They dropped Zack Snyder

they have no idea how to make a DC movie that highlights anyone other than Batman.

Sources at WB tell me that this is just one part of what’s going on behind the scenes at the DC movieverse. Zack Snyder and Geoff Johns were taken aback at critical and audience reaction to Batman v Superman, I’m told, and WB execs have found themselves at odds with Snyder over his vision for Justice League and the DC movieverse going forward. Of course Justice League was scheduled to start shooting mere days after BvS was released, which meant WB couldn’t take any definitive action – like removing Snyder or delaying the movie to make changes – without poisoning the box office for BvS. The result? Lots of fights between Snyder and the WB execs, and lots of pressure from Burbank on Snyder, who is shooting in London.
I think after this summer

The Two Russo brothers are going to be the big names that everyone will be after.

He just got neutered. Snyder is fucking putrid and he's going to have to get sign off on everything now. If he had any respect for himself he'd just backout of the whole project, he's a miserable director.
Executive Producer, in this case, doesn't count for much
BlackLight : 5/6/2016 9:12 pm : link
It's really just an additional job title a studio will typically offer an actor to justifying paying him/her the money for which they're asking. EPs in movies don't usually have a great deal of creative influence on script (TV is a different story).

They weren't going to fire Snyder. This is the next best thing. Affleck is going to have more say than your typical EP.

Ben Affleck, already set to co-star in the film, has signed on to become its executive producer as well. In that role, he will work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be. I
More to the story..

My sources have told me that Affleck was incredibly unhappy about the reception of BvS. He felt humiliated after spending so much of the press tour saying how much better this film would be than Daredevil. On top of that his agent was furious when Kevin Tsujihara jumped the gun and announced him as the director of The Batman - there were still negotiations happening.

This move seems to help placate Affleck while also edging Zack Snyder out of a controlling central position in the DC Movieverse.
DC had Zack Snyder pretty much in charge of their cinematic universe.

So yes this is big. He couldn't survive two underwhelming movies and he shouldn't have.
