That would make for some fun Western Conference Finals
bceagle05 : 5/6/2016 12:27 pm : link
over the next few seasons. Transitioning from Duncan/Parker/Ginobili right into Durant/Leonard/Aldridge would be the NBA equivalent of Montana to Young or Favre to Rodgers. Just insane.
How?
nygiants16 : 5/6/2016 12:27 pm : link
Unless Durant is taking a major pay cut...

Even if Duncan and ginobli both retire they do not have enough money...

Really doesn't make sense for spurs to go after him, the guy they should go after is Whiteside...

Parker green Leonard Aldridge Whiteside that is scary
They
Jon in NYC : 5/6/2016 12:27 pm : link
would need Duncan and Ginobili to retire, right?

And trade diaw for nothing
Figuring 89 million cap
Deej : 5/6/2016 12:37 pm : link
with a max for Durant at 27 million. Spurs currently at 84.6 million, including player options for TD, Manu, and West for a total of 9 million. Those three opting out isnt nearly enough. They'd have to move 2 of 3 of Parker (14.5 million), Green (10), and Diaw (6.5).

And remember even if they opt out their salary is still on the cap unless they renounce their rights
Whiteside is too much of an airhead to be a Spurs player.
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/6/2016 12:44 pm : link
.
Query whether Aldridge
Deej : 5/6/2016 12:51 pm : link
would play center there. Remember his purported excuse for not talking to the Knicks.
Latest projected cap number I saw was about $92 mil
sjnyfan : 5/6/2016 12:51 pm : link
If the three opt out it would give SA about $18 mil in cap space approximately. Plus maybe they would be able to trade Mills and/or Diaw for picks. Also, the cap jumps the following year.

It would make Spurs/Warriors like Bulls/Knicks in the 90s.

Who cares if cap jumps again has nothing to do with this year...

You are not taking into account cap holds either, you trade diaw and mills for nothing they leave a 1 million dollar cap hold combine...

Also of Duncan and ginibli both opt out you don't just get cap relief, you have to renounce their rights, ..

It's a longshot, but I'd like to see it. I know you wouldn't.

Better than staying in OKC or worse going to GS which would be as ridiculous as Lebron, Wade and Bosh teaming up in Miami.

I know
Jon in NYC : 5/6/2016 1:10 pm : link
some mentioned it early in the season, but I'd be pretty surprised if he ends up with GSW. That's a pretty big shift for a team that has obviously been humming very nicely.

I think the Spurs would be more likely, but the odds on bet has to be him staying with OKC for 1 more year with a player option for year two.
FWIW,
Jon in NYC : 5/6/2016 1:11 pm : link
If I'm Durant, I'm going to the Wizards. Coming back home, get to play with Wall, Beal. It's would be a similar situation to the Thunder, but you get to run through the East instead of the Spurs, Warriors, etc.
haha

its all speculation but what a joke that would be. I love watching the Spurs, but this would just be stupid.

Celtics have a good thing going right now but if you're comparing situations one team has Russ and one has midget Isiah as a wingman. If he's leaving OKC, I would think he wants at least one, if not two, stars already in place.

SAS also swore that Lebron would pick the Knicks in 2010.
how was KD's relationship with Brooks?
Enzo : 5/6/2016 1:16 pm : link
Because it would seem that would now be a pretty big factor when it came to him considering Washington.
I would say
nygiants16 : 5/6/2016 1:17 pm : link
0 chance he signs with spurs or warriors

I think if he leaves okc it will be the following year when Westbrook and Durant can go somewhere together
.
arcarsenal : 5/6/2016 1:18 pm : link
Would be awful for the sport.
with the endorsement money Durant makes
PaulBlakeTSU : 5/6/2016 1:20 pm : link
and the money he has already made in salary and would make 4/5 years from now in salary, he could afford to play for the minimum at any location if doing so would provide him more happiness than the max salary that he'd eventually never spend anyway.
keep in mind
PaulBlakeTSU : 5/6/2016 1:23 pm : link
after this season he'll have made about $110 million on the court, and signed a $300 million endorsement deal with Nike.

After taxes, and agent fees, and lavish spending, the guy still has an absurd fortune of wealth. He doesn't have to go to a place that can afford a max contract if that isn't his main incentive.

Plus the draft. Maybe the Celtics get that one star in the draft.

Celtics also have room to add two stars especially if they don't pick up the $12M option on Amir Johnson.

But yeah, they're a long shot. Probably low on his list.

Basketball players compared to other sports make ridiculous money. Small rosters help obviously.

From an Araton article in the Times
Aspano! : 5/6/2016 1:30 pm : link
Quote:
Meanwhile, according to a person close to Blatt, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the current coaching search, Blatt at least came away from his chat with Jackson with the belief that he was a legitimate candidate for the Knicks job.

He pitched himself to Jackson as a defensive-minded coach who, while playing collegiately at Princeton, was reared on the joy of a deliberate, five-man offense and therefore amenable to embracing Jacksons beloved triangle. He reminded Jackson that he initially went to Cleveland in 2014 to coach a young, undisciplined Cavaliers team, a work in progress. That was before James suddenly returned as the homecoming King, when the Cavs were essentially the Knicks, minus the veteran shotmaking of Carmelo Anthony.

Actually it was the opposite. It was crappy guys like Hahn and Dee that swore that LEbron was coming to NY to play for D'Antoni because he said hi to him on 2008 Olympics team. And that Walsh was this great GM that can land any big FA despite the fact he never did that in Indiana.

SAS was the first to say Miami and was killed by everyone for it.

Aside from LaMarcus Aldridge, what stars did San Antonio grab?

They drafted Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, and made a draft day trade with Indiana to get Kawhi Leonard for George Hill. This post doesn't make any sense.

sorry but you can't put Hahn and Dee in the same sentence or even universe. Hahn, after all, was the one who ultimately broke the story of his final decision.

everyone should be prohibited from using SAS as a source even if that person adds the caveat that SAS is a blowharded windbag that brings nothing to the table.

Hahn and Dee said NY. Hahn only began to second guess himself after the meeting between Lebron and the Knicks. Isola and Berman killed him for it. Isola said that's what happens when your only source is the head coach.

But Hahn and Dee were selling D'Antoni as some big factor in Lebron coming to NYC. Hahn exposed himself when after criticizing Dolan for the meeting went promptly to kissing his ass when Cablevision brought Newsday. Hahn is and has always been more of a hack than SAS. And I don't even like SAS.

I assume that Duncan is getting a sweetheart offer to buy a minority interest in the Spurs after he retires, and that he has been promised it as essentially a quid pro quo for taking low salaries. A few writers will say "come on, that was pre-arranged and it is cap circumvention" but it will go no where.

??? What does being a company guy have to do with anything when he was working at Newsday. His only source was D'Antoni. He blamed the bad meeting on Dolan which Lebron camp quickly squashed and said that D'Antoni looked like he rather be somewhere else and Walsh was rolling around in a wheelchair. Hahn then started to criticize Lebron for letting his camp influence him.

Listen I don't like none of these NY beat guys but this notion that Hahn and Dee are above the fray is laughable. They're all hacks.

Why would Stotts leave the Blazers to come here?

I'd prefer Vogel to Blatt but either would be fine.

If we got a second I'd like Caris Levert (even though he went to Michigan). If he was healthy this year he's probably a late lotto guy.
