tangible, like records sold, hits, sold out concerts, etc etc?
I remember very little about Cheap Trick form the late 70's and early 80's to be honest with you. I do remember one guy in junior high who liked Cheap Trick, and when anybody referred to him, it was almost always like this -
"you know, that kid, big Cheap Trick fan".
It would seem odd to refer to somebody in that manner of everybody liked Cheap Trick.
Unlike - "you know that kid, big Zeppelin fan"
I dunno, maybe it was a regional thing....they have a few snappy tunes, but beyond those 3 or 4 hits, what are we really looking at here?
I understand subjectivity and all that and I know some of what they did was respected by artists I respect but I just never got it.
BTW, mentioning the Penn St scandal on a rock n roll thread is in very poor taste, then again, maybe that explains the type of person that enjoys Cheap Trick. Done any Bay City Rollers downloads lately?
I agree with Clams - a few hit songs but that's it
it's hands down my favorite live album. I don't really like live albums, but this was the exception. Realistically, what did they ever do after that? Great album, but CT is not a band that has made a lasting contribution to the music industry. They melted away in the early 80's under the tidal wave of rap, glam rock, heavy metal and new wave.
They ran out of truly great artists a long time ago, and I'm not slamming CT because I like their couple of big hits. But you know people have to really struggle at this point to name a HOF artist who is t already in. RR HOF nominees at this point are pretty much anyone who had a hit song or two. I'm waiting for the Daughtry induction.

Pssst, Bama Blue, Caught in the Act - Grand Funk Railroad
not a bad one, but it doesn't tickle my very eclectic musical interest. I love groups like Mighty Bosstones, The Killers, English Beat, ABC... like I said, very eclectic.
Aw, you guys gave Rocky a sadz for mentioning poor Penn State
Be nice to him, or else we won't get the exquisite treat of hearing him blather on about the most boring band in rock history, Pink Floyd, for 2500 words.
And psyched they're finally in but I'm more shocked it too so long for Deep Purple to get in rather than CT
Big fan of both. That being said, Gillan is a douche.
Cheap Trick consistently put out better music their whole careers..sans a couple of weak albums. The problem is, those albums arent upper echelon albums. They had a run of albums from their first through Dream Police/Budokan that you cannot touch. Very good albums after that, but not untouchable. A rogue hit in the 80s with The Flame, which they didn't even write and most CT fans disown!
They've kept relevant by their constant touring, the quality of show and the infusion of new material into their sets. But even they know (as you can tell by their live sets ), those first 5 albums or so is their bread and butter.
Oh, and screw Gillan for not allowing Hughes and Coverdale to perform with DP at the hall. We get it, they would embarrass you and your has been vocals.Mark 3 lineup still has the chops, minus the great Lord.

Greggie, your lack of taste in music is only exceeded by your blind hatred of anything not associated with the Waaaaaaahoos. Why don't you start another " Duke is mean to us" thread. You might be better equipped to handle that.
^^^^again, this is a fiftysomething year old man^^^^
and supplanted Frampton Comes Alive as the live album soundtrack of our youth. I remember wondering who are these guys and why are there 10,000 screaming fans out there who knew their songs because I had never heard of them before. Such was music of the day.
Used to blast that stuff on my 60W speakers as a kid

Feel...there was a ton of bs there. It was sad Nick Simper was ignored by the hall as well. I'm going to see Glenn Hughes in August and I'm looking forward to it as be still has his voice. Hughes made a couple of appearances at some Whitesnake shows where he and Coverdale did some old Purple songs

Sellersville? I'll be there if that's the one you're going to!
Hughes said he was asked by a member of the current band not to perform... obvious it was Gillan!
I saw the Whitesnake Purple show and thought it was EXCELLENT. Great to hear songs off of albums like Come Taste The Band and Stormbringer.
I'm gearing up for the Black Country Communion shows/album! If you haven't seen them yet, you need to.
I was wondering, why would Greg come out of nowhere and throw a cheapshot at me on a music thread?
I've never given an opinion on Penn St. Maybe he's a Cheap Trick fan? Bay City Rollers? Possibly a cronie of Chaka?
Oh well, the fact you chose not to engage after the unprovoked shot across the bow probably works out best for both of us. I'm ready when you want to have a go though.
Have a nice weekend.
I remember seeing them in 1977 as the opening act for Kansas
I didn't really know much about them to that point but they really stood out and put on a terrific show, right down to the throwing handfuls of guitar picks. They were memorable and while I never really became what I would describe a huge fan of theirs I have always enjoyed them since that night.
And please indulge me as I once again plug this cover

Feel I'll be at Sellersville. I'm waiting for the better seats to open up, but I have one in reserve. I last saw Glenn Hughes in 1986 as the singer for that disastrous Black Sabbath your he did. He let me down then, but I've waited 30 years for him to redeem himself and I don't think he'll disappoint. Drop me an email and maybe we can meet up before the show
How 'bout the tunes?
I want you to want me
The dream police
Da-na-na-na-na-na
Your mama's all right
Your daddy's all right
They just seem a little bit weird
1. Why is a rap/hip-hop group being inducted?
2. What took so long for [x]?
3. How come [x] still isn't in it?
seems like it might be on purpose

Well anyway, they're in
I was gonna say because they suck?

STILL not in.
Criminal.
I used to play it so loud it took a long time to realize they weren't any good.

Maybe my favorite cover of any song ever - ( New Window )

I agree, if Deep Purple isn't in that's a far greater injustice.
