Planning a weekend trip soon and looking for some recommendations on where to stay since I have never been to Lake George before. Just the lady & I are going.
See if any of the hotels...

My only advice is to stay somewhere north or south of Lake George.
guitarguybs12 : 5/6/2016 11:06 am : link
To the north there's the Bolton area, which is only a 10 minutes drive away but less hectic and touristy, and prices should be cheaper as well.
Your budget

will likely tell the story here.
I usually stay on the east side of the lake,
Section331 : 5/6/2016 11:08 am : link
the southern portion. Much quieter, and an easy ride to the beaches, restaurants, etc. Last year, I stayed at Antigua Resort, and it was terrific. It has its own beach, and is reasonably priced.

Going up to Brant Lake in June for a few days.. right near Lake George. Just a bit N/NW. Looking forward to it.
Honestly

if it's just you and your woman you might want to consider Lake Placid. LG will be packed with kids, families and local yokels. LP is quieter and offers some excellent dining, hiking, shopping, etc options. I would highly recommend The Mirror Lake Inn for some of the romantic type stuff! It's only another hour or so north.

Meh, I grew up in Glens Falls. The strip has always been white trashy sprinkled with Canadians.

I live 20 minutes away

From LG Village. The only time I head into LG is September when they have a nice classic car show and get some Capri pizza.

Ausable Chasm

My family used to drive up to Lake George from NYC for an occassional summer vacation when I was a kid (60 years ago). One of my favorite things to do while there was a side trip to Ausable Chasm. Awesome place. It has been 50 years since I have been back, but I still remember the natural beauty of the chasm and the raft ride. Appears now there is some zip-lining available. I strongly recommend making a trip there.
Thanks everyone!

B, I think you sold me on the Mirror Inn, that's exactly what I was looking for.

CiP that's pretty damn awesome!
My family vacationed at Lake George once...
BamaBlue : 5/6/2016 2:49 pm : link
in the early '70's. I remember a couple of things, but my favorite was an amusement park called Gaslight Village. Is that still there? Also, I remember taking a river boat ride on a boat called the "Minnie Ha-Ha."

Yeah, those were the days. No mortgage, no money, no job, Fran Tarkenton was my hero and I had no knowledge of the corrupt ways of mankind...

Mini Ha-Ha is still there.

Gaslight closed down in either the late 80's or early 90's.

Magic Forest is still there with probably one of, if not the last diving horses.
