as a compliment to Eric's Leon Hall thread, the reason Reese brought him in is that he is nervous about our corners. Pretty much explains the Apple pick. Now I'm nervous.
As mentioned in the 5:29 Eric thread, Hall left yesterday w/o a contract.
“Going into this draft it didn’t look like we had enough corners back there that had enough experience,” Reese said on WFAN. “We didn’t have a lot of proven guys back there. That always makes you nervous because in this league you throw the ball a lot.”
Along with Rodgers-Cromartie, Jenkins and now Apple, the Giants also have Trevin Wade, Leon McFadden and Tramain Jacobs. But Hall, who spent nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals, mostly as a starter, would be an obvious upgrade. Lonk - (
New Window )
But it seems like they have made great strides this off season. So much so that I anticipate an exciting season with the Giants serious contenders for the NFC East late into the season. Wouldn't t a meaningful game late
In the year with the Giants actually playing well with a winning record be great after the last : seasons.
For me the journey of a season with good games to
Look forward to is what the NFL is all about. Sometimes that journey ends in a Super Bowl victory and that is special
The Giants secondary on paper is lightyears better than last year. Nothing to be nervous about, IMO. Lets hope there aren't any big injuries this year.
Hall apparently is not quite ready to pass his physical and Powers is still most likely in contract la la land..There will be others to bring in when they realize, "hey, I need a job," so the due diligence will continue
I've seen it all now.
jenkins and DRC also carry some injury risks ,especially DRC who was dinged upall last year and missed some time as well and they need some more veterans around apple to learn from. as he was very grab happy in college and nfl refs will flag him all day
he will see action in the slot and will play alot of starting CB in preseason where they figure to get the flags out the way early in preseason and get him game ready that way
they still need at least 1 more CB possibly 2 if they can find an upgrade over mcbride but powers might still be an option if he wasnt signed already? which i havent seen he has so far
Reality is, if the opposing QB has all day to pass, there isn't a secondary in the NFL which can cover that good!
Committing the resources they did to Jenkins and Apple weren't the most efficient moves, but they needed to do something to change the numbers at that position and they got 2 supremely talented players with clean health records.
Um, those were Reese's words... Ohh know ! might be chink in the Giants 18-0 run this year.
I love what they have done so far, but now its time to fill the remaining pieces before September. I am semi-confident they will. Our 3rd DE/LB pass rusher is Odi. There is no way you can count on him. And the 3rd DT is Bromley. I am nervous heading into the season relying on those players.

Must you comprehend everything I do?
Let me explain, no, there is too much, let me sum up:
It's interesting that Reese has made it clear that oft injured players or injury risks are no longer an option here, yet he brings in Leon Hall, with various injuries in the past and an injury concern presently, to presumably start in front of Eli Apple while the kid acclimates.
He states that he is nervous about our corners, for those that find that "ridiculous", read the quote, the man plainly says he is nervous. So nervous that he brings in a injury risk vet when he has cleaned out and avoided injury risks in cuts, free agency and the draft. That makes me nervous.
Also, the article mentions our corners, helpful to those that don't study the roster, makes it easier to understand what somebody is talking about if you know who somebody is talking about.
Unless I missed something, these are his feelings as of a Monday radio interview, not from before free agency, can you explain that statement you made? Touché'
How'd I do?

Firstly, these were his feelings BEFORE FA and the draft (even if he's expressing them recently)..We have upgraded in that area and will continue the due diligence. Of course better play from the front 7 should help as well..

You were much more effective with the Flight Attendants
Isn't he like 5'8" ?! Might play bigger, but doesn't have the typical size of an NFL CB.
Bingo. Couple that with DRC unable to pass concussion protocol. Hosley was the best option at corner for that week. And he actually did a good job. McBride was awful though.
Reese said he was nervous before the draft about the CBs. It's a quote for God's sake.
I suppose people are hung up on the word "nervous," but I doubt Reese is cowering under his desk, biting his nails and sweating profusely. He's concerned about the depth at CB and rightfully so.
That said it has no impact om evaluating our draft as the Giants passed on most peoples highly regarded top CB Hargeaves as they preferred Eli Apple.
The guy was a musician. His death, while tragic, had NO IMPACT on the Giants. Stick to football.

Some posters kind of ran with the sound byte out of context, no?
