i like this pick better than the wilson pick he more the giants type of workhorse power back i always thought wilson was an odd choice for them not the size, strength and grinding type RB they usually go for.

he will need to grind unless they have a plan to get davis or maybe bring back beatty to play RT which i would welcome over newhouse right now as that OL especially on the right side will not open up much lanes for him
.

That ship has sailed with Beatty, as far as Davis is
concerned, that was just a report that came out.
There was never anything confirmed, he is sitting
out the season, the Niners have no real incentive
to trade him now, just saying.
Why would a team trade for someone sitting out the season?
Has anybody heard Davis say, if I get traded, I'll play
in 2016? That might be for future reference.

is better than every NYG RB. Right now

that's a pretty bold statement right here

Am I misremembering, or wasn't Perkins an early Heisman front runner in the season? I thought he started really strong and tailed off a bit.

In any case, I do think he's better than all of our mehs at RB.

about not getting an OL that might be a 2nd or 3rd stringer.

Perkins is the most talented RB on the team now. Just think about that.

Sy, if your excited, I'm excited. I think Hart is going to take one of the right side line positions. Good feet, smart kid. The oline will be better just on Flowers being one year older. They will find a replacement for Newhouse.

Thompson and Perkins made our team better. It's not certain that any OL available would have the same impact. That's not meant to ignore the need at RT, but you have to draft according to the talent available. The Giants still had a productive offense last year with the same Jerry/Newhouse tandem on the right side and while it's not ideal, it's at least enough to allow the team to focus on acquiring the best football players they can.

for Christ sake, you have a 35 year old, HOF QB that wins you games with his arm and brains, he HAS to be protected.. hes not 28 anymore, we loose him, we are DONE

Reese is letting Eli's ass hang out and I am worried about our most precious jewel

You pay your insurance and mortage before you pay the cable or the electric bills

Eli is the Mortgage and the insurance... Reese just paid the Cellphone bill first

John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse, I'll be dipped in shit and fried
\

Eli had one of his most productive seasons last year including a personal best 35 TD passes WITH Newhouse and Jerry on the right side and WITH a mediocre Randle as the number 2 receiver. Reese just gave him more weapons. If the D is just mediocre instead of terrible this team is now a whole lot better.

Everyone at NFLN and ESPN loved the pick. I was going to transcribe, but realized my effort would be rewarded with more idiotic comments.

For all the people who say "don't draft a RB high, because you can find them in the later rounds," well, here we are in the later rounds. This is where you find them.

I'm as disapointed as everyone else that Ronnie Stanley didn't drop to pick 149. But you can only select from the players that are available when you pick.

Really makes you wonder about the wisdom of taking a RB in top ten, even someone like Elliott.

Marc Ross says RB Paul Perkins was "hardest working guy on the team" at UCLA.

Marc Ross on Paul Perkins: "He's a complete back. He's got great vision. One-cut back."
Should have watched more UCLA this past year ...

Or gone to them, (my son-in-law has season tickets).

This kid is exciting, and he DOES remind me of Tiki. It was almost by accident (and with a lot of help from his fullbacks) that Tiki became one of the very best cut-back runners in the history of the NFL.

if this running back by committee shit continues then our running game may continue to be a disaster. We will see this season whether all of that crap was TC or McAdoo.

I dont care what RB you draft, they will all struggle if you bring him in for three plays and then sit him on the bench for a quarter.

excellent point, seemed like Jennings would get rolling, and we'ed put Williams in and the drive would die, like its was his turn in Pop Warner or something

I had very high hopes for Williams after his rookie year

Jennings can't handle the snaps of a feature back. This is a fact many don't seem to understand.
Jennings would never get "feature back" carries anyway

This offense runs through Eli.
For a rd#5 pick...

Heavy lifters; Vereen & Perkins - change-of-pace.

According to the report above, Perkins not a good blocker (probably why he fell to the 5th round).

Being a big Pac-12 guy...
Amtoft : 4/30/2016 6:45 pm : link
I really like Perkins... he played hurt last year and was still good! His feet, the way he runs, reminds me of LeSean McCoy. Very happy with the pick in the 5th round! Great value!
I have watched all UCLA games

for at least 20 years, including all of Paul Perkins' games. He is truly a real good running back-- fast, elusive, cuts well, goes up the middle. he reminds me more of Joe Morris than Tiki. You will love the way he plays. Just a great draft pick.
Awesome highlight reel!

I wanted Elliott
Hot Rod in Florida : 4/30/2016 8:42 pm : link
But that wasn't going to happen. Perkins is the next best RB. We got a steal. Jennings and Vereen are a fine tandem. Throwing in Perkins makes this an excellent trifecta and I think he would be an excellent if not superior replacement in case of injury. Rainey, Darkwa, and Williams can fight it out in camp to see who stays.
the Giants
Glover : 4/30/2016 8:50 pm : link
will be a better team in 2016. Not sure how much better, but with some decent luck as far as injuries go, they will have 7-10 wins, and may be in a better position next season to chose talent over need, like they did this year despite the needs they did not address.

Dad, Bruce Perkins had a few years in the NFL as a fullback, but I did not realize that Dallas Cowboy great Don Perkins is Bruce's brother.

So our new Giant Paul Perkins is the nephew of Don Perkins.

I hope on opening night in Dallas he makes Uncle Don proud !!
Davis/OL
stretch234 : 5/1/2016 9:10 am : link
He has not played in a year and has not really said he wants to play again. Reality was he was OK for SF when he did play. SF entire offense was channeled through the left side with Staley and Iupati. I thought Davis was vastly overrated.

Just because you may need to upgrade the right side, does not mean that just over drafting an OL solves that problem. Who are all these OL that should have been drafted that were going to automatically be penciled in as starters
