haven't seen a lot of Perkins but will go with Sy's assessment. From what I've heard he's got receiving skills which is crucial for a back in a west coast offense
Williams and Darkwa for sure. Perkins may be redundant to Vereen but maybe not. I will see what Sy thinks on this- why Perkins when we have so much invested in Vereen?
could turn out to be a player that takes over most of the running back duties, this kid is real good I am telling you. I do not watch a ton of college ball, but on Saturday night's late sometimes there is nothing better and I watched about 3 or 4 UCLA games and this kid was real good, I do think he could be an every down back, what doesn't he do to make him an every down back? only thing I see is his size, but this kid is tough.
He had a hamstring injury. He is faster than the 4.54 he posted. I watch a lot of Pac-12 football and this kid is a tough, elusive runner. Friends who are Bruin fans love him. One longtime Bruins supporter told me is the best RB they ever had and class has produced a lot of quality backs.
Giants selected UCLA RB Paul Perkins with the No. 149 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
Perkins (5'10/208) spent two years as the Bruins' feature back before turning pro, parlaying 622 carries into 3,491 yards (5.61 YPC) and 29 touchdowns, adding 80 receptions. His Combine metrics were solid-if-unspectacular, running 4.54 with a 32-inch vertical and 10-foot-4 broad jump. A fundamentally-sound three-down back, Perkins combines darting quickness with exciting lateral moves and is an ultra-competitive, tough inside runner. A Devonta Freeman clone, Perkins is good enough to capitalize if given an extended NFL opportunity. New York is an excellent landing spot for Perkins to earn early-career chances in one of the league's most underwhelming running back corps.
say he can develop him and trade him later for picks like goodson
hes a smug assclown
dude why the negativity? perkins is a good pick. you draft for value at this point perkins can help us. any OL you draft prob wont have a huge impact...you dont draft a starting OT in round 5...we have to go with what we have maybe a free agent maybe a june 1st cut maybe a trade...take a pill dude breathe this was a great draft for us so far
Whoever is availble via the draft...a similar guy can be had in UDFA and veteran FA right now.
Agreed. Weve still got another pick. You mentioned Shell. Hes OK, but lumbers a little. In any event, nobody we get now is going to come in and start. Like Hart, theyd need at least a year. The only exception would be if we traded for Davis.
He may not be the guy you wanted or the position you wanted. But, it is hard to deny the ultimate value for a very talented RB still there in the 5th round. He has the potential to be the most complete back on the team right out of the gate. That doesn't mean he will start. But, it does mean just about every RB on the roster should take notice and realize any one of them could be cut. The one exception could be Vereen given his specific skillset.
And, I don't get people complaining about taking a RB. RB was a general consensus of a position we needed to upgrade. We didn't necessarily need a starter. But, many, if not most, agreed, we needed better behind Jennings. This pick does just that and could really end up being a steal in this draft.
Thompson and Perkins made our team better. It's not certain that any OL available would have the same impact. That's not meant to ignore the need at RT, but you have to draft according to the talent available. The Giants still had a productive offense last year with the same Jerry/Newhouse tandem on the right side and while it's not ideal, it's at least enough to allow the team to focus on acquiring the best football players they can.
The Giants have a lot of money and time to find a Tackle. They are not getting a starting Tackle in the 5th round. This kid can help us this year.
Please tell me where they are going to find a starting RT
at this stage of the game?? Did you happen to miss free agency
by any chance, were you out of the country.
... we should just look straight ahead right now to NEXT April? No. wait, that won't work for the troubled souls of the experts in here -- because they won't know who the GM will be. I guess we may as well watch the games.

If he became 80% as good as Devonta Freeman we are in business. That's quite a comparison because Freeman was a top 5 back last year
what contribution do you expect from someone in the 5th round? Bobby Hart is going to get a crack at competing for RT, and he flashed some good things last year. We got Hart in the 6th round, but it's extremely rare to expect contribution that late for OL.

for Christ sake, you have a 35 year old, HOF QB that wins you games with his arm and brains, he HAS to be protected.. hes not 28 anymore, we loose him, we are DONE
Reese is letting Eli's ass hang out and I am worried about our most precious jewel
You pay your insurance and mortage before you pay the cable or the electric bills
Eli is the Mortgage and the insurance... Reese just paid the Cellphone bill first
John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse, I'll be dipped in shit and fried
\
Ding ding ding
I hope he does just to piss you off.

How many people wanted Zeke at 10 if he was there as the BPA regardless of position?
OK
Paul Perkins says he was FaceTiming with Owa Odighizuwa "not too long ago." Right after he got picked.
hes a smug assclown
Marshall Outhouse
say it with me.... Marshall Outhouse
he's a refrigerator on a dolly
Who are all these NFL ready lineman they should be drafting? No one left is going to be a starting tackle week 1.
If he doesn't, will you just stop posting until the season starts?
That's how I look at it...veteran cap causualties. We have dollars to spend.
He can catch and pass block per nfl network.
Perkins is the most talented RB on the team now. Just think about that.
Absolute steal in round 5.

How is he in the passing game?

Excellent receiver and blocker. Near top grade in both slots.

The issue with Perkins is scheme. He only carried the ball 5 times out of 236 carries from a pro set last year at UCLA
I think we did just that rounds 4 & 5. Both guys I can see contributing this year.

are you just gonna troll all the draft threads an bitch about everything , it's fucking obnoxious. Not sure if you know this but Youre not a scout

if you find a player that can get short yards behind a so-so run blocking OL, that's not nothing.
another way would be to look at the pass protection piece here, but, if, as said above, he is anything like Tiki, you definitely take that at 5.
That said, far less convinced than I was with 1-3, puzzle pieces wise, time will tell.
