I think it worked out great. Getting Apple gives us much better positional and overall improvement than the incremental increase of Conklin. Many were meh on Floyd so the secondary improvement is probably as good or better. Looking back I would bet we will say that we lucked into having to pick Apples
TE Cedrick Lang could project to tackle. He's 6'9'', 290lbs and some scouts think he is best suited to tackle. But he's very raw...former basketball player with only one year of football under his belt in college.
Milhouse couldn't be reached for comment Saturday. But Minter said he expected Milhouse to be selected in the seven-round draft.
I thought he'd go between the fifth and seventh,'' he said. But the thing with free agents is they can choose where they want to go. Greg had a relationship with the scout for the Giants. They went to church together when Greg was in middle school and high school. It's amazing how that came full circle. Greg had a lot of teams talking to him, but he decided to go with the Giants because he had a long-time friend there he can trust.''
2) This year's hot sleeper is Liberty QB Josh Woodrum.
Every year, teams try to target a late-round quarterback, a developmental prospect with a high ceiling. And the name that's come up more than any other when talking to teams this year has been Liberty's Josh Woodrum.
I have more work to do on Woodrum, as I've only seen him in one game so far, but watching him against West Virginia, I could see he's a big, strong kid with a live arm. Immediately, you can tell there's something there to work with.
I think several teams believe they're the only team on Woodrum, and there's a bit more of a crowd than they realize. He's kind of a buzz guy right now.
Draft breakdown having cut ups of players is a pretty good sign, in that they were at least scouted by someone outside of the team. KJ Maye - ( New Window )
Is that a lot of them are from smaller programs while no draft picks were from small programs. I like that they choose to "gamble" with the UDFA players.
A few of them are from major programs as well, but looking at the list it feels like they are being aggressive bringing in lesser known players scouts liked to training camp.
I like the competition this year at camp at TE, RB, WR and DB very much.

The post-draft signing frenzy brought the Giants the following players as undrafted free agents: CB Donte Deayon (Boise State), QB Josh Woodrum (Liberty), WR Roger Lewis (Bowling Green), CB Michael Hunter (Oklahoma State) WR K.J. Maye (Minnesota), DE Romeo Okwara (Notre Dame), DT Melvin Lewis (Kentucky), S Andrew Adams (UConn), TE Ryan Malleck (Virginia Tech), DT Greg Milhouse (Campbell) and WR Darius Powe (Cal)
is of course only secondarily responsible for why we dont have a RT. Reese and Ross are primarily responsible, since none of their day three OL ever produced anything. Petrus and Herman were admittedly guards. But at least one of Brewer, McCants, or Mosley should have become a serviceable RT. The player most likely to supplant Newhouse this year is Hart, a seventh round pick in his second year. We shouldnt have to count on that happening.
MY HOPE is that with a new OL coach here (Solari?), maybe
just maybe he can work with Hart and others and get more out of them. Late round picks have done nothing with
Flaherty here. I use to like Flaherty back in the day,
glad he is gone though. A couple were 4th rounders too,
you mentioned Brewer.
OL we get as a UDFA is better than anyone on the roster. The only way well get somebody better is if we trade for Davis. Reese brought a lot of veterans in to challenge Jerry and Newhouse, but they will probably be your opening day starters.
Not getting Conklin really messed up the OL. He was the only rookie who could have started at RT. Anyone else would need a year behind Newhouse. Tunsil cost himself $7M. He also cost us a RT. If that doesnt happen, Tennessee probably trades up for him, not Conklin. Then we get a RT.
Decker is better in pass-protection and the difference in run-blocking between Conklin and him will be negligable in a year. I thought Decker was better than Stanley. IMHO.

Reese brought in 3 guys who have been primarily on
practice squads and bouncing from one organization
to another right before the draft. I mean you actually
have to play some, to be at JAG level. The guy from Cleveland started a few games, LOL.

Solari has helped turned UDFA into pro bowlers and gotten first rounders to live up to their potential. I know everyone knows who Brian Winters, Casey Weigmann, and Alex Boone are but they were undrafted nobodies until Solari arrived. Also Joe Staley played the best football of his career when Solari arrived as well.

Wow? Did every other team sign them all?
We don't even have enough for depth, do we?
Gotta be 1 or 2 vets out there that will be signed.
As unlikely as it seems, maybe even WB when fully healed.

I am still stunned that Andrew Adams has received so little pre-draft hype. An athletic senior safety with his interception totals should have gotten more run than Adams has throughout this process. I still think he may end up finding a fit on a roster as a third safety, a la ex-Patriot James Sanders, who had a long, fulfilling career filling in gaps and serving as a spot starter. If Reggie McClain can get picked late, I think Adams has a shot of sliding into Round 7 as well. Perhaps the Panthers, the team that gave young Robert a chance way back when, and again this past season, will select Adams, who is earning some pub as a potential sleeper pick, as well. NFL.com's Chad Reuter has projected him going in the 6th round to the Dallas Cowboys.
that Reese will go with one of these UDFA on the roster if they outplay former draft picks like Thompson, Andre Williams, etc. I can't stand it when draft position is the determining factor in keeping a player. Andre Williams has shown that he just doesn't have the vision to be a good player in the NFL. Darkwa and even Rainey are better fits for this offense IMO.
