you have seen as a fan. Osi Osi Osi and I had a different view on who had a better game between Burress/Nicks vs GB in their respective playoff game. So it got me wondering, what skill player had the best game you have seen?
Beckham has put on a few memorable ones already.
Burress vs GB in the playoffs.
Nicks vs GB in the playoffs.
Cruz vs. SF in the playoffs.
Barber in 2006 against Washington basically made us a playoff team.
Those are a few from the top of my head, I am sure there are plenty more to choose from as well.
A close second would be Plax in the '07 NFC title game. He just undressed Al Harris all game.
Carpenter in 1981 vs Philthydelphia
Burris vs GB in the playoffs

Was looking for non QB games haha. Of course Simms SB would be right up there.
He had more yards against Washington the next year, but he broke countless tackles against the Chiefs.
I think Derrick Ward had about 218 yards against the Panthers in that game in 2008 for the top seed in the NFC which was also very impressive.
Just shows how dominant that line was.
- LT annihilating QBs and RBs (don't hate the messenger Theismann)
- David Tyree catching the ball on his helmet in the SB
- Mario Manningham's sideline catch in SB
- OBJ's one-handed unreal catch against the Cowboys
Just off the top of my head
...505 Yards; 7 TD Passes against the Washington Redskins.
39 passes; 27 completions; no interceptions.
October 28th, 1962.
I was at the game.
Offensive Skill (non-QB) - I think I go with Burress domination in the Green Bay playoff game. He was a monster.
Defensive Skill - LT versus New Orleans. If you haven't seen it, find a you-tube video.
Of course the defense couldn't even win when #10 throws 6 TDs.

Missed this. Agreed. Tiki had some crazy runs that KC game made a lot out of a little.

A little more color on Carpenter. This was the Giants first playoff game in many fans lifetime, and the guy singlehandedly beat the Eagles. He carried the ball 33 times for 161 yds. Fantastic yards for a playoff game, and the "stage" was huge for the Giants and their fans.
Link - ( New Window )
29 completions in 39 attempts
5 TD's
381 yds
QB Rating of 120.8
Kerry was lazer sharp that game, too. I was too young for Y.A., so I can't comment on that performace.
Game was still in question in the fourth quarter, when Tiki ran in for his second TD......
Still boggles my mind, that Tki could have played one more season.....and then his fall from grace with the Giant fans....

And when you do submit, it prints twice?
Best passing performance is either Collins vs Vikings or Simms in the Super Bowl.
Best receiving game might be nicks vs Tampa bay. 200 plus yards and I believe 15 catches. Eli threw for over 500 in a nice come from behind victory
I don't know why, but this was the first one I thought of too. Sad.
Leaving a pregnant wife for a younger woman was less than emdearing as well, imv
I'd love to see that game again
Cruz vs the Jets in 2011 is the next one. that one play (99 yd TD) seemed to change the course of the Giants season and propel the team to the SB win. Maybe it's always like that, but to me it's rare to be able to point to one regular season play as a catalyst like that (JPP blocked FG in Dallas? though not really a skill player).
Amazing game.
David Wilson's hat trick was amazing also. I knew he'd be a great player after that game. :>(
Randy Moss packed it in early.
Quote:
Kerry on fire. No defensive scores. 34-0 at the half. Ike Hilliard's best game 10 receptions for 155 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Carter flat out quit in that game.
Randy Moss packed it in early.
Kerry might have been better in indianapolis the next year. Toomer was great in that game too.
So there may have been better overall performances, but in terms of a player dominating against another great player, I have to go with Plax.
Johnson was amazing that year, and IIRC in the game I am talking about he had at least 2 long TD runs or catch and runs called back because of penalties.
The line he ran behind sucked, so it was all him...

