Cannot and should not be forgotten about. People should learn from it yes, but letting abuse like this go on for 30+ years is absolutely disgusting.

The insurance company is fighting it and has surprisingly found some "new alleged" information that would be to their advantage. They wrote it in their court order themselves, so it must be true!

YelbertonA : 5/5/2016 9:03 pm : link

and have no ties to Penn State

But seriously, do you people read and understand English?

The very brief linked article uses the word "allegedly"

al·leg·ed·ly
əˈlejədlē/
adverb
used to convey that something is claimed to be the case or have taken place, although there is no proof.

Unlike many people that hold a strong opinion on this issue, I read every word of the 200+ page report that was produced by the independent commission, and there was very little direct evidence of Paterno burying information. Yeah, he should have followed up after he did report it, but as I said, there's not much in the way of incontrovertible evidence.

But feel free to flame away.

You signed up and registered to defend Joe Paterno?

Paterno's control was absolute in everything football
tempit : 5/5/2016 9:11 pm : link
at Penn State.

If he did not know, it is because he did not want to know.

I believed all that stuff that it was a clean program, I was wrong -- there is no clean program at any college.

This is so much worst than all the other forms of cheating, in other college football programs.

from link on sentencing of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, below

"As a 17-year-old boy, I was devastated," he said. "I tried to figure out why Coach Hastert had singled me out." He endured years of guilt, isolation and sleeplessness, he told the court. "Today I understand I did nothing to bring this on, but at age 17, I could not understand what happened or why."

" U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study estimates it could be as high as 1 of every 6 men — hide what happened to them for years. They tell no one. But every so often, something happens to crack the silence. "

So, you think the insurance company just made stuff up and wrote up the fictitious accounts in their briefs that are official court records?

The 94 season holds some great childhood memories. That said, I no longer even bother to watch the games anymore. To see so many otherwise rational, well adjusted adults not only run to defend Paterno but actually play the victim/persecution card...it makes me sick.

Directly to those defending/making excuses/playing semantics (well it only says "allegedly")...what in Gods name is wrong with you? What would it take for you to see these positively abhorrent actions for what they are? Does your own child have to become a victim? I mean, seriously, what in the hell is wrong with you people?

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.—At Saturday’s Penn State football game, many of the nearly 100,000 fans will be wearing khaki pants with the cuffs rolled up, white shirts and thick black glasses in a tribute to late head football coach Joe Paterno.

There will be cardboard Paterno cut-outs and a postgame candlelight vigil on the spot where his statue stood before the university removed it in 2012 amid fallout from an assistant coach’s child sex-abuse scandal.

“We’re not going away,” said Laurie Stanell, a 58-year-old dentist from Doylestown, Pa., who graduated from Penn State in 1980 and is behind the sartorial shout-out. “We’re just going to keep honoring him and pushing for the university to come back on board.”

Fans Press Penn State to Restore Paterno's Legacy - ( New Window )
Something about this doesn't smell right
Bramton1 : 5/5/2016 9:53 pm : link
During the trial there wasn't anything said about any incidents before the late 90s. Now the school is handing out money hand and fist, and suddenly someone is claiming they spoke to Paterno two decades earlier. It's beyond any statute of limitations, so no investigation. Paterno is long dead, Sandusky has denied everything from the start, so that's not going to change. And Penn State is so worried about its reputation, it's basically OKing every claim out there. Whenever anyone is handing out money, false claims come out everytime from people looking to get rich. I would not be surprised if this was one of them.

Of course, I will be labeled a Paterno apologist for suggesting that there may be a few people out there lying out their ass to get rich of this case. Because while there were people willing to lie out their asses to make money off of 9/11, this case is beyond reproach.

Sandusky is in jail for life, Paterno is worm food, Curley, Spanier and Schultz are probably never go to trial (ugh...). Anyone involved in this is either dead, in jail, or had their reputations utterly destroyed. I'm not saying move on, because anyone with a legitimate case likely can't. But I'm just so fucking tired of hearing about this shit.
I'm gonna probably get roasted for this
grizz299 : 5/5/2016 9:53 pm : link
But I know several people who knew Joe. I am 75 and he was older. I suspect this is hard for many of you to understand, but in the world that we grew up in the illusion was that this didn't happen. This was a world where the F word wasn't spoken. If we heard about things like that it was in another world and it's hard to imagine a football type doing anything so hideous. Maybe the Nazi's but not a red blooded American.
Mock me all you want but Joe was a good ten years older and I think he just couldn't believe it. And I think if he had he would have done something. The demonizing that's going on here and the assumption that any decent man wouldn't have done something seems excessive.
If it can be proved that he know and did nothing to protect his program then I'll light the torches, but until then I simply choose not to believe.
Sorry
B in ALB : 5/5/2016 9:57 pm : link

What kind of proof and evidence do you want? Do you expect there to be some kind of video of him molesting a boy? I think the sheer volume of victims is proof enough. Is it possible some people lied? Yes it is but it doesn't take away from the fact that everyone who knew about this and did nothing deserves to be punished. Sandusky deserves to burn in hell.
