hasn't really meant anything in many years. It used to be a much bigger milestone date with the salary cap, but teams have since adjusted that most of the former "June 1" cuts, usually happen in March now.
So no need to wait until June 1st....actually most teams don't to give player more time to find employment.
With that.....there are several possibilities for RT help.....if the Giants are interested.
I suspect.....they are giving Hart every opportunity to win it....before they go outside of current roster. Also, they picked up several non-discript players but ALL played for current OL coach......which also might be in play. This new OL coach seems to be THE major upgrade for the OL.....he has a golden touch.
said, designating someone a June 1 cut can be made at any time prior to June 1, so the date has lost some significance as an actual calendar date.
Second, most June 1 cuts are cap casualties and the Giants have 18+M in cap space.
So you wouldn't really expect anyone cut this year.
the only player I think even makes a little sense is Casillas, but again, without needing the cap room I'd keep him and let him fight for a roster spot with the other bodies at LB. Being a good cover LB is a rare skill set these days.
Clubs can designate two players as June 1st cuts prior to June 1st
Good to hear from you. Missed you in some earlier cap discussions. I think someone said you were oversees. Thanks for your insight. Does your comment mean that if teams want to cut more than two then they have to wait until after June 1 or two total cuts?

I second this. Always good to hear from you Optimus, and always appreciate your insight and information RE: the cap.
someone picks up the awesome RB, Andre Williams, that the Giants will foolishly cut to save, 500k? Or will they wait 3 years to find out he can't play and save almost 700k next year? Do it now.

I am indeed overseas. Gonna be back home for only a couple of weeks this summer though. Hope you're all well and are holdin' down the fort here at BBI.
If teams want to designate more than two players as post-June 1st cuts, then only the first two can be released at the start of free agency with an opportunity to find a gig while the free agency money is all out there. Any other subsequent players would have to be cut after June 1st in order for their remaining signing bonus money to spread out over two years, instead of one in order to lower the remaining dead money over two years instead of one.
NICE!!! Can you tell me his expected jersey number so I can be the first one to get his jersey!
