Graziano: Why Giants should look into trading DRC

Eric from BBI : Admin : 5/18/2016 10:05 am
Quote:
As Ferris Bueller once told us, life moves pretty fast. This is especially true in the NFL. One day, you're the hot free-agent pickup. A couple of short years later, it feels like you're yesterday's news.

This is what it feels like, right now, to be New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Giants made a couple of major moves at his position this offseason, signing free agent Janoris Jenkins to a five-year, $62.5 million contract and selecting Ohio State's Eli Apple with the No. 10 pick in the draft. Veterans always say the one thing they hope about the draft is that the team doesn't pick anyone who plays their position. Rodgers-Cromartie is certainly veteran enough to read those kinds of tea leaves....

I disagree
AP in Halfmoon : 5/18/2016 10:10 am : link
you don't win championships by trading away players like DRC. He may be gone relatively soon but he can be a key contributor on a championship caliber defense.
The Giants have 3 NFL level corners
NNJ Tom : 5/18/2016 10:12 am : link
you need 4. Do the math.

Graziano is a hack.
no thx

DRC is still our best corner
.
arcarsenal : 5/18/2016 10:13 am : link
DRC is still the best CB on the team. All of this hoopla about getting rid of him is bizarre to me.
I disagree as well....
BillKo : 5/18/2016 10:13 am : link
DRC can be a VERY useful part this season to the defense.

Plus, we have zero idea if Apple makes it in the NFL. We can assume.....but until we see it........

Overthinking again by writers with nothing else to do.
as CB is one of the most important and premium positions on the team
gidiefor : Mod : 5/18/2016 10:15 am : link
why trade away a premium player at that position -- that's sort of like asking for a hit when you have 20 showing on the blackjack table and the dealer is showing a ten
I..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/18/2016 10:16 am : link
agree completely!

It is almost like people are jumping the gun to run him out of town.
Tea Leaves?
UConn4523 : 5/18/2016 10:16 am : link
what does getting better CB's have to do with tea leaves? There's no chance we are trading him away nor should we. Not only do you need at least 3 CB's in today's NFL but we'd get a lousy haul for an older CB who's not under contract after this season.

Pointless article.
forget the team,
Big Blue '56 : 5/18/2016 10:16 am : link
he's one of the best in the business..I wish people would stop worrying about flucking money and cap implications..We're fine and should be for quite some time, imv
i've never been so confused about a player's perception
djm : 5/18/2016 10:17 am : link
to me DRC was a top 5 CB last year and probably even the year before that. But especially last year. Every game I went to last year, all five of them, I locked in on DRC for most of the time simply because I couldn't tolerate focusing on the DL. IF JPP played I'd watch him too but DRC was pretty much my guy all year and I thought he was downright dominant for most of the season. HE toyed with WRs out there at times. MAybe I am an idiot but I saw an excellent player last year.

Now all I hear is the Giants can't wait to replace him. WHy? Is it because the guy plays every fucking week? Someone tell me what is wrong with DRC. Trade him? You better be getting back an elite player.
I'm no expert but this seems stupid
deeee : 5/18/2016 10:17 am : link
a good team needs more than 2, preferably 3-4 good CBs if you want to contend, not to mention we always have injuries. Sure, it would be nice to get a top notch RT, but our O was pretty decent last year, including the run game once we ditched the stupid 4 headed committee.

I hope we pick up another RT, but not by trading one of our starting CBs!
It's fucking click bait
glowrider : 5/18/2016 10:17 am : link
Pure and simple. This is one of the dumbest ideas proffered to rile up the masses. DRC's job is not in any danger, even if Apple is the goods. We're far too reliant on having a strong backfield and strong line to cover up our underbelly.
yeah....he wants him traded to his beloved Eagles.
George from PA : 5/18/2016 10:18 am : link
Maybe move him to safety....when it's time to move in Apple....is what I would do. Extend his career 3 to 4 more years.
Keep DRC.
Randy in CT : 5/18/2016 10:18 am : link
No brainer.
Eric has also alluded to this
Coach Mason : 5/18/2016 10:19 am : link
more than once. Something is going on behind the scenes that hasn't come to the forefront yet here. I'm guessing some off the field stuff that hasn't been revealed/discovered by the media that the Giants are quite unhappy about.
Hasn't Eric shared in recent times that DRC....
Emlen'sGremlins : 5/18/2016 10:19 am : link
....has fallen out of favor with the front office and/or coaching staff?
Noway
Giants : 5/18/2016 10:20 am : link
unless your trading him for a younger talented CB. The Giants do not have enough talent at CB to trade DRC. The Giants still do not know how things are going to workout at the Safety position. So unless you know your getting a talented CB in return for DRC noway.
maybe this is one thing all of BBI can agree about?
deeee : 5/18/2016 10:20 am : link
prob not.
improve the team by trading away one of their best defenders
Greg from LI : 5/18/2016 10:21 am : link
Genius!
Is he kidding ?
BIG FRED 1973 : 5/18/2016 10:23 am : link
its a passing league now so yeah lets trade our best corner ....MINDLESS !!!!!!!!
Trading
AcidTest : 5/18/2016 10:23 am : link
DRC would be very foolish, and not like Reese. Didn’t he say after the draft, that if you have two corners, you’re one short. Apple has also never played a down in a regular season game.
Yup, offseason click bait
mfsd : 5/18/2016 10:24 am : link
I do feel for these writers, they have to keep filing stories, with not much news between now and training camp...June 1st cuts may give us something to talk about
Unless a RT is the return asset, I doubt it happens now
JonC : 5/18/2016 10:24 am : link
with the draft behind us. But, it's been clear this could well be his last season here.
some rumors I have scoffed at as nonsense in the past
djm : 5/18/2016 10:24 am : link
like Pugh to guard, I have been proven wrong about. But the DRC one is weird to me. I know he's making a lot but to me he's more than worth it. He's not even a FA next season if I am correct. Why mess with him?
it might be click bait, but I didn't click
deeee : 5/18/2016 10:25 am : link
I think the only..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/18/2016 10:25 am : link
behind the scenes rumblings have been about DRC wanting to get a last huge contract next year and that it will be difficult to keep him (or want to keep him at that price).

