A big disappointment offensively, but look at JR Murphy and what he is doing for the Twins. He is batting .075 and has had over 40 at bats. And Chris Young is doing squat for thr Redsox i think he is batting like .120
but I really can't see this team turning it around this year to get back in the playoff mix. They look like Boston did last season. They're just digging a deeper hole each day without the hitting or the starting pitching to bail them out of it eventually.
It's a long season, their starters don't give them a lot of length, and Betances has already been worked pretty heavily. So, that's fine to me. But Barbato over Miller to start the tenth makes no sense. Miller's barely pitched lately.
I don't know who our hitting coach is but he should be the first to go
Didi and Hicks need to stop swinging for the fences. Start taking back up the middle or the other way. Headly needs to put both hands on the bat so he can control his swing. His bullshit overlap grip sucks. The rest of the problem is related to geriatrics. We can't get rid of these old guys fast enough.
It's going to be a long year but look on the bright side. we'll be fighting with San Diego for the first pick in the draft.
it was an excellent game. Tanaka was superb. Gausman pitched well, but every time he scuffled they found a way to let him out of it, whether it was a DP or a baserunning mistake or a soft liner into the shift. Top to bottom they're just a bad lineup.
They really need a little bit of young blood. I'd rather see Gamel struggle a bit than watch Ackley suck. I'd rather see Sanchez than Romine, and the couple solid games of Torreyes shouldn't take away from the fact that he just isn't all that good - Refsnyder will probably be better at the plate.
No. Yeah he can pick it but he swung a decent bat playing major college baseball and there are reasons to believe he isn't topped out (was a two-sport athlete, broke out a bit his junior/draft season). It's a lazy comparison by sportswriters because a couple pubs thought Holder was a couple rounds early, but other pubs had him pegged in that area anyway. He could bust, but it won't be because he's Cito Culver 2.0.
I think he's a little light on this, Law says his ceiling could be big-league regular, but I'll take even this over .215 with 25 HRs which seems to be half our lineup. Link - ( New Window )

They have two, Alan Cockrell and Marcus Thames. Thames has no business being a hitting coach for this team he was a average player. Last year after they let Kevin Long go I wanted them to hire Chili Davis.
Thames has no business being a hitting coach because he was an average player?? Seriously? Some of the best hitting coaches in baseball were either fringe players or never made the majors at all like Kevin Long.
He was the hitting coach in Scranton last year and they liked the work he did.
Gotta pay the bills, peasant.

Jesus.
Jesus.
Girardi is out. But the Binder remains.
True. Forgot he was tossed!

I swear, it's like the bizarro dynasty years. Everything went their way back then, now nothing does.
