NFT: Star Wars fans - Han Solo Movie News

Giantology : 5/6/2016 8:34 am
Alden Ehrenreich has been cast as Han Solo. Not sure how I feel about it as I'm not really familiar with him.

That said, I have a lot of faith in the team behind the film. Chris Miller and Phil Lord are fine directors, and the main reason for optimism is that Lawrence Kasdan is producing and co-wrote the script with his son.

The movie is technically in preproduction but there are rumors that the casting was made early enough that the Young Han Solo could make a cameo in Rogue One later this year.
‘Han Solo’ Film Updates: Alden Ehrenreich Cast as Young Han - ( New Window )
I don't think who they cast will make much of a difference
UConn4523 : 5/6/2016 8:45 am : link
the movie will be good or bad based on the script. The whole thing sounds like a bad idea but I hope i'm wrong. I'm perfectly happy with the reboot + Rogue One. This just seems like overkill.
Might be alone on this but

I don't understand why Han Solo needs to have a spinoff film
Because Disney wants a Star Wars film every year
Giantology : 5/6/2016 8:57 am : link
I agree that Han Solo doesn't need a spinoff, he's iconic and his mysterious background makes him all the more badass.

I would like an Obi Wan spinoff with Ewan McGregor though.
I don't like it either...
Chris in Philly : 5/6/2016 8:57 am : link
I don't care about the casting, and the people involved are talented, but it just screams bad idea to me. It would never happen, but the only Solo spinoff I would really be interested in is a standalone about what he and chewie were up to between VI and VII. This? Not so much.

All that said I will undoubtedly see it as I am weak-willed when it comes to SW.
If Kasdan

is involved I have total faith that this will be awesome .I saw some new pictures yesterday for episode 8 .Looks like some production photos are all over the internet now .Its amazing how they are building the jedi temple on that mountain
I'm waiting for the Admiral Ackbar spinoff
jcn56 : 5/6/2016 9:17 am : link
the book was supposedly kickass

I think it sounds awesome

If any of the characthers deserves a spin off / origin movie its Solo

Im betting that will be the third one.
I think I'd rather they do a big-screen version of Rebels
Greg from LI : 5/6/2016 9:22 am : link
That would be more interesting than trying unsuccessfully to squeeze every last nickel out of the original cast of characters.
What I dont understand why this has a release date in
ZGiants98 : 5/6/2016 9:22 am : link
July 2018. Just make them all come out in December so they are each a year apart.

Still holding out hope that some of the Characters from rebels are in Rogue one .And a certain one will be reviled as Supreme leader Snoke in episode 8
I guess I should clarify
Greg from LI : 5/6/2016 9:33 am : link
They'll be successful in squeezing the money out, of course, but I expect the movies themselves to be underwhelming.
I was a little underwhelmed
ZGiants98 : 5/6/2016 9:43 am : link
By the force awakens. I'm optimistic about Rogue One though.
Bad idea for a movie.
Mr. Bungle : 5/6/2016 9:50 am : link
I don't even know if I'll go see it.
And why would this new, young Han be in Rogue One?
Mr. Bungle : 5/6/2016 9:53 am : link
What a spectacularly stupid idea that would be.
The Force Awakens was OK, but everything was just cribbed from the

original. I know they made a big about cutting Lucas out and being true to the background story, but they went way overboard in the opposite direction to the point that everything felt stale.
I got the fevah
Joey in VA : 5/6/2016 10:13 am : link
And the only prescription..is more Solo. I don't care what all you whiny pantses think, I love Solo, I would watch a movie about Han Solo eating bran muffins and taking a deuce.
I just dont understand how
ZGiants98 : 5/6/2016 10:17 am : link
they can let any of these movies fail. Aren't we getting to sort of point with movies where we know how to write good scripts and do what we have to do to see them succeed? Isn't the Marvel universe(although nothing crazy) proving that they can churn out good movie after good movie? And if anything they might be getting even better? These movies have the biggest budgets in the world, writers and directors are lining up to get involved.. How could Disney churn out anything less than spectacular? I guess from that standpoint, I was a little disappointed with TFA but I'm holding out hope it was more of just a setup/introduction and things will start to kick off more in 8.

I agree. It was cool but what was the story? Find Luke? Weak.

It felt stale to you, but this isn't for us, it's for the young generation that we were 30 years ago. Abrams wanted to give us something and introduce the new fans to the lore and give them their own Star Wars which he did. You have to know or assume that's the case and watch the movie on its own. On its own, it was fantastic, but if you need to whine and bitch I guess you have your reasons.
but see, that's what I don't get
Greg from LI : 5/6/2016 11:02 am : link
I hear that line of thought all the time about all these remakes and reboots - "Oh, it's for the kids so they can have their Star Wars"

I don't get it - is there some reason why younger fans NEED a new carbon copy of Star Wars instead of something new? Are they incapable of appreciating the original for some reason?

Well, if they did that movie CiP asked for, the years between VI and VII, that's basically all Harrison Ford would get you at this point.

Avergers 2 was pretty bad. Hulk, the Thor movies, etc...Marvel has misses too.

That's s stretch. Out of about 15 movies you have to really search for maybe one or two. My overall point obviously still stands. 20 years ago those movies would have bombed. I think every single Marvel movie made was graded "fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes or at least close to it anyway.

Avatar 2 is being released in December 2018. Reportedly Fox and Disney have an agreement to alternate Decemeber releases between Star Wars and Avatar going forward.
I don't see the problem

Han has a very interesting back story to explore. Even before the smuggling, he was a cadet in the Imperial Navy. It would be great to see how a guy like Han does in that setting. I am really most interested, though, in seeing Han and Chewie's origin. Han supposedly saved Chewie, who was a slave of the Empire, as were many Wookies.
the movie I had to endure last year
RasputinPrime : 5/6/2016 2:16 pm : link
was so painful to watch and the trailer for RS so uninspiring I have written off any interest in SW films until I see different. The animated stuff is just so much better and continues to be.

There is so much PQ BS with this franchise it has dissolve what used to be a rabid interest in the lore.

TFA has a rating at the top of that list. So all good.
Force Awakens was such a strong start, in my opinion, from Disney
Matt M. : 5/6/2016 2:23 pm : link
I think Rogue One looks really good, as well. So, I have no reason to believe this won't also be good. I'll believe that until they prove me otherwise. So far, it looks like Disney may be the best thing that has happened to Star Wars.

I really hope you only like IV and V then because RotJ and the prequels all sucked. There have been 7 movies to date and at its worst, Awakens is #3.

Not sure how you can saw RS is uninspiring. Just sounds like you hate anything new no matter what angle taken.

What exactly would you like to see done differently? What is uninspiring about the Rogue One teaser trailer?
I would hope he is joking

sorry but FA was a good movie maybe it was not perfect but for us die hard star wars fans it brought us back to 1977,1980 and 1983 ,Keep making them because for so long all we had was the dark horse comics and the prequels
Return of the Jedi has become underrated
Greg from LI : 5/6/2016 2:51 pm : link
It's clearly lesser than Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back, but that doesn't make it bad. It's much better than the prequels.
