hope he is not a Phillip Dillard in the 4th Rd.
It's not like JR has had much success drafting at that
position, to be honest.
Boy, Spags is going to have a lot of new toys to play with!
I liked brothers better but i am happy with this pick. I was right about one thing in my mock. The giants would not draft OL early. People trashed my mock because of that.
New York Giants: B.J. Goodson, LB, Clemson B+ Grade
B.J. Goodson had a ton of buzz in the lead-up to the 2016 NFL Draft, taking tons of meetings. This is the right spot for him though, and it's hardly a surprise that the Giants chose a linebacker, as they have one of the worst situations at the position in the NFL. A solid tackler, Goodson should be able to compete for a starting job right away.

he can play all three linebacker spots including nickel and dime backer if needed. solid speed very good vert for his size. very happy with this pick he is exactly who i wanted...maybe the giants finally hit on a mid-klate round LBer....
also with any OL help in first four rounds i cannot help but think the giants feel they can get davis in a trade or sign a free agent and go with what they have...
is looking much better this year with Kennard, Robinson, Goodson, Brinkley, Thomas, Casillas, Shephard. It is not looking good for Herzlich. Thomas would probably be on the chopping block if he wasn't such a big presence in the locker room.
What are the Giants waiting for? The Giants need a right guard and right tackle and some depth. When are the Giants going to address their need on the offensive line?
Seemed like consensus was to toss Reese after he picked Apple? And now he's killing it? This place is so fickle.
After reports that Apple was going to go at 11 or 13, I think people calmed down a bit about Apple. The thing is he's not a ready-made NFL player yet which is what you want when you're picking in the top 10. That being said Apple has the physical tools to be an exceptional corner, a top 5 NFL corner

Goodson will be starting before the year is over.
What do you think is his best spot?
He said the WILL
Good. That's what we need the most.
The last two picks i hope they take TE,OL.
B.J. Goodson says he visited with the Giants and came away thinking "I definitely wanted to be there.''

Kennard, Goodson and JT Thomas at LB
DRC, Jenkins, Apple at corner
Collins, Darian Thompson at safety
We still need another OLB but that's starting to look really solid
Aguayo was taken in the second by TB. They traded up to get him.

Didn't Tampa or some team trade down and get a kicker in the third round?
Actually reminds me a great deal of Pierce more than Barrow
good news is if he doesnt stay healthy, goodson can play some MIKE and JT thomas can play WILL...
goodson is a GREAT pick very versatile in a pinch. makes our LBer group much better

I keep forgetting we Got Robinson. Hope he can stay healthy.

Goodson projects to be a MLB in the NFL more so than an outside LB

As soon as I saw the pick I thought about your report. BBI can really rock sometimes and make the lead up worth it.
