Planning a weekend trip soon and looking for some recommendations on where to stay since I have never been to Lake George before. Just the lady & I are going.
the southern portion. Much quieter, and an easy ride to the beaches, restaurants, etc. Last year, I stayed at Antigua Resort, and it was terrific. It has its own beach, and is reasonably priced.
if it's just you and your woman you might want to consider Lake Placid. LG will be packed with kids, families and local yokels. LP is quieter and offers some excellent dining, hiking, shopping, etc options. I would highly recommend The Mirror Lake Inn for some of the romantic type stuff! It's only another hour or so north.
My family used to drive up to Lake George from NYC for an occassional summer vacation when I was a kid (60 years ago). One of my favorite things to do while there was a side trip to Ausable Chasm. Awesome place. It has been 50 years since I have been back, but I still remember the natural beauty of the chasm and the raft ride. Appears now there is some zip-lining available. I strongly recommend making a trip there.
in the early '70's. I remember a couple of things, but my favorite was an amusement park called Gaslight Village. Is that still there? Also, I remember taking a river boat ride on a boat called the "Minnie Ha-Ha."
Yeah, those were the days. No mortgage, no money, no job, Fran Tarkenton was my hero and I had no knowledge of the corrupt ways of mankind...

Mini Ha-Ha is still there.
Gaslight closed down in either the late 80's or early 90's.
Magic Forest is still there with probably one of, if not the last diving horses.
Saratoga is one of the nicest spots in the country.Check out the schedule at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The race track is awesome.Nice shops and restaurants.
But your wallet won't.
