Fourth year senior. Has a freakish frame and shows flashes of being an absolute terror to cover. Size and speed are there. Looks like he is easily adding the needed bulk to his frame. Adams is still considered a raw prospect that is long on talent and tools, but short on skills. He still shows awkward movement in short space at times. Adams is a high effort player that can get up the seam in a blink and easily catches the ball with his hands. He doesnt make a big impact as a blocker but he gets after his man hard. He bends well and he knows how to use his long arms. Adams has the upside to be an all around tight end if he can continue to add weight and refine his route running. There is an upside here that very few tight ends possess.
*I was ready to have a 2nd round grade on Adams. Talent wise I think he has the goods to be a big time matchup problem for opposing defenses. Speed and length with nice ball skills are always a good combination. I got some information on Adams inability to stay consistent off the field, however. He doesnt work hard and didnt take care of his business. People from his own camp were pretty down on him. Thats rare because its usually the other way around to a fault. Upside is enormous with this kid if he can turn that around,
Insane value in Round 6. Many had him going on Day 2. He has all the measurables to be a starting TE. The only thing I question are his smarts. Only a 15 on the Wonderlic. Other than that, FANTASTIC value.
I picked this guy in the 3rd Round of BBI's Mock Draft for the Packers. Did not expect him to fall like this. I liked what I read about him, and thought highly of him. The Giants getting him the 6th round is awesome. I hope he's everything I thought he could be.

All of these picks can contribute year 1. For as good as the 07 draft was Koets didn't do much, Alford was a situational player, and Deossie was a ST stud.
All of these guys can impact year 1 and be starters sooner rather than later.
And Gil brandt and Phil Savage were openly questioning why Adams was still available, saying they thought he'd already have been selected. Interesting.
Sys write up, it sounds like hes an upside guy with measurables, but some commitment issues. We havent had a lot of luck with those types of players. But he has talent.
Dane Brugler: "player who routinely stands out for his contributions as both a blocker and receiver."
Tony Pauline: "spoke with people around the league who believe [South Carolina TE Jerell] Adams made major strides in 2015 and went from being a basketball player on the football field in 2014 to becoming a tight end last season..."Teams are not only awed by his athleticism (Adams is hoping to run in the low 4.6s and vertical jump at least 37-inches at the combine after weighing in near 248-pounds)," Pauline hears, "but the toughness he displayed as a blocker during the Senior Bowl."
Todd McShay: TE Jerell Adams "might have the highest ceiling of the [tight ends] in this class..."solid value" in late Round 2 and a "steal" in Round 3."
Mel Kiper Jr.: South Carolina TE Jerell Adams could be a first-round pick, writing that "teams who had maybe a third-round grade on him will start looking at him as more of an option at the end of Round 1."

