Would the Giants, after not selecting an offensive lineman in the 2016 NFL Draft, make a serious run at the 6-foot-5, 320-pound 30-year-old? Offensive Line Scouting and Development consultant Duke Manyweather, who co-hosts the Block 'Em Up podcast [iTunes link] with former Giants lineman Geoff Schwartz, thinks they should. "He can ball!!! Played C/LG last year ... Was probably the most steady on their OL. Didn't miss a snap! True pro! If I'm the Giants I'm calling him now," Manyweather said. The Bears decided to move on from Slauson after selecting Kansas State guard Cody Whitehair in the second round of the draft. |
Slauson was the 13th-ranked guard in the NFL last season in Bleacher Report's positional rankings.
In pass protection, B/R's summary said that "In terms of combining physical abilities (like strength, power and body control) with a skill set built on fundamentals, it gets no better than Matt Slauson."
In run-blocking, that same summary opined that "Slauson engages quickly out of his stance in the run game, gaining hand placement to leverage defenders with hip explosion. He shows tremendous square power, generated through his base, to consistently move the point of attack."
I think of Clausen pickles. I would nt be the least upset if Reese signed him.
Can he play RT.
Can Slauson play RT or RG
Sure wish I knew what the Giant have planned for the O-line
Unless they like Hart @ RT.

which wouldn't make sense imho
Unless they like Hart @ RT.
which, I'd doubt at this time
It's not a stretch. They just need to pair Hart with a vet, don't care if that's a RG or RT.
Slauson makes sense.
Hart's already on the bench. He's not a starter. Just another backup so far, albeit with a little upside.

Move Pugh back to RT and pencil this guy into LG
Shake the ingredients early in camp, and then line them up in what ever turns out to be the best line. No "guaranteed" spots.
Unhappy?; go complain to TC and Pat Flahrety.
It's only our solution if Pugh moves back to RT, because Slauson is a LG.
Other than he is a proven high performer with years of experience what doesn't make sense? If Hart is any good he will find his way onto the field. But for now you go with proven above average NFL talent. If the guys was hurt and 34 it would be one thing, but from what I have read many thought he was the Bears best OL last year. He should have multiple years left and as a cap cut should come cheaper than where he would otherwise. This is the biggest no brainer of the off season.
Something's not right. Before the rookie comes to camp, before you have any idea how he's going to adjust to the pro game you don't - at least it seems to me - go out and throw away a top starter.

makes no sense....something is up w/the guy....don't get excited if the Giants bring him in...my guess is he doesn't pass the physical
I believe so..Always good to see you Bob..Hope all is well
