“Eli was offered Rolex watches and diamonds to wear on draft day,” Annie Apple wrote. “I told him, ‘Dude, you’re an unemployed college dropout. You will not be on TV with a Rolex.’ So we decided if he needed to know what time it was, he could just look at his phone. I bought him a portable charger.” |
:)
this is a kid who's mom keeps bringing him down to earth!!!

You mean Eli isn't buying her a mansion yet?
Stepfather. Though it seems he might as well be his father. Looks like a fine family. He just doesn't have a twitter presence.
Your son is employed now. Take a step back and relax.
Good for her, keep the kid grounded.
This has nothing to do with being a parent and everything to do with seeking out some celebrity for herself.

She has been tweeting for years. maybe she just enjoys it like we enjoy posting on this site

And still keep your kid grounded without having to tweet every brain fart out to the masses. Most of us do it day in and day out.

Yeah I read she already had a large following long before the draft. She didn't just start in order to piggyback on his NFL success.
Safe to say she didn't take to it seeking out celebrity because of Eli's success.

It is inadvertently going to create a spotlight on her son and a possible distraction. She needs to back off a bit at this point and let Eli develop without the added scrutiny

BINGO! she needs to just stop at this point.
Annie should have an open office desk at the training center.
I for one, believe she is just as intimidating in person as she is on Twitter!
She seems like a great mom and I doubt Eli would want to shut down his mother in doing something she obviously has a passion for. I bet he is proud that more people are becoming aware of her abilities, humor, and wisdom.
She's been on Social Media prior to anyone knowing about her son. She been a blogger covering various topics from lifestyles, relationships, to sports and politics. So like it or not, I suspect will see more articles about her son's experiences as a professional athlete. It fits with the type of stories she writes about. Link to her website.

I still think that is my favorite BBI line of all time. And there have been a bunch of good ones.
Millions of readers who follow my blog religiously have asked, “Why don’t you blog about your son who plays football for Ohio State.” Okay, it’s more like 23 faithful readers of my blog. But if I had a million readers, I’m sure one or two would ask that. I do blog indirectly about my kids, especially when I’m discussing the joys and tortures of motherhood.
My husband and I are the proud parents of four very different kids: three sons, ages 24, 21 and Eli is 19. We have a daughter (a future litigator) who is almost 14. Our kids are all gifted and kind people. None of them are perfect and are still growing into the men and woman God has equipped and gifted them to be. But no, I haven’t dedicated a full blog post to our 19 year old son, Eli Apple, starting cornerback for the Ohio State.

Some of us are also tired of some of your posts. That doesn't stop you, either.

Let it be about the kid himself and not his mom...I get it she's funny and sassy but lets make it about Eli Apple and not his quirky mom. That is the only point I am making about it
Oh please spare me your nonsense. You like it fine, I do to a degree but not every fucking day that's my view and blow me if you don't like my opinion about it
Where did anyone tell her that she needs to stop? She can do whatever she damn pleases. I also have the right to think it's lame.
Example #2:
You have every right to have a meltdown on draft day over the size and definition of a grown man's, and thereby project a career trajectory based on said calves.
And I reserve the right to think you're a fucking halfwit.
Get it?

So you have a woman who is a wife and mother who has been tweeting since her son Eli was thirteen years old and apparently has a following in her own right has to stop because her son got drafted?

I still think Eli probably has no issues with her tweeting about their family but I can appreciate your point of view.

But wait you don't "Contribute"...LMAO what a fucking absurd delusional take on the situation.
I will archive this post and break it back out later in the season at the appropriate time Dave, you may then admit I was right when i do that buddy..

Great analogy, hit it out of the park with that one
Maybe I jumped the gun a bit about it getting a bit silly hearing about her tweets, but the main jist here is that we have heard more about her then the kid we drafted over the last few days. I want to hear from Eli himself, i want to hear his take on things, his views on what he brings to the team and where his head is at. She is a great mom and its pretty cool she has developed a following of her own, but at some point this will be a distraction if it continues. I hope it becomes an interesting sidebar to Eli Apple himself and not a factor in everything we hear about him.
As I said we will see and I will be either be saying "Dammit Dave you were correct", or vice versa okay?
Inevitably, this is going to turn into a "STFU ANNEI APPEL!!!" type of deal as time goes on. Guarantee it.

You nailed it
So Annie Apple spoiler are not allowed?
Got it

is that she has her own twitter account and those that like her can follow her and those that don't, don't. And BBI as a whole need not follow her (nor need the NYPost, etc) because those who care are already in the know. So, no real need to re-post every missive with breathless gasps and doe eyes. (But probably no big whoop for anyone if somebody does choose to do that).

I think what Montana and I are getting at, is that it isn't about the content of her tweets.
She didn't say anything wrong. Nor anything groundbreaking. I think most of have at some point questioned, and giggled in front of our television sets during draft day at some of these gaudy, blinged-out cartoon characters. Particularly considering the fact that they haven't signed a pro contract yet.
But we've just drafted a first round CB in the top 10 of the NFL draft and we've had more threads linking to comments from the kid's mother than from whom we drafted. I think it's more of a criticism of posters here than the woman herself.
You guys turn on players at the drop of a hat. It takes 1 missed play for the mob to default to STFU APPEL!!
I demand answers.
