OL scouting & development consultant on Slauson: He can ball

Would the Giants, after not selecting an offensive lineman in the 2016 NFL Draft, make a serious run at the 6-foot-5, 320-pound 30-year-old?

Offensive Line Scouting and Development consultant Duke Manyweather, who co-hosts the Block 'Em Up podcast [iTunes link] with former Giants lineman Geoff Schwartz, thinks they should.

"He can ball!!! Played C/LG last year ... Was probably the most steady on their OL. Didn't miss a snap! True pro! If I'm the Giants I'm calling him now," Manyweather said.

The Bears decided to move on from Slauson after selecting Kansas State guard Cody Whitehair in the second round of the draft.

Slauson was the 13th-ranked guard in the NFL last season in Bleacher Report's positional rankings.

In pass protection, B/R's summary said that "In terms of combining physical abilities (like strength, power and body control) with a skill set built on fundamentals, it gets no better than Matt Slauson."

In run-blocking, that same summary opined that "Slauson engages quickly out of his stance in the run game, gaining hand placement to leverage defenders with hip explosion. He shows tremendous square power, generated through his base, to consistently move the point of attack."

A quality OL man. The real question is what are the Giants plan for Hart?

Can he play RT.
Can Slauson play RT or RG

Sure wish I knew what the Giant have planned for the O-line
If Gmen sign him

but from a fan's perspective, I don't see a downside. He recently turned 30 and is a warrior..2-4 years would be optimal to me, imv
this would put Hart on bench

which, I'd doubt at this time
John Jerry is currently the starter at RG.
est1986 : 5/2/2016 7:21 pm : link
Hart is competing with Newhouse and Jerry for either spot on the right I would think.
I think they like Hart at RT.
drkenneth : 5/2/2016 7:22 pm : link
He's got the size, and starters 28 games at RT for a big time program.

It's not a stretch. They just need to pair Hart with a vet, don't care if that's a RG or RT.

Slauson makes sense.

Hart's already on the bench. He's not a starter. Just another backup so far, albeit with a little upside.
And: Hart is only 21.

Solari is gonna be a big coaching hire, not sure why his name doesn't come up more.

Move Pugh back to RT and pencil this guy into LG
There's a new OL coach
KeoweeFan : 5/2/2016 7:48 pm : link
If Slauson is a "player", with vet experience, put him in the mix.
Shake the ingredients early in camp, and then line them up in what ever turns out to be the best line. No "guaranteed" spots.
Unhappy?; go complain to TC and Pat Flahrety.
Hart is 2nd string RT, Cleary has been getting time as 2nd string RG
Mason : 5/2/2016 8:52 pm : link
In the voluntary team workouts. Doesn't mean much but he seems to be strictly working out at RT. Listening to both McAdoo and Reese they both singled out Hart as in competition for starting RT with Newhouse.
Going over Raanan first day reports I was wrong
Mason : 5/2/2016 8:58 pm : link
Hart saw time at RG on the first day. Farrell was at LG 2nd team first day.

It's only our solution if Pugh moves back to RT, because Slauson is a LG.
RG is going to be Hart's best spot..
arcarsenal : 5/2/2016 9:26 pm : link
But I wouldn't totally rule out his ability to play RT. It's probably not ideal but I think he can hold his own there.

Other than he is a proven high performer with years of experience what doesn't make sense? If Hart is any good he will find his way onto the field. But for now you go with proven above average NFL talent. If the guys was hurt and 34 it would be one thing, but from what I have read many thought he was the Bears best OL last year. He should have multiple years left and as a cap cut should come cheaper than where he would otherwise. This is the biggest no brainer of the off season.
I believe Slauson played RG for NY Jets

We needs a power Guard. This would be a solid addition.

He's a baller, he's seldom hurt, The Bears have plenty of cap room.

Something's not right. Before the rookie comes to camp, before you have any idea how he's going to adjust to the pro game you don't - at least it seems to me - go out and throw away a top starter.

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

makes no sense....something is up w/the guy....don't get excited if the Giants bring him in...my guess is he doesn't pass the physical
jeez, no one mentioned the old Johnny Carson bit?

The Slauson Cutoff, where they cut off your Slauson
Slauson would fix the problem at RG - quietly and without fanfare

Different position RG/RT but I think of Karl Nelson. Not much spectacular, no pancakes etc., just a guy doing his job and not breaking down.

Bring Slauson back to New Jersey
TheShade : 5/3/2016 10:35 pm : link
He was good with the Jets so why not bring him back to the area and give him a starting job. A good player who is versatile at BOTH (not just 1 aspect) run and pass blocking would be a welcomed veteran presence on a youthful Giants O-Line.