I can see him being the starting TE week one
He won't be starting anytime soon. Not a shot.
We'll see. You're on! I'm not high on any of the TEs on the roster, though I think Tye can make a decent H-Back.
the opportunity, hopefully, he will develop the work ethic and professionalism needed at the next level. If he didn't have those issues though - we wouldn't be getting him in the 6th round
Adams was an under-utilized target at South Carolina. After two seasons as mostly a backup, Adams earned the full-time starting job at tight end and caught 49 passes for 700 yards (14.3 ypc) with four TDs in 2014-15. He has bulked up nearly 20 pounds in the past year and has always been a physical, tough competitor. Adams is a big target with elite speed to stretch the field. He also can develop into a solid in-line blocker and good space blocker with improved hand usage. One of the most underrated players in this class, Adams is worth a second round pick. --March 5, 2016
It's an awesome pick. And I think Adams can be a guy that turns around the work ethic issues in the NFL. He loves the game. Perhaps he just needs to mature and all of the sudden NYG has a dangerous 2 way threat.
From what I've seen, developmental TE at this point
but more developed than Adrien Robinson was when he was drafted. Fastest TE at the combine with almost big WR speed, which fits into McAdoo's philosophy of getting a hybrid TE/WR . Basketball player who converted to TE. Incredible leaper but needs to learn how to high-point the football better Only allowed 1 QB pressure in 95 attempts as a blocker.
Hands are not ideal for a TE. Needs to improve a little on football intelligence but is very coachable and grew dramatically at the position as he transitioned away from being a basketball player. Still lacks a little fluidity when running in pads even though he is extremely fast.
This isn't Adrien Robinson. He's got TE1 potential but will probably need most of the year to develop
and injury issues. He was in a run heavy offense but they thought he was athletic enough to develop into a solid receiver. And, he was in the old offense - not McAdoo's.
Adams missed summer school class and was suspended for practice
by Spurrier. Big whoop. School's not for everyone. Obviously intelligence counts for something but I think he can far make up for it with his physical abilities. He has starting potential and like I said earlier, I can see him being the starting TE week one.
i wasn't making a comparison, just pointing out that you have to be somewhat intelligent to get on the field. Also not trying to say anything about ADams other than relate it to the wonderlic and what espn intimated
"SEC Fall Honor Roll" is, but Adams made it twice. It doesn't sound like the kid's dumb. There's something that's an issue, if Kiper said he could be a first round pick and he made it to the 6th.
Was a total measurables swing for the fence...and in the 4th round no less. This guy has probably even more upside due to his huge frame and wingspan...and has twice the college production of Robinson...and he is a 6th rounder.
seemed to be based on him needing a lot of reps to get it - but seeing as though he was a basketball star - he might have come to the game late or being a natural, things might have come to him very easy before college.
at least, he put on quality weight during two years in college so he did some work off the field
...left tackle wingspan..and nearly 10 in hands...to go along with a 6-6 frame and the athleticism. For a 6th rounder there is a lot to get excited about.
will be patient with Adams and not expect him to contribute immediately. He is very talented but he is also raw and will likely spend the first few weeks on the inactive list. Year two is when I expect him to make an impact.
the Wonderlic. NFL.com highlight video stated that he was "SEC Honor Role" two times. I assume that's an academic honor.
What' the off-field issue? Sy's report that his own camp is down on him doesn't bode well, but it still seems like a solid, solid pick.
Wonderlic is a BS test. It doesn't translate into on the field football ability. It may suggest some issues with comprehending an NFL playbook and that's it.
My credibility? I'm a psychologist and former psychometician - (means that I developed and implemented psycholological instruments in my work - I reviewed the Wonderlic, but never worked with it).
Good size speed ratio and good length, slender but strong, willing blocker but not ideally built for the task, can catch the ball but is not the most natural hand-catcher.
That is carrying a 3.0+ GPA for two preceding semesters or 3 preceding quarters and his major was public heath. So not rocket science, but not basket weaving either.
round with my mock and sure while I was sitting and praying the Giants would pounce on a OT for our 6th round pick I was pretty annoyed it was another position taken, but once I did a double take and saw it was J Adams I had a huge smile on my face and was very happy with this pick, still a bit surprised he slid as far as he did but glad he is now part of the big blue family. He actually reminds he of Antonio Gate's light a bit and anything close to AG is going to eventually make our OFF quite dynamic.
for the TE spot. If he slacks off, even if he out talents the others, he will not play, other than ST. He's gonna need to grow up fast.OR, Hell be a 6th cut in camp with a bad rep that precedes him.
