Harvey day! Can he keep it going after a much better effort his last time out??

Wright still tinkering with stance. Getting results.

Duda could be on the verge of a huge year.

Harper wins player of the month over Conforto.
Facing the Braves lineup
Jay on the Island : 5/3/2016 11:49 am : link
filled with mostly AAAA players is a great way to boost ones confidence.
Just hoping they get the game in tonight
gmen9892 : 5/3/2016 11:58 am : link
If Harvey is really coming around, he should be able to go 7+ innings with > 3 runs allowed against the lineup.
For me...
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2016 11:59 am : link
I want to see Harvey flash north of 95 again and show control of all 4 pitches. If he does that he can be facing the Memphis Kazoos for all I care. We all know what Harvey is capable of. He's been out of sorts mechanically until last week so most of us just want to see a continuation of that.

doesn't sound that wild about Edgin joining them soon lol

MMO-Edgin, 29, must be activated from the disabled list by this Sunday when his 30 day rehab expires. It is widely expected that he will be optioned to Las Vegas so that he could get more innings under his belt.

“Velocity is supposed to edge up a little bit and move up. Is he going to get back fully to when we first saw him? I’m not sure,” Terry Collins said Monday. “He’s been pitching OK.”
This sounds impossible

It truly is pathetic. Inciarte's return will help the offense but he has little power as well. Atlanta is in a tough spot come draft day. They desperately need a power bat but it is looking likely that LHP Groome will be there at #3 and he is too good to pass up.

Where would Edgin fit?

I consider him clearly the thrird lefty even if he's AMAZING in Vegas. He's going to have a hard time cracking the roster.

Lol. No your right. It does. I was more making a separate point that he literally has no chance of making the team even if he looked "amazing". He's a AAA insurance policy just like Goeddel and Gilmartin. Sorry for the confusion.
Gotta

I look at it like Gilmartin is now Verrett's backup. Goeddel is probably the first call if Henderson, Reed, or Robles got hurt. Edgin will be Bastardo and Blevins back up. What will become real interesting to me is what happens when Wheeler returns and they go 6 man twice through. Verrett back to AAA? Longs ways off I guess....

Yup. Last start he was hitting 96/97. Way down from that. Not sure what is up. Oh well at least he got out of that.
I do wonder if it eats him up that he's now the
PhiPsi125 : 5/3/2016 7:42 pm : link
number 4 starter on the staff.

It's hard to put your finger on what's going on with him. He just hasn't looked like "Harvey" at all. Not even once.
I still think its mechanics...
ZGiants98 : 5/3/2016 7:45 pm : link
I heard from somebody who works with the team it could be his offseason regimen. He essentially rehabs ALL offseason last year in preparation of 2015 coming back from Tommy John. He may have been heavier but his core/arm were in great shape. This year he had off all offseason and this person said his core looks weak and he's not in "game shape yet".

I don't know. Its also cold and he had an IV plugged into him two hours ago.

I know it sounds like excuses and I get that but what's the alternative? He sucks all of the sudden? I don't think Im ready to go there yet.
Harvey isn't fooling any hitter tonight. They are all over him.
PhiPsi125 : 5/3/2016 7:53 pm : link

Well, I don't know what it is about Harvey that's off. I don't think
PhiPsi125 : 5/3/2016 7:58 pm : link
anybody thinks he just "sucks" now (at least not genuinely I'd think). I am tired of the excuses for all his bad outings, but whatever. I think this is the second time he's "sick" this year. But that's just me. If it's crappy off season conditioning then thats just disappointing.

In any even, we know what Harvey can do so let's just hope that Warthen can help him figure it out.

He looked good in Spring Training. One has to wonder if he had something other than just a bladder infection. How do you go from having arguably the best stuff in baseball to a guy that would probably be sent to AAA if he was a prospect with options. Teams are hitting over .400 against him with RISP. And he's really only faced one good lineup

Awful. Dan and I both said it. He should have started in AAA. He was rushed through there last year and never even conquered Vegas. Defensively, his throws have been pretty bad the last few days anyway. Get well soon TDA.

I don't know. Others disagree. I am hanging my hat on his last outing against the Reds. His velocity was back to 2015 levels, his Ks were up, and his walks were down. That doesn't excuse how bad he's been so far though. Every other start has been pretty bad.

At one point last year Wisler was the Braves #1 prospect. That was before the draft and before several trades but he isn't some nobody if that makes you feel better. Wisler has the potential to be a great #3 pitcher. He has been very inconsistent prior to his last two starts.

Harvey

has lost control of his pitches. He hasn't close to the command he's had previously. Pitches are all over the place, in the dirt way high. His pitches aren't missing by a little.

4/22 vs Atl he only walked 1 but it took him 101 pitches to get thru 5.0 innings.

4/27 vs Cin he only walked 1 but it took him 102 pitches to get thru 6.0 innings.

Tonight he only walked 2 but it took him 101 pitches to get thru 5.2 innings.

By comparison, last night against this same team Colon went 8.0 innings, walked 0 and threw just 99 pitches.

My 2 cents.

Im sorry he struggled in his last start

While I agree with you Colon is a pitch to contact type of guy. A lot of our strikeout pitchers will have high counts in the 6th simply BECAUSE they are striking guys out. I wouldn't compare this start to the Cincinnati one at all either. Its night and day for me. He was awful tonight. Im praying its because he's sick as shit because tonight was embarrassing. But this is from a real pitching coach who has ties to the Mets organization....

"Glad I don't have you as my coach, or someone I would rely upon as being a talent evaluator. Shiznet happens and these things do happen. Pitching is about confidence, as is just about everything in baseball, and he is lacking that element. My sincere suggestion to Matt...stop the routine and just take a few days off. It's not going to hurt anything that he is doing or wants to do...just shut it down for 3 days."

#Phillies beat #STLCards 1-0. Lead the majors with 6 shutouts. The young starters are legit.

You could tell Harvey was just mentally out of sorts towards the end of his outing especially. He was spiking throws, throwing out of frustration and missing spots.. something's just bugging the guy and no one seems to have any idea what it is. Hopefully someone gets to the bottom of it because we need him to pitch like himself again if we want this season to end the way we're all hoping.
This is basically Wild Thing's story arc from Major League 2

Somebody's gotta get harvey away from his model girlfriends and endorsement deals and get him his old leather vest again.

night for Mets non-pitching prospects. I'll wait for the DMM thread, but Herrera, Nimmo, Cecchini, Rivera, Domo, Becerra with big nights.

the Mets could survive a 2 week Harvey DL stint and put Verrett in the rotation.

This was an old Larry Lucchino Red Sox trick, he'd systematically place all his starting pitchers on the DL (except Wakefield) at various times during the season to keep them somewhat fresh.
