what contribution do you expect from someone in the 5th round? Bobby Hart is going to get a crack at competing for RT, and he flashed some good things last year. We got Hart in the 6th round, but it's extremely rare to expect contribution that late for OL.

Don't bother. So much stupid around here

If Bobby Hart cant beet out Outhouse in camp, then he's another fuckign wasted pick

argument is fucking stupid. You pick players that improve your team, it's not about numbers.

This is a good pick.
They
AcidTest : 4/30/2016 2:41 pm : link
are salivating all over him on ESPN. McShay said he was a great pick at 149. He’s right.

Here is a great write up of Perkins:

Not to mention that Hart is a potential starter in his 2nd year, not his draft year. It is unlikely a OL taken in the 5th round or later will start or even have a shot to start.

On the other hand, Perkins may very well be the most complete back on the roster, right now. He likely won't start. But, he certainly has a real shot to contribute if he shows anything this spring and summer. He is a great value and an excellent player who is much better than a 5th round value.

Williams and Darkwa for sure. Perkins may be redundant to Vereen but maybe not. I will see what Sy thinks on this- why Perkins when we have so much invested in Vereen?

Williams most certainly is not getting cut because of this pick.

And we actually don't have enough RBs because we don't have a franchise type there. Ideally the RBs are Jennings, Perkins and Vereen with Perkins taking most of the snaps by 2017 or the second half of this season
Our RB stable
UConn4523 : 4/30/2016 2:42 pm : link
sucks. Just because the stable is full doesn't mean it isn't a need.
This was a very good choice. Like a lot of rookies, he's going to
Ira : 4/30/2016 2:42 pm : link

sjnyfan : 4/30/2016 2:43 pm : link
No RB forced more missed tackles last year. Very elusive.
Perkins
LakeGeorgeGiant : 4/30/2016 2:43 pm : link
is exactly the kind of back this team needed. We have backs, but none like this.
Come on

Despite McAdoo's supportive comments, Williams would be many people's guess. But, Jennings is in his thirties and has trouble staying healthy
Who
AcidTest : 4/30/2016 2:44 pm : link
do we have at RB? Like OL, LB, TE, and S, it’s one of many positions were we have a lot of bodies but not great talent. That’s what happens when you butcher so many drafts. A dearth of talent. As Sy said, it’s going to take more than one year to fix all these problems.

I stand by what I said

if Reese comes up with a replacement RT between now and the opening of camp, I'll change my tune

the right side of the line is a mess and Eli is older and needs protection and we cant run for shit

you've really lost your goddamm mind. mad that our gm didn't fix the right side of our o-line with a fifth round pick. We have six picks and more than six needs. let the team draft talented guys, you just sit there and shut up.
Value pick maybe but...
dharmabum : 4/30/2016 2:44 pm : link
I also see this as a way of addressing a weaker O-line. He's a threat catching the ball on check down plays. If they ever had Vereen and Perkins in the backfield together with Odell and Shepherd on the field, Eli would have 4 legit targets at varying distances of the field. If the pressure is strong he can check down to Vereen or Perkins.

I like the pick!
I am more
PaulN : 4/30/2016 2:45 pm : link
Excited about this draft then I have been in ages. I loved the 4th and 5th round picks, I was thrilled with Shepherd, I am OK with Apple because he fits what Spags wants to do, only Thomson was I a little disappointed, but that was because I wanted Simmons, but I have come around on that since he was a ballhawk and that is what we need and what Spags wants from that spot also.

I think Perkins obviously has talent, but . . . .
TC : 4/30/2016 2:45 pm : link
I think there were and are better choices at RB.

The big problem with Giants' F.O., other than some not very good picks, is that they insist they never screw up. They're sanctimonious. So when they put a clunker on the squad, he "just needs time to get coached up" or whatever the hell! So these guys who should be gone a season or two sooner, stick around forever stinkin' it up. That's how you get The JPP of Tight Ends, No Gain Dayne, and likely now, A. Williams.