If he grows up, and grasps his responsibility, Giants can have a dynamic O.
And Gil brandt and Phil Savage were openly questioning why Adams was still available, saying they thought he'd already have been selected. Interesting.
Were they drinking martinis? Not impressive oversight since this is what they do
i cant argue with the talent they drafted just think they had bigger needs at other positions they didnt address
with fells career probably ended after that mrsa last year they needed a TE but FA was loaded with guys they could have signed. proven commodities, safety as well there we several good candidates there that would freed up thier draft picks to fix depth at need areas in this draft
adams was a guy i liked the other was bryce williams both big 2 way giants type TE guys they have needed since robinson was a total bust and the injuries that ended jake ballard's career who could have been one of the best they had since bavaro had his career not been cut brutally short
no OL at all and they didnt select any DL at all where they probably needed some depth at both DE and DT particularly with the 1 year status of jpp i expected them to add some injury depth at least if not a high pick to potentially replace jpp should he leave or not be extended they do have odi and can probably fill depth there cheap enough along the DL but RT is still a huge newhouse shaped hole as it stands
even after drafting apple in the first round they still need another CB, hopefully they can sign powers to fix the depth, maybe they have an undrafted guy they feel will do a job but anyone in UDFA is likely a developmental guy at this point. they will need to probably re-sign mcbride as well but are an injury or two away from real trouble at CB unless they can fill those spots as long as DRC and jenkins stay healthy they have a very good starting trio as apple will start and see alot of time in the slot and nickel packages this year and could eventually replace one of the vets outside in a year or two
all 6 players will figure to start year 1 which is a very good haul but they really needed to fix the lines (both of them) and didnt they dont have enough cap space to sign a meaningful starter at CB,OT or OG plus thier draft picks there after what they spent in FA before the draft it was not getting returns from guys like brewer ,mccants ,austin, etc that lead them to need to spend big in FA this year as it was
they didnt trade nassib who is now in his contract year so they essentially lost those 2 picks as you remember they stated he would provide injury cover for eli or they would trade him for a future pick back and they did neither worse still they lost a pick to trade up as well that could have at least brought in a DT or OG they could have developed so im glad they didnt trade up at any point this draft at least
reese did a good job with the players he picked its a 2007 level draft where every pick will contribute and be good players in big blue but he has some work left to do to fix that OL before September. if that OL doesnt get the running attack going better this year then reese could be on a very hot seat, and another 6-10 season this year could have someone else drafting next off-season
I picked this guy in the 3rd Round of BBI's Mock Draft for the Packers. Did not expect him to fall like this. I liked what I read about him, and thought highly of him. The Giants getting him the 6th round is awesome. I hope he's everything I thought he could be.
I remember. I loved it too when you did. I wonder what made the kid drop though?
...hands aren't great but can get vertical and highpoint the ball up the seam...something Eli hasn't had to work with since Martellus. He has a chance to make it.
1) he is Gronkesque after the catch. Not QUITE as aggressive, but he gallops like a gazelle. Reminds me of Ben Watson in that regard.
2) He is WIDE the fuck open on virtually every reception! Like by five yards!!!
I just got really excited about a player I had never heard of before. If he can block like some of you are saying, he will remind of a cross btwn marvelous Bennet and Ben Watson....which could be lethal.
What a draft. Past three years we got some PLAYERS.

He reminds me of Ladarius Green.
Actually fills a real need not a made up perceived one.
Can't believe we didn't sign or draft any lineman
TE is much tougher position to play

I like what Reese did with these last two picks. Gamble on upside in the later rounds instead of rounds 3 and 4

Poor work ethic issues. School/Film/S & C work/Practice
What' the off-field issue? Sy's report that his own camp is down on him doesn't bode well, but it still seems like a solid, solid pick.

Anyone who refers to an "honor roll" as an "honor role" scores even lower than he did on the Wonderlic.
Reese on Jerell Adams, says the TE is a "better blocker than receiver."

"Jerell Adams is a big kid who can really stretch the defense down the seam." - Jerry Reese
Go figure. You can kick ass in school but do shitty on the Wonderlic.

You should see some of my own very best typos.
Ross says Jerell Adams is he fastest tight end in the draft.
#Giants draft boss Marc Ross says Jerell Adams' blocking effort is notable. Route running and hands are raw.
This might be my favorite pick of the draft.
Ha! You weren't kidding. It looked like he was standing in the middle of the other team's huddle.
We have to get this kid on the field ASAP.
