An interesting point is that several years ago Lincoln Riley was coaching at East Carolina and had Dwayne Harris for one year. In that one year, Harris caught over 100 passes and Riley called him one of the toughest guys he ever coached.
Regarding Shepard (which is the majority of the interview), he says a ton of things that should have Giants fans excited about # 87.
makes you wonder how Doctson and Corey Coleman were ranked ahead of him...even Treadwell. He seems to have it all. Speed, quickness, route running, physicality, intangibles.
The only reason he wasn't a 1st rounder is because he's only 5'10.
I've watched every single video I could find on him since he's been drafted. The guy is an absolute stud. I'd probably put him as the top WR in the draft. If he was 6 foot he would have been taken at 15 by the Browns.
I saw all of his games at OU and he is one of my favorite players in college football.....boy it's great to have him on the Giants....my Giants! talk about cake and eating it too...wow.... wakeup BCD......
Smith didn't get yards after the catch, and also couldn't seem to catch the ball, over his should and in stride. Sterling does both. Smith was a really useful possession receiver, but not explosive.
Very explosive, huge and tremendous hands and catch radius when you factor in his leaping and gymnast-like body control. Elite playmaker and competitor, want-to is contagious and football teams require emotional leaders as much as pure physical talent.

Size and lack of blazing speed. You have to have one or other other to go in the first.
He ran a 4.48 which is plenty of speed. His measureables are basically the exact same as Odell. Odell has him in the 40. Shepard beats him in the vertical, broad & bench.

Odell was faster and has crazy long arms which allow him to play much bigger than his size.
Plus you can watch his tape and see he's a special athlete. Shepard isn't.

Chris, your football/player knowledge is horrific. Stay out of this thread. Shepard is special. Dumbass.
How come nobody traded up to get him in front of the Giants? Plus, he was mentioned to the Giants in several mocks and everybody knows the Giants reveal their picks.
not everyone is Odell, and "Well Odell did it" is horrible reasoning.
I don't know anything about this kid. Hope for the best. Want his to succeed, but I see a select few people here writing him in for 1200 yards as a rookie. Calm down.

If Shepard is even slightly better than Randle this year, I'd be happy. Not all rookie WRs can enter the NFL and dominate in year 1.
This review makes Shepard seem like OBJ Jr. Very few weaknesses are cited and a plethora of strengths that should get any NY Giants fan excited to see this young man play.
to raise each other's game...but I hope they keep their egos in check so they don't clash. Shep seems humble and having Cruz to mentor the two will help.
route runners, and that's how you win at WR if you also catch the ball, and all three can catch the ball, and then take off with it. Odell's a bit faster in shorts, but Shepard has all the explosion numbers. Odell has a better 3-cone, too. They are some pair, and both of them spoke of their admiration for Cruz when they were drafted.
A lot of people are gonna absolutely hate this kid.
Will in most cases be a check down or third option guy. The other two receivers are going to be that good. Having Shepard in the line up is going to put a lot of pressure on the d'backs. If Eli can stay healthy the passing game should be fun to watch.

I think he was referring to the Carolina/Baltimore Steve Smith.

- he is a thick WR
- He is a great route runner
- Good, big, strong hands
- Fast, quick
-Great with the ball in his hands
If you added 3 inches on him, he would be a top 10 easily.
I did want a taller WR for redzone purposes but i would take a great route runner with speed and hands over height any day.

41 inch vertical mitigates the height thing a bit as well.
He would've been a top 25 pick if he were 6 foot.
What separated Beckham and made him such a high pick?
Can blow a game wide open.
Steve Smith: 2nd round
Hakeem Nicks: 1st round
He has been hit or miss in the mid to late round WRs but I have complete confidence in him for the Shepard pick.
Bust is correct. But I believe Accorsi was the GM for that pick.
5'11" - 198
arms - 32.75"
hands - 10"
40 - 4.43
vert - 38.5"
broad - 122"
3 cone - 6.69
20 yd shuttle - 3.94
bench - 7 reps
Sheppard
5'10" - 194
arms - 30.38"
hands - 9.75"
40 - 4.48
vert - 41.0"
broad - 123"
3 cone - 7.00
20 yd shuttle - 4.35
bench - 20 reps

Ramses Barden, then. Jerrel Jernigan, too. Can't win 'em all.

Shepard Review - ( New Window )
It is also possible that people like OBJ change the way the position is defined. It happens, LT did it, and then you have to adjust.
If the Giants are successful with OBJ/Cruz/Sheppard, that challenges the conventional wisdom. I like to hope.
