All these weapons. It's so early, but take a shot ...

Beezer : 5/2/2016 12:20 pm
at predicting who the Giants have on opening day.

Here's my opening salvo.

RBs (Assuming they keep 4)
1. Jennings
2. Darkwa
3. Perkins
4. Vereen
5. Flip a coin on Whitlock and Johnson. I'd give the edge to Johnson here, simply based on W's injury, and the fact they brought Johnson in.

(I think Rainey is camp fodder. Hard to tell about Williams. He's only 24, so how camp goes will be huge for him. Could he stick while Darkwa goes? Darkwa's done everything that's been asked of him, and he's had some good looks.)

WRs (Assuming they keep 6?)
1. OBJ
2. Cruz (fingers crossed for good health)
3. Shepard
4. Harris (STs)
5. Dable (I'm an optimist)
6. Maye (just a feeling - no height but could be another dynamic weapon - seems like a kid who will be balls out from the get-go - could be a ST warrior)

TEs (Assuming they keep 3?
1. Tye (showed well enough that he should be able to be the 1)
2. Adams (optimistic)
3. LaCosse (more optimism)

(Lang is intriguing. Basketball player? 6'9" 290 at the end of the line? Jesus H Christ. Should be interesting. I don't see Donnell sticking anymore. Just too much upside coming in the door.)

Fire away. I may have the numbers wrong. What's your list of weapons look like today?

... then added the FB spot. Have to believe Mac keeps a big H-back/FB type on the roster and that guy doubles on STs.
I wonder if the Giants will carry

only 3 RB's in order to keep an extra DL, S, or LB. If they cut Rainey or Darkwa there is a decent chance at least one of them won't be signed by another team allowing the Giants to add them in the event of an injury. As for Lang he is an exciting UDFA but he will not make the team and will likely have to spend at least one year on the practice squad. 2-3 years if he is moved to OT but if he is hopefully he is the next Jason Peters.

Of the free agent WR's, I'm most interest in seeing more of Roger Lewis.

I would also think that Geremy Davis has inside track over Dable - who we know nothing about.
I would be shocked
Jay on the Island : 5/2/2016 12:25 pm : link
if the Giants went with that much inexperience at the TE position. I think Donnell is safe as long as he is fully recovered from injury.
I'll play
ZogZerg : 5/2/2016 12:26 pm : link
RB = Jennings, Vereen, Perkins, Williams
FB = Pick one (probably Johnson)
WR - Bechman, Crus, Harris, Shepard, Davis, White
TE = Tye, Adams, Bryce Williams ;)
...
Toth029 : 5/2/2016 12:27 pm : link
I see Davis or White, perhaps both, making it. Davis is a ST ace and will get more opportunities receiving.
Even though it looks to be leaning toward

a pass-happy offense, it's still tough for me to accept that they'd go with three halfbacks. I think you have to go with Jennings as your 1, the way he topped off last season. Perkins seems to be a given, barring catastrophe (physical, or otherwise). And Vereen is a potent multi-faceted back who's not going anywhere.

Can they go with just the one "horse" and a rookie? Vereen can carry the football, but I doubt they'd want him shouldering a ton of carries, even in a pinch, should Jennings get dinged (always a possibility).

Gotta go with 4?
Donnell's health could be a factor.
Matt M. : 5/2/2016 12:28 pm : link
I didn't realize he had broken a bone in his neck. He may say he's fine, but getting hit on the field may tell otherwise. Either way, Tye is a lock, in my opinion. I think Adams has an excellent shot because of his size and blocking. If Donnell is truly healthy, it makes the decision for the 3rd spot (not necessarily depth chart #3, but just the roster spot) more interesting. I'm also optimistic about LaCosse. I liked when we signed him last year, but that also had a lot to do with who we had on our roster as well.

Personally, I really like Tye and what he showed in the second half of the year. I really like the idea of a combination of him and Adams.
Eric, Davis has size and a little experience now,
Beezer : 5/2/2016 12:28 pm : link
which helps his case.

As for Dable
Matt M. : 5/2/2016 12:29 pm : link
You think he makes the roster over Davis? He seems destined for the practice squad, if anything. He was a nice shot in the dark a couple of months ago. But, after the draft and first wave of UDFA, we already have guys better than him.
Don't know a thing about him yet ...
Beezer : 5/2/2016 12:31 pm : link
but if Maye could be a ST gunner ... ahhhh, now you've got to look at him differently. a 5-8, 194-pound missile who's fearless as F?
Matt,
Beezer : 5/2/2016 12:32 pm : link
I DID say I was being an optimist about Dable. The realist in me says Davis has the inside track. I'm hoping Dable comes in and gives them no option.
I think they keep
Lionhart28 : 5/2/2016 12:54 pm : link
Whitlock and 3 TEs plus Johnson.

Johnson is an H-back and a bit of a hybrid between the two. Whitlock can play FB, DT and is good on specials. Those guys both have a ton of value.
Donnell will make the team
Simms11 : 5/2/2016 1:04 pm : link
provided he is healthy. He's got good hands and is of great value on the goal-line and inside the 20. I think Tye and Adams are more valuable in the middle of the field and down the seams.

Not sure how they keep Whitlock, Johnson AND three TEs.
My RBs
Peter from NH (formerly CT) : 5/2/2016 1:25 pm : link
RB = Jennings, Vereen, Perkins, Marshaun Coprich
Don't fully discount
Dirt1 : 5/2/2016 1:41 pm : link
Bryce Williams, UDFA, at TE. GBN had him ranked as the 133 player on their board. Maybe practice squad.
I like Malleck
BigBlueDownTheShore : 5/2/2016 2:25 pm : link
As the 3rd blocking TE option. He was injured a few times inn college, but he is really good when healthy and good throwing option.
5 FAs to watch
Hot Rod in Florida : 5/2/2016 7:55 pm : link
1) M. Coprich RB. Pretty good runner could replace Darkwa and/or Williams.

2) R. Lewis WR - He had a lot of deep TDs. Could beat out White or Davis.

3) D. Powe WR - He's 6'3" 220 with 4.49 speed. We don't have anyone with that size, except Dable, so he's got a chance.

4) R. Mallech TE - Since he allowed 0 pressures (that's better than 0 sacks), he certainly has a chance to be our best blocking TE and has good speed (4.75) as well. Assuming Tye and Adams are safe, he could be the 3rd or 4th guy.

5) M. Rose DE - Size, speed prospect (6'2" 281 4.66) who gets after the QB, which is something the Giants didn't do much of last year, so he could very well catch on.
I would probably keep 7 WR
Steve in South Jersey : 5/2/2016 8:03 pm : link
because I have no faith in Cruz's health holding up.
do the Giants retain a FB?
Gross Blau Oberst : 5/4/2016 10:47 am : link
or as part of the McAdoo offense is the FB phased out in favour of a hybrid TE?
