Reese nervous about our corners

Cruzin : 5/4/2016 7:22 am
as a compliment to Eric's Leon Hall thread, the reason Reese brought him in is that he is nervous about our corners. Pretty much explains the Apple pick. Now I'm nervous.

As mentioned in the 5:29 Eric thread, Hall left yesterday w/o a contract.

“Going into this draft it didn’t look like we had enough corners back there that had enough experience,” Reese said on WFAN. “We didn’t have a lot of proven guys back there. That always makes you nervous because in this league you throw the ball a lot.”

Along with Rodgers-Cromartie, Jenkins and now Apple, the Giants also have Trevin Wade, Leon McFadden and Tramain Jacobs. But Hall, who spent nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals, mostly as a starter, would be an obvious upgrade.

Wanting to add talent doesn't mean he is nervous
BillT : 5/4/2016 7:32 am : link
That's ridiculous. It means he wats to add talent just like he does at every position. And wanting to add talent is only something he says over and over and over.
LOL!

I have a feeling in this league everyone is nervous about having enough corners.

Isn't Hall coming off back surgery?

If I'm G.M. I would be highly skeptical that we could get anything out of him this season. Of course team doctors will influence any decision.

with Dallas (and a presumably healthy Romo), the Saints, and Redskins. All QBs who torched the Giants last year. How much fun was it watching Wade chase around Saints when Brees was throwing 6 TDs? Yes, the pass rush will help, but when you have special teamers trying to play defense, you need more talent out there. The Giants are doing exactly what they should be doing, overhauling this defense.

The Giants have been a very bad team for 2 plus seasons. Very difficult it to overnight become a Super Bowl contender

But it seems like they have made great strides this off season. So much so that I anticipate an exciting season with the Giants serious contenders for the NFC East late into the season. Wouldn't t a meaningful game late
In the year with the Giants actually playing well with a winning record be great after the last : seasons.

For me the journey of a season with good games to
Look forward to is what the NFL is all about. Sometimes that journey ends in a Super Bowl victory and that is special
The key for the season is staying healthy
rasbutant : 5/4/2016 8:41 am : link
They can win with the starters in place. But they are in trouble with the depth if they start losing people like the last couple years.
why would this make you nervous?
UConn4523 : 5/4/2016 8:43 am : link
Reese, and likely every other GM out there knows how important having a wealth of talent in the secondary is in this new NFL that has been created. Outside of 1 or 2 teams, I think most in the league would want to be as deep as possible at CB. Doesn't mean they are "nervous" it means they are trying to prepare.

The Giants secondary on paper is lightyears better than last year. Nothing to be nervous about, IMO. Lets hope there aren't any big injuries this year.
Rock, not understanding your thread start or the purpose of it.

Firstly, these were his feelings BEFORE FA and the draft (even if he's expressing them recently)..We have upgraded in that area and will continue the due diligence. Of course better play from the front 7 should help as well..

Hall apparently is not quite ready to pass his physical and Powers is still most likely in contract la la land..There will be others to bring in when they realize, "hey, I need a job," so the due diligence will continue
I also think

we will add pieces before the season starts.

I think he has a hip issue if I recall correctly.
Then he must have been on medication last year
DavidinBMNY : 5/4/2016 9:10 am : link
Because 1-3 are upgraded. Being worried about the 4th CB is a much higher class problem then last year.
Our depth at CB

Killed us when Prince went down.
even after apple
msh : 5/4/2016 10:01 am : link
they still needed a CB,they lost prince and dont want hosley back, trumanie mcbride was one of the few bright spots in the secondry last season but went down to injury too

jenkins and DRC also carry some injury risks ,especially DRC who was dinged upall last year and missed some time as well and they need some more veterans around apple to learn from. as he was very grab happy in college and nfl refs will flag him all day

he will see action in the slot and will play alot of starting CB in preseason where they figure to get the flags out the way early in preseason and get him game ready that way

they still need at least 1 more CB possibly 2 if they can find an upgrade over mcbride but powers might still be an option if he wasnt signed already? which i havent seen he has so far
Actually Rolle

Reality is, if the opposing QB has all day to pass, there isn't a secondary in the NFL which can cover that good!
He is correct - DRC has gotten banged up the last 2 years
Eric on Li : 5/4/2016 10:13 am : link
Hosley and Prince were both guys who got injured frequently. Thurmond didn't pan out. Zack Bowman was making career decisions. Bennett Jackson got hurt. Trevin Wade and Trumaine McBride were nice stories but they're far from difference makers.

Committing the resources they did to Jenkins and Apple weren't the most efficient moves, but they needed to do something to change the numbers at that position and they got 2 supremely talented players with clean health records.

Um, those were Reese's words... Ohh know ! might be chink in the Giants 18-0 run this year.
I think we need depth at a few D positions...
GuzzaBlue : 5/4/2016 10:55 am : link
CB, Pass Rush, Interior.

I love what they have done so far, but now its time to fill the remaining pieces before September. I am semi-confident they will. Our 3rd DE/LB pass rusher is Odi. There is no way you can count on him. And the 3rd DT is Bromley. I am nervous heading into the season relying on those players.

Must you comprehend everything I do?

Let me explain, no, there is too much, let me sum up:

It's interesting that Reese has made it clear that oft injured players or injury risks are no longer an option here, yet he brings in Leon Hall, with various injuries in the past and an injury concern presently, to presumably start in front of Eli Apple while the kid acclimates.

He states that he is nervous about our corners, for those that find that "ridiculous", read the quote, the man plainly says he is nervous. So nervous that he brings in a injury risk vet when he has cleaned out and avoided injury risks in cuts, free agency and the draft. That makes me nervous.

Also, the article mentions our corners, helpful to those that don't study the roster, makes it easier to understand what somebody is talking about if you know who somebody is talking about.

Unless I missed something, these are his feelings as of a Monday radio interview, not from before free agency, can you explain that statement you made? Touché'

How'd I do?
Jerry nervous.
chiefmps : 5/4/2016 11:20 am : link
With the Giants not making the playoff for a few seasons now Jerry is more likely nervous about his job. Jerry still needs to address the need for the offensive line, and adding more help in the secondary will also be a good move. This is still more work that needs to be done before the season begins. Yes, Jerry has a lot to be nervous about.

Isn't he like 5'8" ?! Might play bigger, but doesn't have the typical size of an NFL CB.

Bingo. Couple that with DRC unable to pass concussion protocol. Hosley was the best option at corner for that week. And he actually did a good job. McBride was awful though.

Reese said he was nervous before the draft about the CBs. It's a quote for God's sake.
I'd rather have a nervous GM than a contented one.
Klaatu : 5/4/2016 12:03 pm : link
And it's no secret that JR was looking for a CB before the draft (Powers), and now after the draft (Hall). I hope he stays nervous and keeps looking. I don't see what the big deal is.

I suppose people are hung up on the word "nervous," but I doubt Reese is cowering under his desk, biting his nails and sweating profusely. He's concerned about the depth at CB and rightfully so.
I'm nervous about our CB's...
Torrag : 5/4/2016 12:06 pm : link
...if we suffer an injury to our top 3 Trevin Wade will get significant snaps. That's a problem.

That said it has no impact om evaluating our draft as the Giants passed on most peoples highly regarded top CB Hargeaves as they preferred Eli Apple.
