I understand not wanting to get tied down to long term contracts any longer and being fiscally prudent as was not the Yankee way under the dearly deceased George.
However, when you look at the monies they spent on Headley, Ellsbury, and McCann combined they don't add up to impact the best player they developed in many a year's Robbie Cano makes by his mere presence in the line up.
They should have given Cano his money and cut back on the years. Start integrating the younger players who have a lot more to prove and juice in their bones and rebuild from within. How are they ever going to learn to play at the major league level if not given the opportunity.
Refsnyder is like what happened to Joba. The kid has hit at every level as an outfielder. So they try to make him an infielder because of the money they gave Beltran and the loss of Cano. He did not impress enough in spring training and as result was sent back down.
The Yankee way of doing things right now is maddening. Chase Headley can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag and everytime the ball is hit his way you cringe. And he puts together terrible at bats. They have this Torreyes kid who puts together terrific at bats and plays well in the field. But he isn't getting paid 12 million a year so he sits. The Yankee way.

Jeez I realize Healey sucks but let's not act like Ronald Torreyes is the second coming of Graig Nettles. There's a reason why he was DFA'd by 3 different teams this offseason. He's a nice back-up infielder and nothing more.

Who cares? Headley is horrible. Give the kid a shot. Give anyone else a shot. Team is going nowhere.
You are missing the point. I'm not saying Torreyes is the next Nettles. But for crying out loud when he has been in he has shown he can be a pain in the ass and really battles at the plate. Headley has not come close to being the player they gave all that money and now they are stuck with him for another two fucking years too boot.
I say fuck the money. Let Torreyes play until he shows he is not a better option. The other reason the Yankees give Headley so much rope is because he's a switch hitter. He stinks. If they can't see they made a huge mistake by now then you have to wonder is there any hope for this organization moving forward.

Exactly. Just like the Red Sox did with Panda, they gave Shaw the job in the middle of spring training and said fuck the money, Yankees won't have the balls to do that. And Shaw is batting over .300.. Yankees will continue to play this worthless bum 5 days a week, then Girardi will say in his press conferences it's still early he's hitting the ball hard to smh.
continues to get treated with kid gloves is shocking to me. A $200mm+ payroll, no development of young players, what has he done more than anyone else could have done with that amount of money?
