If he's healthy, it's Keenan Robinson. He's a better player than Brinkley.

But I'd go with Robinson with Brinkley spelling him at first, but Brinkley will probably be replaced by Goodson about halfway through the season as primary backup. I suspect Goodson will take over the starting role for good in his second season.

This all hinges on injuries, which may continue until they find and throw Joe Btfsplk out of the locker room...or wherever he's hiding within the Giants staff.

He hasn't been able to stay healthy though so I'm sure we see a lot of a Brinkley. It would be nice if they finally hit on a mid-rounder at LBer in Goodson. Lord knows they're due. If Goodson could play the middle I think Robinson would slide out to the WIL in favor of Thomas. Probably a pipedream but it would be really nice if they found a diamond in the rough with Goodson,

The Giants don't seem to.

Robinson may have some coverage flaws, but it's not like J.T. Thomas was locking anyone down in that spot. Kennan was a 3-4 ILB with the Skins.

They'll want it to be Robinson. Goodson will be given a shot later in the year if he can beat Robinson in coverage.

Robinson, but the preseason will start with Brinkley at the top of the depth chart.

See if you can figure out who they will be before coming up with the short list of MLB candidates.

I think 4.87 and he hits like a freight train, I have seen him play, if he gets Spagnulo's system down he will start.

Too much experience for a rookie to overcome. And Robinson is considered a pretty good player when healthy.

I agree with both assessments. You're talking MLB in the NFL. Unless Goodson is the second coming, he'll get his shots this year, but not in a starting role. If he wins the MLB Starting POsition, then we probably have someone special.

But you have to grasp the defensive system. You have to be in charge of at least the front seven if not the eleven. And you have to know the 31 other teams offenses in their basic forms. LT changed football. If Goodson will change football, then let him start. If not, let Robinson or Brinkley start.

They like Brinkley he started to really come on as he got comfortable with Spags defense. I'll be surprised if he is not the starter at MLB day one... but no one knows yet. It wouldn't shock me to see Robinson/Kennard/Brinkley on the field at the same time with Brinkley leaving the field for nickel packages... but who knows? It is putting pressure on Cassillas and Thomas to compete at a higher level and will most likely push Herzlich off the roster altogether.

...including Shepard and Goodson as well as Robinson and Brinkley.

For me the optimal starting LB trifecta is:

WILL: Robinson when healthy
MIKE: Goodson or Shepard until he's ready
SAM: Kennard when healthy

and if he can't compete for starting position it is time to cut him. Same with Cooper Taylor at safety. This whole thing about be a specialized ST player who isn't a LS, returner, kicker or punter is ridiculous. You make your bones on ST to get notice but you are expected to move on from it eventually. See Jessie Armstead for example.

I guess we should just expect it.

We infused some nice talent this off-season and then by adding Snacks, Vernon and JPP back with a vengeance (he's training like a man on a mission), the rest of the defense will benefit. Presumably Casillas and Thomas as well.

Prediction:

MIKE - Keenan Robinson
SAM - Devon Kennard
WILL - J.T. Thomas

But would like to see Goodson by mid season .
I was clamoring for Brinkley before his last
contract with the Vikings . He played well
last year .

Brinkley played well last year and he's most familiar with the defense, he'll get first crack at it. I doubt Robinson stays healthy enough to take it from him but it's not outta the question.