This was way before my time, but Y.A. Tittle's 7 t.d./500 yard game was the first that popped into my head.
In my lifetime it would have to be Tiki. There were a few games it seemed he was our entire offense.
Other then that there have been a few great Tiki games, a few great Eli games, a few great YA Title games, Plax against Green Bay in the 2004 NFC championship game in that bitter cold was one of the greatest also. There have been of few by Joe Morris also, what about OJ Andersen in the 1990 Super Bowl! What about Phil Simms in the 1986 Super Bowl!
Here is my list of the top three
1- Kerry Collins 2000 NFC Championship game (28-39 381/5 TD's 2 Int's)
2- Phil Simms 1986 Super Bowl (22-25 268/3 Td's 0 Int's)
3- Tiki Barber 12/30/2006 (234 yards 3 TD's) Giants make playoffs)
Yep. Most of that yardage came by Del Shofner going up the sideline and Y.A. Tittle hitting him in stride over the shoulder.
One thing about Tittle that many do not realize today, especially when our image of him is that of an old, balding guy who was not particularly large, is that he could throw a ball through dried cement.
His ball came out hot and heavy... not to mention deadly accurate... and he threw with as much heat as anyone in the modern game, even with a rounder, plumper ball that was more difficult to get a grip on compared with today's ball!
Y. A. Tittle was a tremendous athlete with an arm whipping action that could strike a rhino dead!
That is why I think Plax vs Green Bay was just one-on-one domination...
22-25
Greatest performance by a QB in a Super Bowl.
Next question.
One of my favorite games as a fan. I remember it so vividly, to was a late season Satirday game, and I actually left my college graduation early to make sure I caught it. Some of his runs in that game, particularly the one down the sideline in I believe the 3rd quarter, are some ofmthe most incredible runs I've ever seen by a Giants RB. Tiki was unstoppable that day.
He had more yards against Washington the next year, but he broke countless tackles against the Chiefs.

Just shows how dominant that line was.
The most dominant single-game performance I've ever seen by a Giant, and that's saying a lot.
That game was heavily hyped, was supposed to be all about Larry Johnson showing Giants fans what a REAL premier running back was, and Johnson DID deliver, with 167 yards and 2 TD's.
Barber - who started the game slow, with just 13 yards on his first 10 carries COMPLETELY CUT LOOSE with a Bo Jackson, Tecmo-Bowl performance. Absolutely unbelievable, he was slippery, he was uncatchably quick, he was FAST, he was powerful.
Just an insane performance by a tremendous back. He rushed for over 200 yards on FIVE occasions - this was the best of the lot. I doubt we ever see another back THAT good.
13 targets -- 11 rec -- 151 yds -- 0 TD -- (vs. 6th ranked D) -- *epic winter conditions*
9 targets -- 7 rec -- 165 yds -- 2 TD -- (vs. 19th ranked D)
Plax's game is more legendary because the game was closer, but what Nicks did in the 1st half of that game was absurd and should not be forgotten.
IMO, Nicks' performance was less Eli-based than Plax's too. As great as Plax was in owning Al Harris, that game was about the Eli-Plax connection as a duo than just Plax. Eli was murdering the Packers with the back-shoulder sideline throws in that game.
Nicks made 2 epic TDs that had almost everything to do with him. That catch-and-run and the hail mary were just monster efforts by him.
I think Nicks' game was better.

Understood.
The one thing I remember about th Burress game was he got tackled inside the 5 I believe at least once setting up TD and another time Eli under threw him for an easy 40 yard some score.
So while Plax didnt get the TDs, I think he set up a role in all of the scores.
By the way.. any news out of Anthony Davis camp?
IMO, this was the best game of his career and a very underrated performance considering it was basically the playoffs. We always talk about Cruz's 99 yarder vs. the Jets, we even mention the 76yd TD against Dallas.
But what people really forget about is Cruz's 44yd catch in the 4th quarter of that Cowboys game on a "fuck it, I'm going deep" throw from Eli.
It was 3rd and 7 at our own 28yd line with 9 mins left in the 4th, the Cowboys were coming off a TD drive to make it 21-14. Our team was looking sluggish after the 21-0 start, Dallas had all the momentum.
And then Cruz makes that play. We kick a FG to make it a two score game with 5 mins left, essentially wrapping the game up.
In a season filled with a ton of epic plays, I think this is the one that gets overlooked the most. It was an enormous play and game by Cruz.
