Melo to the Lakers? Colin Cowherd claims the Lakers plan on trading their first rounder (even if they win the lottery) because they are tired of rebuilding and want to trade for a superstar. If the Lakers have dreams of signing Durant (he reportedly wanted to play with the Lakers until Kobe decided to retire)or even Lebron then dealing the pick in exchange for Melo. Supposedly part of the sales pitch to Walton was the fact they would be big game hunting and add stars. The guy in Metro suggested Russell and the pick for Melo. Yes please.

just the #1 pick and a contract dump with 1 year left on the deal. Russell and the #1 pick is a no brainer. Porzingis, Russell, and Simmons.Ingram would be a great future trio.
Add in grant you might have 4 of your future starting 5, if herangomez pans out you could have your future starting 5 for the next 10 years
Grant Russell Ingram/Simmons kp willy
Grant-Russell backcourt would be delightful. Although I wonder what the perception of Russell is around the league at this point.
There isn't a real PG in the Triangle though. But both could be used to initiate the offense.
How is Russell's penetrating ability (pause)?
No, you're not. People are just endlessly optimistic and lopsided in their trades . You're not getting more for Carmelo Anthony at 31 than you paid for Carmelo Anthony at 26.

Russell is a triangle PG for exactly that reason. Phil has always likes bigger guys who can shoot at PG. The triangle PG usually sends the ball into the post and then does a sharp cut to the corner 3, which is something Russell excels at. He's a great shooter (and a huge douchebag).
His strength isn't getting to the rim, since he isn't an explosive athlete or all that strong.
I agree, it wouldn't be the pick AND Russell, unless the deal expands to include other assets going both ways.
no. About 5 people said this exact thing prior to your post.
I doubt this trade would ever happen but there are some reasons for Lakers to do this...
Lakers have always been star chasers, they may feel its better to build by trying to lure stars in free agency
And if you play him next to grant he doesn't have to worry about having to get in the lane or trying to be a slasher, he can sit back and do what he does best move the ball and shoot open jumpers
Why would you trade Lopez? He is signed for 3 more years on a cap friendly deal and only 28
The only way I could see it happening is if they got word from Durant's camp that he wants to play with melo and would come to LA to do it
let's be real. Is this team even going to be running the triangle in 2-3 years?
Bring him on board, Phil.
Bring him on board, Phil.
Phil is in Montana somewhere smoking pot and listening to bob Marley, he won't even know Vogel is fired until a month from now when he comes back to reality
Haha this is probably true
"Another thing Vogel would have going for him in New York is his familiarity and appreciation for Brian Shaw, a Jackson disciple. The former Lakers guard and coach was Vogel's top assistant in Indiana from 2011-13, largely due to his ability to help Vogel incorporate some triangle nuances into the Pacers' system."
Why the hell would you trade a top 2 pick for Harrison Barnes just to over pay him? That would be horrible
Maybe they have talked and it just has not been leaked?
Supposedly rambis and shaw do not like each other and do not get along anymore
This would be my plan if I am the Lakers, go after Whiteside, draft Simmons...
Russell clarkson Simmons randle Whiteside
Shaw is not going to accept an assistant job until ever hc position is filled
Unless they are dealing Melo then I want Vogel. If they are dealing Melo I don't care who the coach is next year.
