No lineman drafted on either side of the ball -

Del Shofner : 4/30/2016 4:40 pm
can't remember that ever happening before. Not complaining - I like our picks - and we did make two big DL signings in FA. And we did also draft a lot of OL high up lately. Still - I think this is a first.

still june 1st cuts some FAs n possible trades. great draft
I don't follow CFB at all - I rely on draft guides, BBI posters, etc.

for draft guidance. With the exception of Tunsil, none of those guys had anyone rated highly enough throughout our draft selection to warrant passing up on who we ultimately took for them.

There were a lot of holes and 6 picks, I'm OK with what we walked away with. They have cap space, they'll find more bodies for the lines.
Just a matter of how draft fell

Also did not appear to be targeting specific positions in Rounds 5 & 6 unlike under Coughlin
Most of the pre draft commentary

Indicated the strength of the draft was in the D-line. Not a huge area of need, but did we pass up on any clear value picks in the middle rounds? Should we have taken Billings or Bullard for instance or were the grades close enough to warrant our 3-5 rounders?

I am just busting your balls. I know you said you weren't complaining.

OL is a disaster. A total failure.
I'm glad they went BPA in 5 and 6
Vanzetti : 4/30/2016 5:13 pm : link
But I think people are right about this draft being different from what we have seen from Giants/Reese in the past.

No lineman
No trading up a few spots to get a specific player
Definitely looking more for need in the first three rounds
I actually think it helped by ...
Ray in Palm Coast : 4/30/2016 5:23 pm : link
...NOT drafting to the "Strength of the Draft".
with all the depth at Dline and Oline (to a lesser extent),

it allowed the Gmen to get good value at other positions with players who seem like no only good fits BUT who also compliment players already on the roster!
The fact that they didn't draft an OL will probably
steve in ky : 4/30/2016 5:29 pm : link
make the Giants more appealing to sign with when approaching guys not drafted. They will not be competing with draft picks to make the team.
They pursued some OTs during FA
j_rud : 4/30/2016 5:47 pm : link
so we know they feel they can stand to upgrade the right side. And they very well may have if a prospect had tje grade when they were selecting. Looks like that didnt happen, or that the guys they did select graded out significantly better than any OL available when they were on the clock.

There are still cuts and the outside shot of a trade for Davis once hes reinstated.
It was an overblown "need"

Maybe this Byron Stingly guy beats out Newhouse. Who knows

This is a great point. Sought after UDFAs have the luxury of picking the team they think they have the best chance with.
The talent wasn't there at OL
JohnVB : 4/30/2016 6:20 pm : link
At their picks. DL there was talent but they needed to find starters at a lot of positions, not depth.

i think that this implies something for which there are no supportive data.
For all the experts....
HoustonGiant : 4/30/2016 8:15 pm : link
Our OL is solid and our DL was hugely upgraded in FA. Good draft. Only pick I disliked was the S, but they went for a ball hawk, and not the freak Simmons.

If we sign Ochi in FA, I think we'll be all set.
I would have taken a DE
Glover : 4/30/2016 8:20 pm : link
Also would have had our other all pro Bookend to Flowers in Laremy Tunsil, but that is a moot point. So I might have taken a DE and an OT instead of a RB and a TE.
I'm very surprised
AP in Halfmoon : 4/30/2016 9:11 pm : link
I expected a project OL today
no UDFA OL drafted or signed
Steve in South Jersey : 4/30/2016 9:55 pm : link
convinces me that a veteran OL is on the way via signing or trade.
Getting Davis Somehow
HugeS : 4/30/2016 11:33 pm : link
Would plug the last big hole on the roster. Now we could probably get away with starting Jerry but the wildcard is Hart depending on where they slot him, RG or RT. Really think he has the potential to take the next step and surprise alot of people after working his tail off for the past year.