So, it looks like the Giants are convinced that A. Williams is a reliable power back, which I don't believe, so they're not interested in a replacement. Nothing against Perkins, but Jonathan Williams would have been sweet here.

I lost my mind when they picked Apple at 1 instead of an OT or a DE
then followed it up with yet ANOTHER safety at 3 , were we could gotten a OG or a DE..
are your forgetting how many Safeties we have drafted in the last 3-4 years?

Williams getting cut is now a very distinct possibility. 5th round picks are usually not a lock to make a team. Perkins not only is a lock, but the type of back that can in the mix right away. He could actually start if he shows enough early in the season or there are injuries. Darkwa and Williams should be on immediate alert, There is even an outside chance, I think, that Jennings could even be on alert. At the very list, this certainly limits the opportunity that Jennings remains here after his contract.
Don't you guys get it yet?
Doomster : 4/30/2016 2:51 pm : link
Yes we need a RG and RT.....but are you going to draft a project just for the sake of getting one? We have drafted too many projects, that didn't even suit up for games....Name one, just one Giant draft choice in the last 10 years, drafted after the 3rd round that was a solid starter in the OL.....

Or are you going to draft a guy who can contribute.....

This looks like a draft where guys actually look like football players, and can make plays.....

It's obvious, the Giants did not think there was much out there for the OL.....so Reese will be dumpster diving, or dare I say, make a trade...

As for picking a RB, who on the Giants, outside of Jennings is an every down back? And how long will Jennings last if he is to carry the load?

What I am seeing is guys that can compete for jobs.....
Sounds like a great pick
ZogZerg : 4/30/2016 2:51 pm : link
Another play maker to add to the roster. The Offense could be very fun to watch this year.
Jennings is safe this year
Sy'56 : 4/30/2016 2:52 pm : link
But he and his 3 M cap hit next year are not

Andre Williams and Orleans Darkwa will be competing for a roster spot.
Perkins
AcidTest : 4/30/2016 2:52 pm : link
looks like he’s playing on grass, and defenders appear is if they're wearing rollerskates,
In all honesty, I think he and Shepard
Matt M. : 4/30/2016 2:52 pm : link
are the two best picks and both could be steals where they were selected. Perkins could be one of the biggest steals of the entire draft. They filled holes on D with solid, if unspectacular players. But, on offense they selected two guys that can really have a big impact and give them the solid presence of additional playmakers. This should ensure that Beckham doesn't get blanketed all game long, especially if Cruz can come in even at 80-85%. Eli should now be able to shine for the next few years because there will be more than 1 weapon on the field most plays.
If the Doomster is happy with this draft...
okiegiant : 4/30/2016 2:52 pm : link

The problem with cutting A. Williams now is that while not even a great short yardage back, IMO, with an injured Darkwa, Jennings is the only other RB who I've seen run with power in short yardage, and Jennings has had injury problems for his entire career.

Thompson and Perkins made our team better. It's not certain that any OL available would have the same impact. That's not meant to ignore the need at RT, but you have to draft according to the talent available. The Giants still had a productive offense last year with the same Jerry/Newhouse tandem on the right side and while it's not ideal, it's at least enough to allow the team to focus on acquiring the best football players they can.

for Christ sake, you have a 35 year old, HOF QB that wins you games with his arm and brains, he HAS to be protected.. hes not 28 anymore, we loose him, we are DONE

Reese is letting Eli's ass hang out and I am worried about our most precious jewel

You pay your insurance and mortage before you pay the cable or the electric bills

Eli is the Mortgage and the insurance... Reese just paid the Cellphone bill first

John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse, I'll be dipped in shit and fried

He's only the 5th ranked RB by ourlads and we wasted a 5th round pick to get him. Even worse, he can catch the ball out of the backfield! We already have Vereen and he'll never ever get injured and leave us with a backfield without a versatile threat.

Boooooo this man. Booooo. If he's that good, like Sy says, we should have drafted him at 10!!
