Fortunate he didn't do a Jaylon Smith on his knee though.

I lowed watching Perkins run in the few UCLA games I caught... freaking awesome!
Paulie, you can criticize the pick all you want
David in LA : 4/30/2016 3:32 pm : link
you're just not choosing to do so with any intelligence.

Ira, we couldn't close the OT's in FA, we didn't completely ignore it. You have to be smart with what you spend. This isn't the uncapped league anymore where you can just allocate all your 1st rounders to OL and have those 1990's Dallas OL's. They had such a surplus of talent, they had the luxury of losing Ron Stone, who turned out to be pro bowler for us.

You're right. Let's take a lesser player because he plays a position you want them to take. Just stop.

Lol exactly. Good lord. People have such strong opinions at this point it's funny. At this juncture of the draft, shouldn't we just trust advanced scouting?
I wouldn't cut vereen
Mike B from JC : 4/30/2016 3:36 pm : link
Very good receiver. I'd cut Williams. He's getting worse instead of better. Jennings and Perkins 1 and 2. Veteran on passing downs.
Both TV shows loved the pick
Jon C. in MD : 4/30/2016 3:37 pm : link
Everyone at NFLN and ESPN loved the pick. I was going to transcribe, but realized my effort would be rewarded with more idiotic comments.

For all the people who say "don't draft a RB high, because you can find them in the later rounds," well, here we are in the later rounds. This is where you find them.

I'm as disapointed as everyone else that Ronnie Stanley didn't drop to pick 149. But you can only select from the players that are available when you pick.

I wanted OL more than anyone but the talent didn't break that way for us in the draft.

The Giants have made solid picks in every round. All of them can impact this year. No shitty developmental picks or backup QBs. Can't really complain about that.

This could be another 07 draft where I wanted Staley.

On paper our defense is worlds better w FA and the draft. This could be the most talented secondary of the Reese era. Offensively the Giants need help on the right side of the OL and that's it.

Agreed, except that I wanted an OT even more than you did.

I'm all in on this kid. We have no one like him. No one can be as elusive and provide the break a way ability like a tiki barber. Jennings is more of a plodder, Williams is useless, Cereen is pretty much a pass catcher, and Rainey is obsolete now.

No but I got accused of being an idiot for focusing on OT multiple times.
Perkins is the perfect running back...
M.S. : 4/30/2016 3:54 pm : link
...for this current offensive line.

Think of Tiki in his first few years behind a so-so run blocking line. It wasn't pretty, and a lot of Tiki's big plays came from his own magic in avoiding the front 4 that sliced through our line.

Well... Paul Perkins has got that same sort of movement and it will especially come in handy with the current right side.

And, then, when we fix the O-line in 2017, watch out!

Paul Perkins can do some real damage.

A wonderful, wonderful all-around running back!!!
When he runs he reminds me of Jennings - maybe more elusive
Eric on Li : 4/30/2016 3:56 pm : link
the way he runs a little upright is a little unique, doesn't seem as compact as Tiki or Devonta Freeman for example. Also doesn't seem nearly as elusive as McCoy. Like Jennings he seems to make 1 cut, run pretty tough, finish runs, has a little more long speed that you'd expect considering he isn't a all that quick, though as I said he seems to have more wiggle.

what contribution do you expect from someone in the 5th round? Bobby Hart is going to get a crack at competing for RT, and he flashed some good things last year. We got Hart in the 6th round, but it's extremely rare to expect contribution that late for OL.

Don't bother. So much stupid around here

People have a right to bitch about the OL, he hasn't done
anything to improve the OL. Please stop folks, with
the Bobby Hart parade, he would be the first late round pick
to do something here on the OL. Go look at the long list.
He failed in FA too, the only lineman from other teams at this stage of the game are scraps, not starter material.
Lets sign Louis Vazquez, LOL.

How has he done nothing with the OL. 3 years in a row he spent a 1st or 2nd round pick on the OL. Each started from day one and all 3 are still starters and helping solidify an improving and young OL. While a high pick on OL would have been nice, there was not really a guy available worthy of the 10th pick. Let's have faith that they either can add at least one decent veteran in June or Hart really is as good as some think, including their own coaches.

I think this guy has more wiggle, more magic and more elusiveness than your post suggests. Saw several UCLA games and this guy is a terrific, instinctual runner who is elusive in small space and doesn't have to gear down a whole lot to change directions!

And watch when he strings a few moves together... he makes would-be tacklers look real, real bad.

Giants fans will come to love this guy!!!

i like this pick better than the wilson pick he more the giants type of workhorse power back i always thought wilson was an odd choice for them not the size, strength and grinding type RB they usually go for.

he will need to grind unless they have a plan to get davis or maybe bring back beatty to play RT which i would welcome over newhouse right now as that OL especially on the right side will not open up much lanes for him

That ship has sailed with Beatty, as far as Davis is
concerned, that was just a report that came out.
There was never anything confirmed, he is sitting
out the season, the Niners have no real incentive
to trade him now, just saying.
Why would a team trade for someone sitting out the season?
Has anybody heard Davis say, if I get traded, I'll play
in 2016? That might be for future reference.

Am I misremembering, or wasn't Perkins an early Heisman front runner in the season? I thought he started really strong and tailed off a bit.

In any case, I do think he's better than all of our mehs at RB.

Thompson and Perkins made our team better. It's not certain that any OL available would have the same impact. That's not meant to ignore the need at RT, but you have to draft according to the talent available. The Giants still had a productive offense last year with the same Jerry/Newhouse tandem on the right side and while it's not ideal, it's at least enough to allow the team to focus on acquiring the best football players they can.

for Christ sake, you have a 35 year old, HOF QB that wins you games with his arm and brains, he HAS to be protected.. hes not 28 anymore, we loose him, we are DONE

Reese is letting Eli's ass hang out and I am worried about our most precious jewel

You pay your insurance and mortage before you pay the cable or the electric bills

Eli is the Mortgage and the insurance... Reese just paid the Cellphone bill first

John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse, I'll be dipped in shit and fried
\

Eli had one of his most productive seasons last year including a personal best 35 TD passes WITH Newhouse and Jerry on the right side and WITH a mediocre Randle as the number 2 receiver. Reese just gave him more weapons. If the D is just mediocre instead of terrible this team is now a whole lot better.

I dont care what RB you draft, they will all struggle if you bring him in for three plays and then sit him on the bench for a quarter.

excellent point, seemed like Jennings would get rolling, and we'ed put Williams in and the drive would die, like its was his turn in Pop Warner or something

I had very high hopes for Williams after his rookie year

Jennings can't handle the snaps of a feature back. This is a fact many don't seem to understand.

But that wasn't going to happen. Perkins is the next best RB. We got a steal. Jennings and Vereen are a fine tandem. Throwing in Perkins makes this an excellent trifecta and I think he would be an excellent if not superior replacement in case of injury. Rainey, Darkwa, and Williams can fight it out in camp to see who stays.

He has not played in a year and has not really said he wants to play again. Reality was he was OK for SF when he did play. SF entire offense was channeled through the left side with Staley and Iupati. I thought Davis was vastly overrated.

Just because you may need to upgrade the right side, does not mean that just over drafting an OL solves that problem. Who are all these OL that should have been drafted that were going to automatically be penciled in as starters