I don't know if the disfavor is with him or the agent.
I'd heard it's with him

That would make sense..If true, I doubt anyone would give out a huge contract (read guaranteed money) for a CB over 30, imo
We're thin at CB but we should trade DRC?
Torrag : 5/18/2016 10:36 am : link
Graziano is pretty dumb and moreso than usual with this opinion.

Why Jon? What is clear about it? That he's our best CB and plays his heart out in every game? What are we missing here?

Why some people always want to trade our best players is beyond me
PatersonPlank : 5/18/2016 10:39 am : link
Its just rolling the dice hoping to get an equivalent player for a few shekels less. Thats not how you build a winning team.
actually - now that I have actually read the piece
gidiefor : Mod : 5/18/2016 10:41 am : link
it's pretty balanced and Graziano also argues why the Giants shouldn;t trade him in addition to speculating that they should look into the idea of it
He certainly
area junc : 5/18/2016 10:41 am : link
came up small in some big spots last year. Dropping INTs that couldve turned our season around in big division games

That said this is a terrible article by ESPN !
He has a contract in place through 2018
mrvax : 5/18/2016 10:42 am : link
Leave him alone. Shit, just let the guy play it out and forget all the bullshit.

I agree, I would be shocked and bummed to lose him.
Whatever it is about the guy...
Milton : 5/18/2016 10:45 am : link
...he seems to wear out his welcome with teams. Denver didn't make a huge effort to keep him and he languished in free agency long enough for his price tag to fall into a range where the Giants showed interest.
The only way I can put it here for now
JonC : 5/18/2016 10:45 am : link
is he apparently doesn't see eye to eye with some of those in charge.
Milton
JonC : 5/18/2016 10:46 am : link
correct.
Why the hell
Jay on the Island : 5/18/2016 10:48 am : link
would the Giants trade DRC now? He is the best CB on the team he is signed to a great contract and he is in his prime. So the Giants would be starting Apple who is raw and needs time to develop? The third CB which is a de-facto starter would be Wade or Deayon? What a terrible idea.

Well that's just too flucking bad. Let him save his $ and try to buy a team for himself someday.
if the Giants were so down on DRC
djm : 5/18/2016 10:53 am : link
they would have cut him already. Whatever he did wasn't bad enough to bring the ax down yet it's bad enough that the Giants won't re-sign him or will cut him NEXT year? What kind of middle ground horse shit is that?

I just don't get it. I think it's all bullshit. DRC shouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon.
'doesn't see eye to eye with some of those in charge'...
Torrag : 5/18/2016 10:55 am : link
...translation...you're paying me 5/$35M but Jenkins is worth 5/$62M?

Personalities come into play, as does approach, work ethic, agendas
JonC : 5/18/2016 10:55 am : link
The first is apparently a big reason why Prince is no longer here, as a recent example.

Yeah, if it was a Hardy or Ray Rice type of problem, cut his ass..Since it's not, work it out..I'm rather certain they will, if in fact there's some kind of disconnect in the first place, imo

Could be, but if Prince could stay on the flucking field, he'd most likely still be a Giant, imo
Holy crap
AP in Halfmoon : 5/18/2016 10:59 am : link
I hate this "pseudo psychology insider can't say for now BUT" crap. Now fans will take it as gospel he's a problem player who needs to go. What a crock of shit.
Does anyone have anything on DRC that isn't gossip?
Ten Ton Hammer : 5/18/2016 11:00 am : link
Some substance would be nice. Just because someone says there might be an issue off the field doesn't make it true. I don't see why it's fair to poke holes in a player's conduct without evidence
Look at the players who
AP in Halfmoon : 5/18/2016 11:01 am : link
had strong personalities and didn't see eye to eye with management. Do Strahan, Simms, Banks, LT, etc, etc ring a bell? I smell bullshit again
